No hockey in virginia but I like the chirps

The first part of you post smacks of hysteria. What happened at Penn. St during the last years of Paterno's tenure there was horrible to the students that had to endure Sandusky's predatory behavior, and regrettable that Paterno's inaction tarnished his legacy forever. But Jees, Ken, what does this have to do with Bill OBrien. Given all the NCAA's penalties, lost scholarship, players leaving, recruits going elsewhere what BOB accomplished in his first year was miraculous (8-4) And what does what happened BEFORE he got there matter./

Yes, he saved Penn State’s program after officials, alumni and fans there made excuse after excuse for their way past his prime previous HC who’s success had made him above reproach and unanswerable for his recent poor performance for way too many.

Putting aside Sandusky, you had a HC so out of touch and deluded that he once ran over a cyclist on campus with his car and got out and started berating the cyclist for the incident. All the while the actual football program was in steep competitive decline. It’s just Joe Pa being Joe Pa as the excuses for his behavior and the program’s failures were perpetuated by his “fans”. It took this environment for a Sandusky to occur.

Irrational confidence and reverence for a person is very cult like. Tyrants and Cult leaders actively promote it to control followers, but it can organically happen around successful leaders. No one should be above reproach and unanswerable for their mistakes. It’s foolish and destructive in the end.
C'mon Ken, why the rant about Penn State. It was a horrible situation, BUT it had nothing to do with the job BOB did there. He signed a 2 year contract and fulfilled it and left the program better than he found it
My original post in this thread was a tongue in cheek statement about the transitory nature of the coaching profession and the uselessness of contracts in preventing the movement in response to the preposterous theory repeated on this board that even if Belichick really wanted O’Brien last off-season his contract and commitment to Alabama would have prevented it. That’s nonsense. Nick Saban is himself a serial contract breaker. Would Bill put his friendship with Saban above “the best interest of the team”?
Here's where your thinking goes beyond fuzzy. What does it matter what Saban has done with his contracts. BOB signed a 2 year commitment and he met it. It was BOB's commitment. It would have real easy for him to try and back out on it and come last year, especially for his family. Have you ever considered that it was BOB's decision to stay the course and honor his commitment?
Of course the purpose of that theory is to excuse away Belichick’s Patricia and Judge folly to which I say no excuses are necessary. Belichick would not be the first person to overrate the competence of an underling that he really likes personally.
While I still believe that Patricia/Judge were there as a stop gap solution until BOB was available. He hoped that it would have worked out better, but it failed and unfortunately failed miserably. No one would dispute the results. BUT BOB was the plan all along.
The Belichick excuse making and blame deflecting on this board is excessive and galling. It hurts the honest discussion we want to see and participate in about the present and future of our favorite football team.
Funny I don't believe I've heard BB "deflecting blame". In fact I've heard him say on several occasions that he is solely responsible for negative results on the field.
I like the Klemm hiring. It’s a good thing when former players go into coaching as they can relate to today’s players on a level that can be most successful.

I’m over last season and happy to have a coach with Bill O’Brien experience running the offense. We’re on to 2023.
I'm happy that you are "on to 2023" we all should be. I like the Klemm signing too. He's had a couple of years of NFL experience, and has been very successful in developing a very good OL in Oregon (which IIRC, averaged over 220 yds rushing yds this year. BUT my opinion and yours are relatively uninformed, so my happiness with this hire is because Dante gave the guy a thumbs up. He coached him, and he's watched him in the NFL and has watch film on his Oregon teams.

It will be interesting to see how BOB fills out the rest of his offensive staff as the off season progresses. there are more signings to come.

Did you copy my entire post by accident? Lol makes it look like you’re saying the exact same thing I did
Yeah, kind of. Wanted to reply, but didn't use reply so I ended up with nothing quoted AFTER I posted, so I retroactively copied the post I had intended to reply to.

If you're going to roll the dice, Id rather have Ryan Wendell who is already working at the OL coach in the Pros.
Thanks, I'll go with Scar's opinion.

“Roll the dice”. LOL.

Wendell has 4 years of experience as the Assistant OL coach for a Bills team that has lacked a reliable rushing attack, outside of their QB, during his tenure there and has has also been inconsistent, at best, in pass protection. Here is Klemm’s background:

There is no comparison. Klemm was the clearly the more experienced and qualified candidate and the Pats’ aggressive recruitment of him and generous salary offer he flies in the face of your “Roll of the dice”characterization of his hire.

