Tom Landry got too old for the game and the Boys flamed out. Shula fared better but declined too.

Bill put the talent on the field. He buys the groceries.

The Pats need better position coaching. The talent level has improved after several years of mediocre drafts. Bill adapted there and he needs to adapt as a coach. If he’s going to do less he needs better and more position coaches with both the ability to coach/teach and position knowledge. No more Matt Patricia/Joe Judge nonsense. It was embarrassingly stupid.

If I’m Bob Kraft my first question is why have all of the Patriots strengths become weaknesses: special teams, linebacker, halftime adjustments, position coaching, penalties and a bunch of other areas. If I don’t get a satisfactory answer, then I move on if I have a guy I really, really think is the guy. This is the Krafts’ product and it has become very average. They don’t seem to me to be people who do average.
This.

All of it.

Can’t separate BB the HC (who is absolutely still good enough) from BB the GM/personnel manager (who badly botched both the coaching staff and that expensive FA class of colossal busts) .

If he stays and agrees to give up some power, love to have him.

If he insists on running back anything close to the current staff snd wants full control over Free Agency I bet they move on.

I like Goodwin here. But I’ll take evens if I have to. Haha
Godwin seems like the more likely trade candidate. Evans only saves them $2M in cap space if he's traded and $21M dead cap space, whereas Godwin would save them almost $9M in cap space and $15M dead cap.

I thought Mac had a good game, toward the end he tried to force too many things. Is he in the same category as Allen, no. Every time I watch Allen, I am more impressed. Just a great talent, a top 2-3 qb...you can debate Mahomes, Allen or Burrow, but I am really impressed with Josh Allen.

Josh worked with the QB guru after his 1st year. That was his pivotal point in becoming what he is now.
Can Mac do the same?

Coaching has been a problem for years now and it unfortunately became endogenous within the staff.

You can't be hiring your son's buddies and ex-protegees to keep up with a style of coaching without hurting quality. You need to evolve rapidily and, more importantly, hire good talent from wherever they are available.

Ive done this research, and if i remember correctly, about 2/3rds of the pats coaching staff have no degree of sucess anywhere, but being associated with BB at some point. And the other guys were mostly all recruited from the fringes of College ball

Why BB passes the opportunity of being a beacon of great minds, who would love to play for what has been regarded as the Goat of coaching, is a mistery to me. Also remember, nowadays, good Coordinators leave quickly, recruiting is more important than ever

Probably gonna be extremely costly. Coming off back to back 1k seasons and averaging 100 catches the last 2 years.

Trade for Hopkins.

How would you grade the last big free agent spend?

Judon? great
Mills? great
Henry? good
God? good, had a great year this year, not great last. year
Trent -great 1st year, not great this year. in fact bad
Jonnu- real bad
Aghlor- bad
Bourne- Not great, has shown flashes, but I think he'll be here next year and we got him for the cheap.

Overall, other than Jonnu and Agholor, there have been a lot of good signings.

Mac showed something today he hasn't shown all season. Massive changes are necessary all around.

He's shown me all I need to see. His arm is just not franchise quarterback level. The fact that BB drafted him....it's almost like McD picking Tebow in Denver.

What a joke. We need an offensive coach. BB was great when the NFL was more physical, defensively intimidating league but not in this league right now the way it is today.

Dang I was hoping for a Pats/Bucs SB..

I didn’t like that FatFace was trying to pad his stats at the end..

Oh well, go Brady, Celtics, B’s..

I don't think there's much mystery here. The offensive and special team coaching needs a 100% overhaul. We should find one or two O-linemen (draft). Another speedy LB would be nice. An experienced #1 CB would be nice (trade/free agent). The receivers MIGHT be good enough. We cannot know until the offense is competently coached. Bill must be pushed further in the direction of a collaborative draft process, Because the coaching on offense was so dismally bad, we don't know any more about Mac now than we did at the start of the season. Next year will tell the tale. To me, this is a team on the rebuild. That rebuild is on schedule, notwithstanding Bill's utter foolishness re coaching this year.

Mac was better today than early season, making a number of good throws. The first int was the one that occurred when the game was in the balance. The others were desperation throws where a miracle was needed due to time remaining. Watching all the other teams big plays are made by the receiver taking the ball away or separating from the DB. Agholor did nothing to compete for the ball or prevent the int.
But that's the next step for Mac, right? Make "that" play to when it's all on the line.

Josh has a cannon whereas Mac has a noodle arm.

Yes arm talent matters so no guru is going to fix this.

Trade for Hopkins.
Hopkins is the first guy I think of, but since Bill O'Brien seems like a likely OC candidate for next year, that probably kills any chance of a Hopkins trade.

It was funny when Romo talked about one of the interceptions taking forever to land because it reminded me of all of Mac's throws. He's limited in what he can do because the ball takes so much damn time to get to the receiver.

Yeah I wonder what the comp would need to be. Salary is not too bad but only for 2 years.

Clearly Mac has to be involved in some of those plays to make the next tier. He needs receivers. As Sophie says "Mackie can't throw the ball and catch it'.
