If Mac and BB have irreconcilable differences, what is Mac’s trade value?

Reread my OP and tell me where I said a “pretty good chance” he’s traded.

This is a played out scenario, nothing more. And a question on what his compensation would actually amount towards.

There’s clearly a very strong chance he’s back. But given the disaster this season was offensively, there’s no certainty on anything after a season like this. Obviously a good amount of that wasn’t Mac’s fault.
I'm not talking about your OP. I'm talking about where you said there was a rift because of a press conference. Reread your second post.

Did I say the rift meant he was for sure gone? I said it definitely could indicate there is an issue there. That does not mean he’s gone.

How do you watch that entire season unfold and assume everything is perfectly fine there without question?

Archstanton hates threads don't mind him
It’s the people that find topics they don’t like and shut down any hypotheticals by trying to put words into your mouth that you never stated. They make the place toxic lol

Hopefully Bill has the character and honesty to admit that nearly all of Mac's problems this year are attributable to Bill's failures this year in managing the team.
Does ANYONE believe that this will happen?

To clarify, this is not me saying let’s move on from Mac. This is just playing out the scenario that both sides sour in the relationship and the team decides on a fresh start.

What would we get in return? If I had to guess, a 2023 second plus another conditional pick in 24 based on playing time/performance would make sense.

Best fit would seem to be Tampa. Tampa will not be in a position to draft a premium QB, and are in a cap position where they will likely need a cheaper option.

Mac gives them that for the next couple of seasons, and they can give him the 5th year if he plays well for them next year.

Mac to Tampa for a 2023 2nd and a 2024 3rd that turns into a 2nd if he meets performance incentives? Just spitballing what a trade would look like.
a TB second plus a conditional 2024 pick (4th or 3rd) seems right.

You said there was a rift because of a press conference. That's not putting words in your mouth.

I think even Josh Rosen fetched a third ... So Mac should get a 2nd + chump change .

But why would you do that ??? You have an opportunity to uncover franchise QB in next 2 years and opportunity cost is so low. It would be maddening to see Mac traded . Probability 0%.

Darnold got a 2, 4, and a 6 with less years on the contract, a longer disappointing track record, and a higher 5th year option(if it wasn’t already declined at the time they traded him) I would think, at the least, you’d be doing better than that.

Maybe a 4th for Mac. Bill needs to concentrate on getting better coaches and skill players to surround whoever plays QB.

The reason why I don't think Mac would get much back in a hypothetical trade is because I'd think other teams would look at this and think BB of all people must have a good reason to punt him. It would also be a sell-low.

Unless he's part of a blockbuster deal to bring in a star QB I can't see any value the Patriots get back for him that would make a trade worthwhile.

Bill is smart. I guess I have faith that intelligent people figure stuff out in the end, but I take your point: my view might well be a a tad too optimistic.

Other teams would need to judge why BB considers Mac so baaad that he is not even useful as a backup to an unnamed new QB.

I think that real value could only come as a part of a trade that lands the patriots a QB.

Depends if the Titians or Raiders don’t land Brady.
I honestly believe it would be between those two teams.

Not sure why Mac wouldn't cost a 2nd in this hypothetical. Other QBs coming off bad years with bloated contracts have been dealt for a 2nd or a 3rd. Mac has had one solid year and one year where he wasn't as good but I wouldn't say it was downright awful and everyone kinda knows the coaching was a big part of it. He has 2 cheap years left and a 5th year option that's still very affordable. I'm sure many teams would've taken him in the 1st if the Pats didn't at 15 just two years ago. Why not a 2nd? Garoppolo was worth a 2nd when he was drafted in the 2nd, he'd only played in like 2 games and only had half a year left on his contract.

A 3rd is probably too rich.

Jimmy cost a 2nd round pick and he had nothing but upside.
I think someone would throw a 3rd. Some teams, like the LAR almost despise pucks and love trading them away.

3rd feels about right, possibly with a condition to upgrade it to a 2nd based on 2023 performance.

A 1 for Mac and the Raiders 3, which the Pats have.

Only a third rounder

I'm not talking about your OP. I'm talking about where you said there was a rift because of a press conference. Reread your second post.
I like the question. Best case is a second rounder straight trade. Take it and run. He's shown poor body language, he's a whiner and if he indeed requested a trade ~ he's a quiter.

I think anyone who thinks that Mac and Bill's relationship is great is burying their head in the sand. Is it as bad as some people in the media may want to portray? Maybe not but reading between the lines there seems to be a little bit of an issue. From Bill being somewhat noncommittal about starting Mac again when Zappe was filling in, to Mac swearing at the coaching staff on TV, to Bill's lukewarm endorsement of Mac as the future at the end of season press conference.

There is some friction there and I don't blame Mac for being pissed that Bill is potentially derailing his career and I don't blame Bill for being 50 some odd years into his coaching career and having to deal with how a second year QB feels. Either way it wouldn't shock me if things went sideways and one of the two is gone after the 2023 season. This year I think as long as Bill brings in a real OC the fences can be mended enough for at least the 2023 season.