Your contention that Klemm is somehow the less qualified and/or a risky choice to be the Pats OL coach because most of his (13 years of) experience as an OL has been at in college is predictably biased and baseless. While the offensive schemes may differ between college and the NFL and college OL coaches are much more involved in player recruitment (Klemm was credited with Oregon’s ability to secure a commitment from one of the top HS OL prospects and two high profile transfers this offseason ), the technique and fundamentals of good OL play are universal. The OL coach also plays a critical role in the mentality of the line and by all accounts Klemm is a hard-nosed, demanding coach who expects his line to be a tough, physical group in the same way that Scar did. I don’t have any concerns about his ability to command respect in the Patriots locker room, simply because his background has principally been at the college level.

Finally, the notion that Tomlin and the Steelers allowed him to leave for Oregon because he was unhappy with his performance as their OL coach smacks of the same agenda-driven speculation that has come to be commonplace here. Given that he served as their assistant OL coach for two years, the Steelers knew him well and thought highly enough of him to elevate him to a higher level of responsibility. He didn’t forget how to coach in 2021. The more likely scenario is that Tomlin was pissed that Klemm was negotiating with Oregon while the Steelers were still fighting for a playoff spot and said “F*ck it, if he doesn’t want to be here he can go now if he wants to.”…..making it a “mutual decision”. From Klemm’s perspective, he was given more responsibility and a bigger paycheck by Lanning, a young head coach with a defensive background with his first head coaching gig at one of the nation’s top college programs who wanted to surround himself with a high quality, experienced staff, especially on offensive side of the ball. Klemm had gained a reputation at one of the top NCAA OL coaches and OL recruiters and Oregon seemingly made him an offer that he couldn’t refuse (I doubt that he was making $900+K in Pittsburg). Why didn’t he wait until the Steelers season was over? Most likely because December and January are critical months for securing final commitments from the top HS prospects and transfer portal candidates.

Giving Mac more time to throw and to go through his progressions will be critical to his success in 2023, as it will be for every QB. Which college OL gave up the fewest sacks in 2022? That would be the Oregon Ducks, under the guidance of Adrian Klemm.

In the draft forum I had video footage trying to pump up drafting Oregon Ducks center Alex Forsyth that is truly impressive. I wonder if the Patriots of last year could even have done it.

Let me look for it…

All good, was being tongue-in-cheek. Sorry if it came off rude. It's easy to get the bracketing and such messed up.

Georgia vs. Oregon full game.
You judge, QB Nix went 0-4 in his career so, far in his career. against Georgia.
Oregon played in a much softer Conference too.
Kept an eye on TE Washington. for Georgia.

What do you expect him to say.

The Silly Season is in fool bloom.

My Buddy has a brother who is a diehard Houston Texans fan. I asked him if he thought that BOB was a good OC and QB Guru. He laughed for 5 minutes.
Wait, your buddy has a brother who thinks that BOB isn’t a good coach? Like, is he a good buddy for reals? Why would you withhold such critical information from us until today?

I like all that coaching experience.

I like that he played OL in college, and 5 years in the NFL.

I like that he played here in NE, was on 3 SB winning teams, knows what the fans-media-BB-weather are all like, and that he wanted to come back here.

I like that he was the recruiting coordinator at SMU, means that he's got communications skills and some salesman in him, can motivate these guys, and can probably hold his own with BOB and BB.

Scar is not known for pulling his punches.

Heh heh. He said Judge.

Just playing, welcome!

Klemm has over 10 years coaching offensive lines. I think it's the right choice.

He spent 8 years coaching college, 2 years coaching pros, played 42 games for the Pats with a 9-0 playoff record and three SB rings and Scar likes him. That can't be worse than what they had.

Is this satire? Worst post in this thread.

"Fool bloom" is a pretty clever play on words. No idea if it was intentional or misspelled "full".

Dante is not going to say a word to rock the boat. Of course he loves the hire. He would have said the same about Wendell.

Every offseason is like this. FA acquisitions will be studs in NE. Expect a draft grade AAA+. BOB was a trainwreck in Houston and people want to point the finger at Patricia and Judge for failing as HCs?

Triumph you just tire us out. Just take a deep breath and relax. Everyone here knows no matter what the patriots do you are going to crap on it. But even after all these years your shtick seems to be going a bit off the deep end this off season. Is everything ok at home? Sick cat? Losses at the bingo table? Water in your moms basement? Let it out big guy.
