Content Post Words on things I watched, read & heard II

This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.
We always make use of our time at things like this

This is super interesting. At the very top next to Belichick is Bill O’Brien, who has only been signed for a couple days, and Jerod Mayo, who as far as we know is still not under contract and is still “in negotiations for an extension”.

It’s exciting that the strength of the class is at CB & the pats are in position to grab one. They were the only team to have three pass rushers with 50+ pressures (judon, uche & wise) & barmore had 11 in his final two games. They could be even better if the D could hold up more in man coverage.

WR1 & CB1 are the two positions this offseason that can most improve the team. The pats D without two of their top 4 CBs did a decent job vs. burrow & allen but they picked apart zones frequently. The D can be one of the best in the NFL with a CB1 joining jack jones, marcus jones & mills IMO.
i would say OT is the position which can improve the team the most for our run and passing game. Mac needs the time to go through his reads as he isn't really fast with it right now. O-Line matters more than WR1 imo, just look at the lions WR and QB, their talent is much worse than ours at the skill positions WR and TE and i wouldn't call Jared Goff a top 8 QB but their o-line is incredible as well as offense coaches.

i would put CB and WR right behind LT/RT

There have been a million posts about Patricia and the offense but here is Karen Guregian, using the contacts that only a long-time and completely honest beat writer has.

One thing that we can now put to bed (that would rid us of a few thousand posts!) is the idea that the Pats put in Judge and Patricia because they knew that it was only going to be a one-season stop-gap while they waited for O'Brien. Karen makes it clear that they tried to install a whole new offense -- and that they completely failed.

No wonder Mac went backwards. The big question is: is his regression fixable? (And is BO'B the man to do it?)

They didn't try to install a whole new offense. I really wish people would stop saying this because it's not remotely accurate. Especially when they flat out say that they tried to expand on the outside runs that they normally.
Based on Guregian's article, they tried to add some more roll-out play actions. The problem was that the Offensive coaches didn't understand the Shanahan style well enough to take advantage of the system.

What was clear was that the offensive coaches weren't prepared. The fact some players (Bourne) who had experience in the system, would ask the proper questions and the coaches would look foolish because they'd have no answer. The coaches had no answers because they didn't have the experience in the thought process.

The biggest take-away that Judge didn't know how to stay in his lane and Do His Job. I've never heard of a position coach interfering with other coaches the way he did. I'm also shocked that we didn't hear about BB and he getting into it on more then one occasion prior to now.

If Judge is back with the team in ANY capacity, I think it will be a surprise.

I really hope that Cam Achord is replaced after the Shrine game. It's clear that the issues on Special Teams goes beyond the players.

Great post. I think CB1 is important, maybe #14, but I think OT improves the team the most.

CB and RB are probably the strongest and deepest classes. Closely followed by Rush and TE.

Then you have a really solid second tier of guys like - Rejzohn Wright, Garrett Williams, Clark Phillips and Deonte Banks. I'll bet one of those guys goes in RD1 bc the big 4 (Porter, Witherspoon, Smith and Gonzalez) should all go top 15-20. Personally I love all of them. All are very good in man and versatile.

We might be able to get lucky and land one on a small trade back. Maybe Smith in the early 20's but I could see him gone before then. Him and Witherspoon are so NFL ready imo when it comes to playing man, run support and confidence. Those two will be very very good. Porter and Gonzo are a little more matchup types youd put on certain guys to ruin their day. Lots of size, physicality and length. I've heard a lot of people comp Porter to Humphrey from Balty and i like that a lot. Hump is a great CB you can move around. Solid, reliable and tough in run support.

If we landed one of them. Traded up for Wright, probably OT2 for me. And grab someone like Josh Downs, Marvin Mims or Flowers in RD3 or Rakim Jarrett, Ronnie Bell in 4 or 5. Some like Flowers might be strictly slot but Mims has some versatility there to play outside. Remember we have a few picks this year.

Couple of bigger late round guys, possible udfa I'm interested in.
Andrei Iosivas, Elijah Higgins, AT Perry

Andrei Iosivas is super interesting. He set the indoor record for the 60m at 6.71. Big time speed and potential. Think I read he had a 40 inch vert as well. I love watching movements and mechanics. Some guys just move different. Very raw but again talking late-udfa. Same for Higgins. Bit of a project but someone that might be worth your time.

@Jim Beankie

So much is riding on Ty Thornton too. We really need him to make it happen.

Awesome stuff! Duuude... I was actually gonna randomly bring up Iosivas in the WR thread last week. Running a 10.8 (+.9) 100m in HS as part of a Decathlon and 6'10" HJ (same as Quentin), 24'9" LJ, and that 6.71 60m last year as part of a Hep really caught my eye. I did NOT see the 22.2mph, so that's super helpful (Edit - looks like he had 3 drops last season). I remember watching that TD (EDIT - it was part of the mixtape highlights and was chopped up and didn't have great camera angles) and thought he was movin' but because of the competition, I was like nah it's prob because everyone else is super slow. As part of the late Rnd bargain combo, would like to get him or TScott along with TTucker, although my guy last year was supposed to go Day 3, but he had other plans, so who knows.

C'mon Troy! I'm not "in Troy I trust" like I was before this past season, but I still have faith.

Yea anything above 22 is insane with pads on, on a field.

He's definitely involved and I'm hoping Flowers ends up here as well.

from college games without actually being in the programs. It makes it hard to accurately scout the DB's/receivers when they're so often out of frame. Having said that, Witherspoon is my personal favorite player in the draft. In every game he is all over the field and plays with psychotic aggression. Plays the game the way it should be played in addition to having the athletic tools to excel in a largely trait-based position. Reminds me of the corner version of Rodney Harrison. It's a no-brainer to take him at 14 if he is there but I would be fairly surprised if he made it out of the top-10.

There's a guy that sells it for cheap.
PM me if you're interested. Or anyone else.

These are excellent lists..

Boundary CBs with size... LBs with coverage ability... Beef Curtains at DT... DEs with size/athleticism... LEFT Tackles... and WRs who don't suck.

I like Flowers but people are hyping him as a first rounder now. I dunno. Thoughts?
