Bruins 2022-23

Really like this trade going into the Play-offs. Hathaway is a tough SOB, with skills. Orlov Play-off proven. 12 goals last year with a +25. Tough too.
This is a serious team with this Trade, 4 strong lines, and 3 pairs of good D-Men.
McAvoy -Orloff
Lindholm - Carlo
Forbert - Clifton
Now that's a D you can go to war with.
With help if needed if injury.

This was a serious team before the trade. I see this as more of a depth trade. It certainly gives Montgomery a heavier D when he wants it, which might come in handy against Carolina. Orlov (not Orloff) is a top 4 d-man as is Grzelcyk, their games however are very different. It will be interesting to see how how the D pairings shake out. Given how much Smith's game has abandoned him they weren't getting anything for him and the second rounder was undoubtedly the cost of getting rid of his contract. Hathaway isn't the improvement that might have been hoped for at wing, he's a 4th liner that can bring the thump though

A side note of something that may or may not prove of interest down the road, the B's also picked up the rights to Andrei Svetlakov

Ok .. I am not a big hockey fan. At all. But, I occasionally take a look at the standings.

Are the B's really this good? 13 pt lead, best record in the NHL, single digit losses. Damn!

The B's are legitimately damn good. They've been the class of the league all season, your occasions must be few and far between lol
Point wise no team has ever finished with what they're pacing for. It's not realistic to expect the points to continue piling up at the previous rate with the road schedule they have coming up. That said, this team has a top line that can play with anyone's. It rolls out a 2nd line that would be the top line on all but a couple of teams and a third line better than most 2nd lines in the league, they are incredibly strong on the puck as is the 4th line. That puts a lot of pressure on an opposing D. And the forwards aren't even the true strength of the team.

In Lindholm and McAvoy the B's have two number one D men in their absolute prime, the league's best D builds out from them. McAvoy is a legit Norris candidate every year. Lindhom and Grzelcyk are tied for the best +/- in the league. There isn't a dman in the league whose 5 on 5 goals for percentage is as high as Grzelcyk’s 73.44. Forbort leads the league in PK minutes per 60 as well as PPG allowed above expected. Carlo & Clifton are having career years. As if that wasn't enough, they've just added Dmitry Orlov who can play both sides.

The D is the reason the goaltending looks so good. Ullmark and Swayman have both played well but if we're being honest they aren't tested to the degree most NHL goalies are routinely. Other teams just aren't getting all that many quality opportunities against the B's elite team D.

Thanks for the details - guess you can't challenge a goalie if you can't get to the goalie, eh? Love the idea of a D that dominant. Add to that the ability to swap out a lineup and not loose much in the process is amazing - real depth is paid a lot of lip-service yet always proves to be a huge advantage (B's, various Pats squads, Celtics in the 80's). A lot of teams look for a bench that won't screw up - not many can build one that excels in their own right.

The depth on this team showed when DeBrusk, the right wing on the top line, went to LTIR for 6 weeks and the team didn't skip a beat until it then lost Nosek, the top PK minute forward on the team. That was a crap ton of quality minutes to be accounted for. and at that point they scuffled a bit until they found the right line/minute combos. That probably explains the trade, two legit match-up pieces that allow Montgomery to shuffle the roster as needed.

The B's are definitely all in this season.

I find the nature of the complaint difficult to understand. Sure I'd have preferred a better winger but that 1st this year is going to be close to if not at the bottom of the round. This is definitely the year to go all in. Outside of maybe the '71-'72 squad I can't recall a B's team this deep in my lifetime.

Wow, the trade has Zboril playing at right wing tonight and so far it has been an absolute disaster
They can't all be works of art but a W is a W

This was the same choke ass team going into play-offs, without this Trade. They would have faced a tough forechecking team, and forget how to Grind.
Total Regular season looking like they are dominant.
Then face the Blues, Islanders, or Carolina, Tampa.
Then walk out with tails between their legs.
Love Orloff, and Hathway, like my spelling better.

yes, this team is historically good. The trade they just made makes them even better if that is possible.

Swayman lets up some easy goals (IMO but what do i know, im not a goalie) and this was not his best game.

It's Cup or bust with these moves.

Orlov is a puck moving, solid defensemen with serious deep playoff experience ....plus he has a ring.

Hathaway adds physicality who also has 24 games of playoff experience.

Love it.

You're not wrong, the kid had an inexplicably bad night, seems like every so often that just happens with him. 3 of the goals he allowed were not what anyone would call particularly challenging shots, two of those were outright soft goals. The one that deflected off McAvoy's stick would have gone past Ken Dryden, no fault there.

Gotta love Jack Edwards on that call. LOL at that villain laugh at the end

Hearing Jack normally inspires me to turn the volume way down and longingly recall Fred Cusick but even I turned it up for that replay. That was exactly the type of over the top moment Jack was born for

Congratulations to King Linus for becoming the First Bruins Goaltender to score a goal... It's been a long time coming, and we've been victimized ourselves by that very same event, as Fred Cusick's legendary call describes:

youtube nhl ron hextall scores against bruins

Yet all the even-strength goals we could muster against a team that's in full Sell Mode is a lousy One... So let's trade MULTIPLE top-100 picks, including next year's FIRST ****ING ROUNDER, for a Left-shot (of which we have FIVE already) DEFENCEMAN who's a ****ING RENTAL!!!
****ing brilliant!

And I completely understand that #FireSweeney absolutely ****ing SUCKS at drafting anyway so why not throw away picks (and with them the post-Bergeron/Krejci/Marchand future) for players, even Rentals, but this was a Massive ****ing Over-Pay.

Meanwhile, our 3rd line goes wanting...again...so Monty's forced to use on their off-wing with Hall & Coyle either Freddy, our best 4th-line Centre,
or Nick Foligno, who at this stage of his career is best-slotted on the 4th line with Freddy, if they just...had...one...more...scoring Forward, preferably Right-handed.

Swayman's home/road splits are especially startling, and Not in a good way.

I was hoping that #FireSweeney would use those assets Thrown-Away for Orlov to acquire, besides a top-9-calibre RW, an experienced (including the POs preferably) 1B-2A Goalie so that we don't have to rely on Swayman when it Really Matters.

That's THIS year's first rounder, which will be at the bottom of the round. We are watching a once in a generation team my man. Personally I'm more than pleased Jacobs/Neely/Sweeney are going all in to get Bergie's name on the Cup again, he's earned it.

A couple of deep cleansing breaths might be in order.

This call and this game will never be forgotten. Legendary

The Panthers and Kraken games didn't help but as a backup he kept them in it. His #s are still respectable on the road.

Agree. Swayman is fine but not a #1.
