Neither Josh nor Jimmy will see the third year of that contract.

People can be down on Derek Carr all they want but he consistently plays a full season and he's proven more as an NFL QB than Garoppolo. So while perhaps we can debate who's a better QB, there's no debating that there's about a 90% chance Carr starts 17 games for the Saints next season whereas there's about a 20% chance Garoppolo starts 17 and probably only a 50% he starts 12 or more. If Garoppolo was the Raiders alternative plan all along then they should have stuck with Carr. The Saints will have a much better chance of winning their division than the Raiders.

Interested to see the money. If it's short term, they could still be in play for a QB at #7 (though how Jimmy would react to that happening AGAIN would be very interesting...)

IDK, Mark Davis is pretty loyal, pretty dumb, and pretty unwilling to eat contracts.

I think JG will show enough over the next couple of seasons to pay off.

The real problem is the Raiders D really sucks, and they don't have enough draft capital to rebuild it.

I'm going to assume the Chiefs are winning the West until someone proves to me otherwise. But if the Raiders can earn a split with LA and Denver to keep them out of the wild card spots, that helps the Patriots just as much.
