NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION Official 2023 Free Agency Thread

Could we possibly afford two one year deals for Campbell and Wagner?

Bill still operating like Brady is still here.
Exactly! I’m not saying go out and get every significant player on day 1. But people here are stuck in that mindset like this team has Brady to overcome the overall lack of talent. Those days are long gone, todays team needs talent across the board, the team has plenty of cap, moves that close the gap need to be made, Bills hot seat will only get hotter if and when he finishes under .500 again and misses the playoffs once again.

I read that Elu changed his attitude and was good for Vegas in 2022.

Ask Carr what he thinks of LV OL..

If a team is serious about OL, Elu is a nice backup (of 4 positions). Thats his value.

If you patch up starting OL with backups all the rest means little.

KC has best QB, best also at moving, throwing outside pocket etc - still made Thuney highest paid G, FT Brown, drafted center high in a great/deep C class, now won battle for best RT available at 20M apy and still reportedly pushing for Brown or Tunsil - while having significantly less resources than NE. No wonder they are cruising.

The other SB team made similar investments in OL that made Hurts nobody wanted looking like top QB.

After Dante its been just one big OL graveyard here.. hard to believe so much incompetence under BB

As far as us or any team interested in Lamar Jackson can their own drs check him out before signing him to any offer sheets?

Not a good sign BB is serious about OL. If healthy hed be a good option for NE, i mentioned him as a target but would prefer aiming higher..
 It's not a good sign? He'd be a good option? Trying to figure out where you stand

I’m pretty sure everyone on the board wants them to sign top flight players. Is anyone arguing that this team doesn’t need an upgrade in talent?

I wish they signed Bates and Edmunds but it didn’t happen. I hope they sign Brown Jr., but that is probably unlikely. There is a big difference in expecting Bill to continue as he always has with mid tier free agents and what everyone wants.

Would LOVE to see Pats go after Austin Ekeler, who asked to be traded from San Diego. That guy is reliable exciting and a playmaker both running and passing.

When are the Pats going to make the first real splash move?
Re-signing Jones was great, and dumping Smith was important, but what position will they pay big $ for?
WR, OT, DB ?

Who would you have liked to see them sign? The guys we talked about went for massive contracts. Edmunds got $18m per.

The real question is, would you have wanted them to pay $18m a year for either of those 2 players?

Maybe they already have a deal(s) in place but they are waiting till FA starts in 2 days to announce. Idk.

Pats have massive cap space, next year around 160-170 million. Would have liked one of the top tackles available, teams overpay in free agency, if you aren’t willing to do so as well you end up with a lackluster roster in terms of talent.

Just so we’re clear, I wanted Edmunds but yeah that’s too much for a position NE doesn’t have a gaping hole at.

I know, I'm not against overpaying. But I'd say that breaking the all time NFL record for a guy like Edmunds is just beyond. If an All-Pro comes loose, pay him top dollar.

This is the price theses type of players command now.

Bill can't continue to go bargain basement shopping to save money while the rest of the AFC east loads up.
It's the price someone paid him. No one had ever paid anywhere near that before. He's the highest paid now. BUT he's not a top player. Not an All-Pro. Has not been selected to the Pro Bowl in the last 2 seasons. He's really like a young Jamie Collins. Would you have paid Jamie Collins more than any other linebacker in pro football?
