Inside the most dysfunctional Pats season under BB

I didn't want Mickey Lombardi as our OC anyway; but there's NFW that Bo Hardegree & Carmen Bricillo should've been allowed to leave, as they were just lateral moves... Hardegree should've remained the QBC, Brick the OLC, Judge Joey should've returned as STC Only, and Phatt Matt should've played the Ernie Adams role.

Bricillo's contract was up. The Pats couldn't have stopped him if they wanted. Furthermore, he sucked as the O-line coach.

I believe Bill when he said it was too hard to change coaches and philosophy mid season. When the season started I am sure he didn't expect it to turn out the way it did and mid way through he probably thought he had to stick with what they had . Kraft might have publicly made that statement about getting a true OC but Bill must have been on board himself and decided that is what was best for the team.
Bill has a huge ego and no way was he going to allow his legacy in New England end like this. We can only go up from here and I think we are on the right track . I am excited to see if Mac will progress the way we hoped he would in his sophomore year, if after year 3 under Bob he doesn't then we know for sure that he is not the QB of the future.

That doesn't make any sense. Zappe ran a ton of play action. Even when Mac came back he still didn't run any PA, at least not until the last few games. I dont buy this article, if they are saying that when we clearly saw the Pats running very successful PA with Zappe
I did wonder that..

Don't forget South Dakota State TE Tucker Kraft as a 3rd-round possibility...
Thanks Coach cap impressive looking player plays with a litte Gronk in him from TE position. His name alone should get him on the team...hope RK makes the pick. :)

So Joe Judge have damaging pictures of BB. Jake Becquette still creating a source income with those pictures.

I am pretty sure Mac Jones was last or among the last in the league in play action passes and clearly the last in true play action when he lined up under center and runs it.
Which is what I dont understand, Zappe was under center about 50% of the time and ran play action on about 30% of those plays

BB needs to retire then. A poll on PatsFans.com would have voted this sh*t down in August. I guess we're smarter than BB.

The media was all over how unconventional this was back in March. It doesn't take a genius to say "hey maybe hiring a DC and Special teams guy who never have called offense and have them learn on the fly how to call an NFL offense might not work"

Not good. His attitude is a problem and changing positions won't change that. I don't want to think about this.

That's the fear here. With Patricia it looks like pure ineptitude.

With Judge it looks like a combination of ineptitude and he was just an ***hole. Same as he was with the giants. I'm not sure you can get players to buy into that on special teams.

If Bill basically took him away halfway through the season it means he saw it too.

I still don't get the "cheap" angle. Josh was said to be the highest paid OC in the league after he blew off the Dolts, and quite high even before then. Krafty Bob was one of the first owners to go for a stand-alone practice facility. I've never heard the Pats being referred to as being "cheap" until the last year or so. I don't see why cheapness keeps being brought into it. It feels like an anti-Semetic dog whistle to me. MP and JG were being paid by their former teams, but NESN said they were being paid "commensurate" salaries by the Pats with the Giants/Lions paying the rest of the money the coaches were contractually entitled to. It seems in the absence of other evidence we should just say it was circumstantial, but it seems some feel it sexes up the story so they won't let it drop. The Herald isn't saying anything about the cheapness angle AFAIK.

I do think BB made a major miscalculation. I think he felt MP/JG would be "good enough" and that he himself would be able to jump in and get things back on track if they didn't go well. The Herald saying he was yelling a lot at Judge says to me it was more than a little bit of course correcting going on. It seems that whatever he thought he'd get from JG he simply didn't get. That's not letting MP off the hook, but it's interesting the article pointed out BB's anger was directed at JG and didn't say anything about MP.

The "cheap" angle is not about Kraft. There's been reports that Bill has a clause in his contract that if his staff is under a certain pay level, he receives a bonus. The intent is to use Bill's cache to hire "qualified" people like MP and Judge for less than market value because other teams are paying them.

Josh only stayed after Kraft stepped in, and sweetened his deal. This would make sense that Josh was paid more handsomely after Kraft brokered the extra $$ off BB incentive book.

It's just a theory, but I see nothing anti-Semitic about this arrangement. It sounds like an ego challenge Bill might have wanted in his contract, and Kraft obliged.

Agree. Patricia failed but maybe he wasn't a douche. I think its ok if he is in charge of Research / Analytics but the players hate Judge...keeping him around is a bad idea.

Yeah. It's the same as what happened with the giants. It was pretty telling when McCourty praised daboll and said they are run much better and having more fun than when they had Judge. It was clearly a shot at how he was a know it all d****.

It's bad to be inept. It's worse to be inept and a know it all.

The extra money only helped JMD save face after he realized that he didn't want to work for Irsay.

I don't think the Brady divorce was about BB's ego either. I was glad that he moved on from an expensive 42 year old QB, especially considering the talent across the roster. Executives are paid to make those calls, it was a risk assessment. I was glad TB got another one, but he wouldn't have won anything here the past 3 years if we were paying him $25m.

So the best risk mitigations they could come up with were Cam Newton and Matt P/ Joe Judge. Doesn't seem like those executives were earning their pay.

I think he's the kind of coach where BB can direct him to accomplish something with a unit and he'll get it done without a lot of supervision, and there's value in that. He's not the type who can share an assignment with another coach like he was asked to do this year. ST's coach is perfect for him.

Not shocked that Joe Judge helped to screw things up and was on the outs. Just look at his time in NY, which was worse than reported.
What about BOB in Houston?

JJ Watt got BOB fired.
