It would be great if the Pats could sign some pass catching weapons today (OBJ, Chark, Gesicki, Schultz) and a veteran boundary corner. Once they do that they should be near out of cap space and then it will be time to focus on the draft.

At the same time I think the Packers want to be done with this Aaron Rodgers nonsense.
I don't think they care. They just view him as not being on the team anymore - he's a Jet now - but they'll still hold his rights til they get the package they want. Especially after he went on video trashing them, they're even more incentivized to keep holding him.

Rodgers isn't going anywhere until after June 1...the Packers save $15 million in cap space by waiting until at least then to trade him. The Packers know the Jets want him desperately, the Jets know the Packers need to unload him to gain as much financial flexibility as possible. It will be interesting to see who blinks first.

The Packers have also historically been a team that doesn't make a ton of FA splash signings. Not sure if it's because of the public ownership or just a philosophical thing, but they tend to rely on the draft and mid tier signings to fill out their roster each offseason. So having Rodgers' contract on the books doesn't really keep them from following their usual offseason plan.

If I was the Packers I wouldn’t budge an inch. Options:

a) Jets pay what they want and nothing less
2) He can hold a clipboard for the year and try again next year
d) He can retire

Rodgers and the Jets have no leverage whatsoever. He can do his best to paint the packers in a bad light and put the blame on them, but any non Jet fan doesn’t care/falls for his crap. The dead money makes this situation very easy for the Pack.

The post June 1st designation, if I understand it correctly, is for cuts, not trades. I do not believe that there is any post June trade relief. If the Packers cut him, they don’t receive any compensation.

I would think it's the opposite. By saying he only wants to go to the Jets, he's basically telling the Packers he's not going to play for another team. If the Packers want a draft pick in this year's draft, then they are going to have to trade him by April.

He is saying he is playing for the Jets is because they are the only team willing to pay him and give up the compensation needed to trade for him. There hasn't even been another team to show more than a passing interest in trading for him. And the Jets are jumping through hoops to appease Rodgers by signing players he wants signed.

No, in the link I provided you can select a post June 1 trade designation and see that the Packers can get some cap relief by trading him after that date. If they trade him now, it's a $40 million cap hit

I would’ve paid $16M APY easily. Seems like a great signing for Cincy. But, yes, the question now is how do they afford Burrow, Chase AND Higgins this/next offseason?

They had132M in cap space prior to the Brown signing. Don't think it's an issue.
