insane line-up that has no weakness. Certainly Sweeney is going "All In" this year and if it doesnt pay off with a Cup, they we are screwed in future years. But hey, he cant screw up the draft he he doesnt have any picks...e'm I right? Good moves by the front office and this team is solid going forward. That's a given. There are 22+/- games left in the regular season and as historically great as the B's have been this year, the Canes are only 13 points of their pace. Faltering now and risking ceding eventual home ice to what I've felt all along would be their toughest potential playoff opponent is not a risk Boston wants to run. Keeping in mind that the cap doesn't apply to playoff roster construction the acquisitions of Hathaway and Bertuzzi would mean Hall and Foligno could spend the next 6 weeks getting whole and still be available for the playoffs. Imagine being able to roll a 3rd line made up of Hall-Coyle-Bertuzzi with a D that now has 3 legit 1 D-men behind it.
In that scenario the B's roster would be a preposterously nightmarish matchup problem for any opposing coach to contemplate:
Forward combos:
Marchand-Bergeron-DeBrusk
Zacha-Krejci-Pastrnak
Hall-Coyle-Bertuzzi
Lauko/Frederic-Nosek-Hathaway/Foligno
Dressing just 6 of:
Lindholm-McAvoy
Orlov-Carlo
Grzelcyk-Clifton
Forbort-Zboril
That's an insane lineup to try shutting down.

Pasta 8 yr/$11 per is an excellent deal for both sides. He said money was not a deciding factor and wanted to stay in Boston...this deal proves that. Good job locking him up!
I'm fine w/ the all-in approach - especially with cornerstones Pasta and McAvoy locked up till 2030.
With Bergie 37, Krej 37 next month and March 35 in May producing at a high-level.....Go for it!
Too young to remember the 70s Habs but those 80s Islanders and Oilers teams had great depth. Plus the early 90s Penguins we loaded up front.Insane is the word, cause that's what opposing coaches are going to go trying to offset the matchups. Granted, the lines I posted are predicated on Hall and Foligno both being back for the playoffs but DAMN...
I'm wracking my brain trying to recall a team that deep across the board. When you consider the D as well as the forwards, they're as deep (1-18) as any team I can think of in my lifetime with the possible exception of the mid 70's Canadiens. Which is saying a lot considering that team was put together without real FA and there was no cap to consider.
Cripes, teams in the Original 6 weren't this deep.
Let's pray they avoid any more injuries.

i would think if the win the cup, Bergie will retire. what a way to go outHell yeah, I'm great with it. The window might stay open another year past this one considering the high level of play and overall health and conditioning of those 3 but it will be rough sledding past that. If ever there was a time to be all in this is it.
Thank God for the cap, Jeremy Jacobs would be far too cheap to build this roster without it.
Edmonton was rush rush rush. Not a lot of D....and why not? I agree on Coffey. Defense was not a point of emphasis for him. Only true blueliners they had worth a damn were Lowe, Steve Smith and Huddy but they were good enough. They did tend to tighten up in the playoffs. The Oilers were stacked up front but their D was suspect, fine offensively but mediocre at best in their own end. Coffey was their best D man and he was more of a 4th forward than a defenseman. Same with the Pens but even worse on D. That's the thing when you're talking a team's depth from the 80's and 90's though, when you're so top heavy you could count on winning even if you gave up 4-5 goals who gave a **** about depth?
The Islanders were def stronger in their top 6 than Boston is now but past that? I'd say Boston has the edge in overall forwards 1-12. After Potvin & McEwen there was a good size drop off on that D, def edge to Boston there. OFC those Islanders had Billy Smith between the pipes, they probably didn't need much past Potvin and McEwen.
I think so too. Thing is it's not like hes Chara and just hanging on....hes still kicking ass. Kinda wish he'd keep going.i would think if the win the cup, Bergie will retire. what a wau to go out

the Bruins are relentless. They just keep coming and once they are on a roll, then forget it.After some years wandering the wilderness and drafting high the Sabres are finally putting together a decent core. They brought it hard in the 1st.
Bruins played their textbook home game. Opponent gives their all keeping up in the 1st, B's counter with solid team D and a couple of timely saves. 2nd period; B's kept rolling 4 lines, pushing the puck and took over the pace. 3rd period, typical home domination; after giving it everything for two periods the Sabres just didn't have enough left in the tank to compete and got sloppy. The B's made them pay for their mistakes and won going away
Only bad spot was Marchy left the game and didn't come back after getting boarded, fingers crossed on that. Unbelievably there was no penalty, smdh

Those Islander teams.....man. Persson was there for the 5 straight Cup appearances but I don't remember how good he was but when guys like fmr Bs coach Butch Goring and the Sutter boys are on your 3rd line......sheesh.
Morrow was a great piece on those teams.Kevin Lowe was their best defenseman. Coffey was their best puck mover to the get the offense started but he was a total liability. Their defense also got better as they added Steve Smith, Beukeboom and others as that dynasty moved along.
The Islander who had the best run was Ken Morrow. He was on the 1980 Olympic team and joined the Islanders after that was over to win 4 straight cups. That still blows my mind. I really liked those Islander teams because I hated the Flyers and Canadians for beating the Bruins. That 3rd line of Nystrom, Goring and Tonelli might be the best 3rd line of all time. They could score, hit, fight, PK, PP.....you name it.
