Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Dolphins

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

I was just going to say how refreshing it is to notice usual suspects from the Mac Jones Haters *********** Club being conspicuously absent after a much-needed win. Then THIS crap surfaces from BigglesWorthless and the appropriately named Hades. Some timely advice for each of you negative Nancies: go soak your head. And remember to sanitize the toilet bowl when finished.
I'm glad they won, as is any other fan of the team, I hope to see the offense play better next week. But I'm not so much of a homer to convince myself we have seen anything different from Mac than we have any other game.

7 pts beginning of the game. 7 at the end. Middle of the game? It really comes down to scoring points from the offense. That's the only see stat that matters. You can't take a sack when you're in fg range

I suppose you can tell the difference between "taking a sack" and GETTING sacked. Our second-year QB who is still learning the NFL game while having one hand tied behind his back by a chump OC just delivered well enough with no turnovers. So sorry the WIN wasn't good enough for you. Just give it a rest.

Well, thank goodness you at least clarified being a fan of this team. Team ... a wonderful concept, don't you think? This team called the Patriots had a TEAM WIN today. So glad they're not called the NotGoodEnoughForMeMacs.

@MrBigglesWorth -- laugh it up, clown.

Too late for what? Mac is progressing finally. He is throwing to all three levels and moving OK in the pocket. Mac is more comfortable and not getting lost in his head. Sure there is a lot of growth needed but at least it is moving forward. Hopefully it will stay that way. We will see.

no use arguing common sense points. The anti Mac club has made up their minds on him and will go to ridiculous lengths to make everything negative. 2tds, no turnovers some nice passes..200 yards. Not sure how that "sucks"

It's downright bizarre. At lease some of the higher-profile Mac haters muted their tone or avoided this thread altogether.

Bentley "roughing the passer" was a bad call:

Patriots linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley was flagged for roughing the passer, when there is no element of this play that would make this a foul. The flag was thrown by first-year umpire Duane Heydt -- the referee for the college National Championship game some 354 days ago. Umpires have been tasked in recent seasons to take a quick glance at the contact on the quarterback in case the referee is not in a position to get a clear view of illegal actions. In this case, with the contact in the open field, this should have been sorted out with referee Brad Allen and the flag picked up. The attack is coming toward Allen, so he won't see something on the other side of the quarterback's body.

Bentley made a textbook effort to prevent coming down on Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson. He does leave his feet, which is an indicator of launching, but absent contact with the helmet or other forcible contact, we can scratch this off the list. Bentley makes contact within one step of the pass being released, so he's within the envelope of legal contact.

The problem is, a miscall such as this gets thrown into the roughing-the-passer bucket and creates a false standard for fans. It becomes part of the if-that-then-this argument that makes for a difficult acceptance of the rule.

Here's another sack where there was no hot read. 4th & 4 at MIA 29
(2:28 - 4th) (Shotgun) M.Jones sacked at MIA 39 for -10 yards (Z.Sieler).
We were up 2 scores. There's absolutely no way you want him throwing the ball up there under pressure. It's 4th down also so he's not giving up a field goal.

Beat buffalo next week against Josh Allen and you'll sway me. So far the majority of their victories if not all are against backup qbs.

What's that got to do with Mac? You're feeling good because they won but the reality is he led the offense to 17 pts. Midway through the 3rd they had 10 pts. You're not gonna go far averaging 20 pts a game in this league. The rules are slanted towards the offense. This isn't the 1990 giants.

I couldn't care less to sway you. And I do not feel good, Mac still has too far to go. You completely misread a simple recognition that Mac was better today.

J Jones may be done for the year now too. That looked like a pretty nasty wrist injury.

I thought it was more of a stinger to his left shoulder. The way his arm hung there afterwards. Initially, I thought he'd dislocated the shoulder.. but when I saw him moving it, I knew it wasn't that or a broken clavicle.

