Mac Jones' Last Five Games - 2022 vs 2021

Whatever, he also threw a TD pass and fortunately, they won.
Agholor ripped a 50/50 ball away from the defender. Mossed him.

The Ravens game, he actually played relatively well in that one too. I mean, they were up 20-14 before but the turnovers killed them.
You know there's not much to pick from when you're calling a 0 TD, 3 INT game good.

I can just hear the excuses next season:

1. This is his 3rd year but last season shouldn't count because Patricia so it's really his second.
2. This is his 3rd different OC (if it happens and I'm not convinced) we need to give him another year to find his footing.
3. He was a 1st rounder that went to the pro bowl and got 2 votes for OROY. He was also excellent in college. He has to work out. Right? Let's give him another year.

Wow! Took the words right out of my mouth.

Same thing Parker should have done the week before. Play was almost identical.

Actually made some good throws in that game, and Curran said the same thing. Had he not turned it over, the perception would have been different. But he did, and the turnovers just killed them.

I am a homer and love it when someone else's homer post makes me cringe. "If that had not happened, Mac would have been great" (all the while his QB rating was less than 50). Haha. Great post. Keep it up. Love it.

The genius is admitting the mistake and moving on. I think that gets corrected this offseason.
I'm not convinced. Bill's pretty stubborn. Might take strong arming from Kraft, which won't be received well.

Plus, although highly unlikely, imagine if the offense actually pulls off a couple of big wins en route to the postseason. Then what?

Your position is that Mac's (5-7) regression is a direct correlation to Patricia's coaching. However, we witnessed Zappe (2-1) under the same coaching play pretty damn good (>100 rating). In fact, we've seen Mac have some pretty good play against MIN (119.8) and in the 2nd half of the CIN game (105.6). Was that performance in spite of Patricia's play calling?

That tells me that the offensive coaching / schemes can work. There's got to be a reason why we haven't been playing consistently under the same coaching. It has to be the players. Not just Mac. All of them. Receivers running wrong routes, dropping passes. RBs fumbling balls. OL getting called for penalties or allowing pressure. QB not making good decisions, holding the ball too long, taking sacks, missing open receivers, etc.

As far as this second year QB nonsense, he's no longer a rookie. He's a 1st Round veteran QB. He had zero competition in TC. He took 100% of the snaps with 1st team. He was in on all the meetings, discussed concepts and schemes. He was part of all of it. They didn't keep this all in a black box and surprised him with it on opening day. He was also the most NFL ready QB coming out of college, not some product of a Div III team out of Bemidji State. He's wicked smart, w/ 4.0 in 2 degrees.

I've posted stats of how much QBs improved in their 2nd season that were not NFL ready or that had new (poor) coaching and schemes. They both improved despite these challenges.

Does Bill, Patricia, Judge, et al deserve blame for how poor these players are going about executing their assignments? Absolutely. But that in and of itself doesn't excuse the players for playing poorly.

I can say the exact same thing about the Bucs who have the GOAT at QB. They're playing like sh*t just like our players are playing like sh*t.
I'm more focused on the first 3 games than anything. Fresh out of TC. Spent offseason working out with his homies and House. Lost body fat. No drama or competition like w/ Cam. He was the sh*t. The numero Uno.

The game plan and schemes in those 3 games were totally different then they are now. Mac was top of the league in air yards. They had a plan. He was part of it. He choked. You can say he's young, trying to find his footing and the rest if that. I say he's an NFL QB making $15.6M fully guaranteed, you better perform. It's that simple for me really. He's no longer a rookie, he's a veteran. You need to perform like one.

So let's get this straight, just to be sure: you dislike Mac Jones and believe he should not be QB of the NEP. Is that correct? Asking for a friend.

LOL, watched it back a few nights ago, and it wasn't as horrible as I remember. Had several surprisingly good throws in that game, like this one:

(they're in the gallery under "film room"), but the mistakes were costly. They were in the game for a lot of it and it was thanks to him, but the turnovers were brutal. Ruined an otherwise promising outing.

The writing is on the wall ... horse has left the barn ... water under the bridge ... foregone conclusion ... fait accompli. Patricia returning as OC in 2023 would generate a full-scale revolt by season ticket holders (including myself), sponsors and advertisers. And if you really believe this offense could suddenly spring to life for a couple big wins en route to the postseason, please PM me for details on the bridge I'm selling.

I'm a season ticket holder too, we don't make team decisions, and then really, what's our recourse? Mass boycott?

If Patricia is such a dead man walking then why hasn't Belichick made a move already? Teams make in-season moves. BB is not replacing Patricia due to disapproval or pressure from the fans and media. He'll make the move because he thinks it's in the best interest of the team. There's something still in balance for the team this season, so if BB has already determined there needs to be an OC/play-caller change, then he's being negligent in having not made a move already.

And no, I don't think Mac is out dueling Allen @BUF. I said 'what if.' If BB is really committed to his Patricia/Judge plan then for sure a strong finish by the offense will reinforce his commitment. And he'll use it as leverage to keep his guys.

I think Zappe might be a factor in camp next summer if Mac finishes these next two games poorly. But barring an injury, I don't think we'll see him these next two weeks.

If they lose tomorrow, is not playing Zappe next week in the best interest of the team? I don't think it is. You know what you have in Mac at this point, a very average QB.

If the Bills are playing for the 1 seed and you're out, start Zappe and see how he can do against a very good team with something to play for. Otherwise, Bill's decision is based on what's best for him.

If Bill doesn't bring in a good FA QB that can contend for the starters role and instead just roll's out the current 3 stooges, he's dead to me.

What evidence that he's admitting any mistake? I haven't heard any come from his mouth.

Then you just become the Colts the last few years. Bringing in retreads hoping that one of them sticks with no path forward. You don't bail on a highly drafted QB after only two years (especially when Year 1 was a success). The Giants didn't bail on their underperforming young QB and brought in a new coach and, surprise, he's had a rebound year.

The Pats should move heaven and earth to bring in a new OC and QB coach and then see if there's any improvement next year. If not, then it's time to start thinking about a new QB and possibly a new head coach (note that I said "start thinking about").

You also need to get a true #1 target for your young QB. That's a tall order since the FA market for that player is very thin this upcoming offseason and they need to draft Oline more than anything this upcoming draft.

If the Patriots bring in a FA QB then Mac's getting traded. Patriots aren't putting a 1st round, 2-year starter on the sideline behind a veteran QB. The only scenario (and not a long-term one) where Mac is a backup is if the team enters the next training camp with an open competition between Mac and Zappe and the latter wins out. Under that scenario, if Zappe proves to be a legitimate starter, then Mac is probably out the door by the trade deadline.
