That whole run was astounding. I may actually have it on VHS tapes packed away. If I do it's probably as grainy as that video if it's at all viewable.
Playoff wins against the Jets, Raiders and Miami all on the road. A Matt Millen and Pat Sullivan brawl, multiple TDs scored by our kickoff team. Too bad that it had to end in a SB vs the best defense of all time, but it did.

There was a time when we might have looked at that as the good old days but 15 years later that all changed. The Pats became a dynasty instead.

This is still my favorite Patriot's game of all time. Broke the streak, capped off a great season, shut down an awesome offense after two emotional road playoff games - all to get to their first Super Bowl.

Yeah, the next game was disappointing - especially when it started so well with the fumble recovery and quick score. Sucks, but it was still one heck of a ride.

That whole run was astounding.

Yep, the exhilaratingly astounding 9-2 stretch run, the astounding revenge for the OT loss against the Jete, the astounding post game end zone scene in Oakland, the astoundingly astounding dispatch of the Fish in Miami... and the gut punchingly astounding lop sided score in the Super Bowl.

It seems almost seems surreal now that our little team that couldn't has played in more Super Bowls than anyone else to look back at how amazed and thrilled we were to see them get there back then.

I was able to take a week's leave, so I flew up to Boston a few days before the SB... One of the cool things to see before the actual game was on the first floor of the Jordan Marsh downtown, where among all the Pats gear for sale were TVs showing a loop of all 3 PO games... Cool...

Then the game happened... Flew back to Beaufort the day after the parade would've been scheduled... Oh well... I still Loved the '80s!

That game was so awesome.

Total smash-mouth football. We ran it right down their throats and they had no answers.

Muddy and drizzling.

Marino throwing picks

MIA fumbling the ball all over the place

Shula throwing fits.

NEP football porn at its finest.

You discover a genie in a bottle and are allowed three football wishes.

First wish, Assante catches the gimme pick to complete the perfect season.
Second wish, Bill doesn't bench Butler and let the secondary get destroyed by Nick the Prick.
Third wish, I can unhear that theme song. Holy crap is that bad.

The other thing about winning those three games against those three teams was that at the time they were by far the three most hated. Oakland you had Ben Drief and Jack Tatum. Miami, Shula was always such a douche. Stuff that up your snow plow and smoke it Don. Finally the Jets, who would become more hated in time which I would have asked how at the time given every NY team is just hated by default.

The three game span for pure hated oppoent wins which can probably equal this is 2004 beating the Colts, Steelers and Eagles and I'm not sure that even reaches that level.

Yep... If I were asked before the '85 season began: What 3 teams would you prefer to beat for the AFCC, no question in my mind those teams would be the Jest, Faidahs & LOLphins. Don't think I would've been alone there either.

My oldest brother, who was a freshman at NU at the time, was arrested for jumping on top of a Lincoln in the celebration directly after the game in Boston. He eventually graduated 7 years later.

Good thing he was born in the late 60s and tuition was only $10k a year. NU is almost $80k now.

As we were walking out of the stadium after beating Boomer and the Bengals, I shouted, "Bring on the Jets!!!!!"

The team had to carry what was in fact a highly inferior mediocre quarterback by running the ball - Craig James gained over 100 yards in all three games - and winning turnovers something like 15-4.

Berry crashed into his ceiling the morning after. Starting Eason and abandoning the run in his game plan was a total white flag concession, and everybody knew it, we Pats fans could only hope for Tony to break his ankle getting off the team bus at the Superdome or something. Grogan, in addition to managing games and winning, called his own plays. We would have had a huge advantage at quarterback.