It's not killing me, It's just hard to be excited about it. I mean you guys aren't actually impressed when you watch this team, are you?
Why do I have the be impressed to be excited the team won. Are they perfect far from it but there is no reason to be meh after a win. A lot of "fans" are more excited for a a high draft pick like 15 vs 22 is a giant difference in talent

Will Jones be okay next week? We're going to need him and M.Jones & Mills back, and Parker & Smith to have any chance in the world.
This is likely the last game for Slater & DMac - some miracle in Buffalo would be an amazing way to go out. Even if we get killed in the 1st round of the playoffs.

Just remember that people were saying that the Pats would lose this game because the Fins had Waddle, Hill, and Co for the offense and that Bridgewater was a competent QB. Look what happened. Somehow, the Front 6 stepped up to get enough pressure on Bridgewater to make him largely ineffective and capitalized on his errors to bring the team storming back with 16 unanswered points.

With Agholor surely gone, and perhaps Bourne. Along with Meyers a UFA (which I think we'll re-sign)
Which of these top FA's would you want to sign?
Juju Smith-Schuster
DJ Chark
Allen Lazard
Why would Bourne be gone?
Why do they need to sign another WR if only Agholor is gone?
In all honesty, Smith-Schuster is a signing only if Meyers is gone. Chark and Lazard would be redundancies and not an improvement on what the Pats have.
Lastly, Why the hell are you talking about this in a Post Game thread? What does it have to do with this game or next weeks game? There are threads already talking about this.. Go post there. Or is that too much to ask of you?

For me it is not the stats. I care about how Mac looks. His temperament. His footwork. Mac is smart and accurate - we know that. Can he put it together? Today I think he looked like he could after a good second half against the Bengals. Fingers crossed.

Thornton looked much better too. They are getting it together in bits, can they do it more consistently?

And god forbid the team lets mac handle **** and not call a time out on the goal line as he has the team in the right play and they score, oh wait time out from the patriots bench. Lets give the defense a second chance.

Kick a field goal and make it a two TD game? nah lets do a weird screen pass that gets blown from the start, and lose ten yards

It was Belichick who called the TO in that spot. Clearly he thought he needed to call the TO there. I saw Miami stacked up and Mac about to hand off again with a dive up the middle right into the teeth of the defense. What did YOU see that makes you think that Mac had the right play called?

I do agree with you about the FG. Folk had just hit one from 49 right down the center in that direction. It would have been from 46. At worst, a miss puts the ball on the Miami 36 yard line instead of the Miami 39 yard line and CHARGED over having sacked Mac.

Would take both on as coaches here immediately following retirement
I would definitely have Slater as an Asst. Special teams Coach and Devin as an Asst. Secondary coach. IF that is what they wanted.

Someone mentioned Cody Davis on Special Teams. I don't think people realize that Davis is already 33 something.

Schooler and DeMarcus Mitchell are the two guys to watch on STs going forward. Possibly Kristian Wilkerson if he can make the team next year.

This is going to be an interesting offseason. I wonder if BB will resign if Mr. Kraft forces his hand in regards to offensive coaching changes?

Might I suggest you research the following two names:
Corwin Brown
Dave Guglielmo.

You're welcome.

Not that we won't miss DMac, but safety may be the deepest position on the team.

It's not as deep as you think.
Jabril Peppers is a UFA at the end of the season as well as DMac. While Peppers is saying the right things, it's questionable whether he is re-signed.

Myles Bryant is an ERFA. I hope the Patriots DON'T tender him, though I expect him back. It's sad that someone like Wade or Bledsoe can't beat him out for playing time.

The thought has crossed my mind too. ST were elite under his control.

Legitimate question for y'all though:
When was the last time BB promoted someone over an existing coordinator, essentially firing/ demoting the incumbent?

There was some questions about Weis and Crennel and whether they were "fired".
Then you had Pepper Johnson being passed over for Pees and Patricia after Mangini left.

I know for a fact that Dave Guglielmo was fired. As was Corwin Brown.
