GB DAL Officials....

That guy was a rookie as a ref, but has been an NFL official
for about 12 years. So he is really not a rookie!!

than he has no excuse, he and his crew just sucks.

I just think it is an amazing coincidense that this same crew officiates the games that (could possibly) decide home field in the playoffs for both the AFC and NFC. Then they go on to call the most penalites in both games, more than any other game they've officiated.

They need a new system to decide who officiates what games.

The entire system needs to be blown up and started from scratch. Starting with Full Time year round refs. until they do that, everything else is useless.

Interesting stats. I just don't know why the NFL, the Commish whoever that has the power over things like this allowed this rookie squad to ref the two biggest regular season games and both in the same season and after that ridiculous Pats Colts game?!! What?! If the NFL can have flex scheduling, why can't we have flex officiating? It's not a good job if the refs become that noticable during a game.

Because the refs are decided before the season starts. No reffing teams are allowed to ref for a team 2 weeks in a row, and it's all computer calculated... like the schedules.

So, while it sucks, unless a buss hits the refs, there's nothing that can be done about it. And how would anyone know that the GBvsDAL and the NEvsIND games would be so "crucial" or "marquee" games when the schedule was made / refs assigned?!

They wouldn't which is why they need a new system for deciding these things.

I believe in the offseason a computer randomly draws the referee assignments for all 17 regular season weeks. There are 17 different crews, so we only get to see 16 of them and we never get one crew for more than one game.

!

They aren't supposed to but Bill Carollo ended up reffing two Bills game sin a row ( Buf-NE being the second) due to illness but that hadn't happened in about 30+ years....

To me, that looks like a great jump on the snap - not offsides.

Look at the orange line. Ware comes up, but not over the line, the instant the ball is snapped. He's reading cues off the head movement of the center - probably reading tendencies he saw on film. The ball is moving backwards as Ware's head is crossing the orange line. Looks like a great play to me.

Yea, he went off the Center's head movement, not the snap of the ball. It was pretty much perfect timing on him Part (when he actually crosses the line), but I could see how an official would call that jumping. So, to me it was more iffy than bad.

Some of the calls that were bad in that game (off the top of my head):
Witten getting away with offensive pass interference (pushing off). I'm one of those guys who thinks you should let them play to some extent, and I don't care about a little contact, but that call went against what I've seen from officials lately. They've called two offensive PI's on Randy Moss for pushing off in recent weeks, and he created much less contact than Witten during one of those instances. So, if you're going to call it on Randy, you've got to call it on Witten, especially since Witten actually pushed off and extended his arm to do so.

The defensive PI call on the Packers probably shouldn't have been made since they tangled legs, and the ball might have been slightly overthrown. I'd say that call was closer than Witten's none call for offensive PI though.

This crew again had at least three bad spots that I noticed during live action, and sometimes their spots are off by as much as two yards....that is completely unacceptable. They were almost going to spot the Cowboys back at something like the 43 when the ball was supposed to be on the 31? I'm glad the head official went back to his booth in order to get it right, but he never should have had to.

Al Harris was completely worked by that deficient crew.
First, TO was never going backward, he was going sideways, and Harris had his arm between TO's body and the ball from the start. When Harris ripped the ball out TO was still inbounds, and Harris secured control before he also went out of bounds. What makes this even more unreal is the fact that one official called it right, but allowed himself to be overruled by the other official, especially since he was in better position.

This was a great play on Harris' part by the way. Really, it brought back memories of Tedy Bruschi taking the ball away from Edgerrin James in that classic playoff beatdown of the Indy Colts.

I understand it's computerized, but I think it's pretty fair to say that the Pats/Colts game was widely known to be a pretty important game before the season even started based on the past few years...

It's cheaper to buy off one crew than multiple crews. Makes perfect sense to me.

Unfortunately for the NFL it only worked in one of the two games.

I didn't see this posted so here goes.

were the officials last night the same team that officiated the Pats Colts game? I thought the head ref was the same guy. If it was then that's two BIG games this crappy crew has officiated and if it is the same crew they almost blew the game for the Pats and might have blown it for the Packers with crap PI call in the 4th. does anyone know? At this rate they might be officiating the AFCC and the Superbowl!

As soon as I saw that bogus PI call, the first person I thought of was Ellis Hobbs and that crap in Indy. Something has to be done about these officials personally handing teams bogus touchdowns, especially calls like that during these big games (Indy/NE) and (GB/Dall), please hold the flag in your pocket and don't hand them 50 yards, let them play. Please do us all a favor Mike Perreira...............

Sure, and if you could prove that the NFL was doing that, it'd make sense to everyone else, too. Not sure why you bother being a fan if you think the game is rigged.

Uh, try googling Donaghy and NBA and maybe gambling and see what shows up before you randomly trash someone for posting what he did. The NFL is extremely vigilant in policing their refs to prevent just that sort of thing but.......

No no, the NBA issue was an individual ref, no question that can happen. Or even a conspiracy involving multiple refs. As long as the league deals with issues like that seriously, I believe the sport can maintain its integrity. The example above implied an institutional problem, where the NFL schedules certain refs to certain games in order to make it easier to fix games. I'm not saying it's impossible, but let's try getting a shred of evidence before we go throwing around accusations like that. And if it turns out to be true, it's time to find a new league to watch.

Actually, I don't think it's anything as blatant as a pure payoff.

But I do think "the league" favors certain teams to win certain matchups because it makes better entertainment. For example, Colts vs. Steelers two years ago -- Colts favored, because the league loves the Colts. Then the Colts lose, leaving Steelers vs. Seattle. Another no brainer for the league -- a Steelers victory is more compelling, sells more merchandise. In both these games, guess which way the calls seemed to go?

At some point, what should be a series of random bad calls becomes a pattern. What causes the pattern? The preferences of the league and the media. Why does it cause the pattern? Like I said, I doubt it's as blatant as a payoff but these preferences from the league and the media still get into the refs' heads. And naturally, the crews with the LEAST experience are likely to be the most affected.

The good news is that good teams can beat the dubious tendencies of the officials.
