Mac Jones last two weeks

That may be, but the numbers (the sack yards) obviously don't lie, and that's essentially what you can look at to get a sense of what @BaconGrundleCandy was referring to, and it was a valid point. Obviously, it wasn't quite as damaging last year because they weren't coupled with a lot of the negative penalties that have also been a bigger problem this season.

You responded to me before I revised my post. You look at Fields and Lawrence and they had similar sack yards lost. So it seems to be a rookie thing more than Jones not being good in the pocket. Based on the numbers you are using, Jones was 28 sacks for 241yards (8.6 av. yards) and Lawrence was 32 sacks for 238 (7.4 av. yards lost). I don’t know if that is a huge difference. And no one says that Lawrence is bad in the pocket.

More experts on Jones’ pocket presence in 2021.

A year later, McShay believes Jones was arguably the best quarterback from his draft class in his rookie season. He still liked Jones’s pocket presence and movement in the pocket, as well as his ability to get rid of the ball quickly (Jones’s 2.71 seconds before throwing the ball was the ninth-best in the league, per McShay).

I have supported Mac all along. Yesterday was bad. No way to see the glass half full. Some of his initial passes were atrocious and it didn't seem to improve. People want to blame Patricia but the OLine was OK and Mac had time to throw. Mac was missing guys that were open by a lot. Oddly he moved around better IMO. Mac can't turn or back up and then step into his throw for some reason. I think Zappe can compete next year in camp. Mac has to improve. The play calling was OK and the OLine was much better, and Mac was worse. Go figure.

No worries. And obviously, it's guys like Allen and the others I included that are better examples. After a tough run this year, Jones is at 26/175 which is significantly better but we still have three games left. Although again, Allen's at 30/145, and even Lawrence is at 24/156. Pederson has certainly helped him improve, and the results obviously reflect it. But those guys both do a good job of throwing the ball away, which Jones has only recently started to do with any real consistency.

This is just bonkers:

‘This has been an issue all year. Kurt Warner pointed out the same thing in his video breakdown earlier this year. Patricia has receivers side by side running mirror routes for some unknown reason. But in this play has four receiver within five or so yards of each other.

Jones zinged a couple of passes the last two weeks that just got past defenders for the completion. I can think of two plays where that happened, one of which happened Sunday. Both were close, but he still zipped it in there. His arm is deceptively decent - albeit obviously not at the level of other elite QBs. I pointed this out in a .gif comparing his arm strength to Zappe's. He's not Josh Allen, he's not Justin Herbert. He is what he is.

Well he did get drafted into the NFL so I’d expect him to have accuracy. But my point is it’s not consistent or star quality.

I don’t know if it’s his talent or brain - meaning confidence. The 2pt conversion floater was a thing of beauty. But when he’s in the RZ on regular drives his passes always look like dogshit. They are almost always way off the mark.

It’s like he gets to the 50 and then panics and forgets how to throw.

And he wasn’t like that last season until the wind game.

Did that game **** up his confidence that bad? Or am I reading into it. Can 1 regular season game do that to a person?

He has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. Honestly the next person to ask him his opinion will be the first. Embarrassing himself though lol. Poor guy lost the warm up, battle, war, after party and next day. And still post like he has a point.
His style is to go "hard" once he's made a stand. He likes to brag about it. Lmao.

Mac has been bad this year BUT he did look good last year with a real OC in McDaniels. So while I get the tendency for the groups to pull out the pitchforks.

I'm not willing to yet throw Mac down the drain until we see this offense with a real OC. Every player from the OL to the receivers to the tight ends have regressed to career lows this year. The offense is worse than the cam newton offense...with better talent. I would bet any money had bill handled the coaching staff this summer like any normal NFL team (hiring real OC and staff not your buddies who've never done it before) or we kept McDaniels this offense and team would look MUCH different.

Bill in his arrogance underestimated how tough coaching an offense is. And on top of it has the buffoon come up with a new offense and change it in the off-season.

Either we are going to ignore the elephant in the room (Patricia) and ALL of the media analysis that says this offensive playcalling is a mess. To feed a narrative that this is all Mac...and somehow he's holding back Patricias brilliance. Or we can look at the big picture. Mac has not been good. But he isn't helped by having horrible coaching, playcalling which has hampered his development to a point where he doesn't even look like an NFL QB.

If Mac Jones looks this bad next year with a real OC calling plays the. I'll hop on the "Mac sucks" bandwagon. But for now I only have 2 examples of mac. One as a rookie where he looked poised and threw 23 tds with McDaniels. And this year which it's clear the offense is a mess.

So he's a big question mark.

Unless Mac balls out over these last 3 weeks and hopefully gets the Pats into the playoffs he will probably be competing for his job in camp whether it’s with Zappe, a new draft pick (Richardson?) or a vet.

Mac has been up and down all year. Sunday was the worst I've seen him play. All qbs have terrible games. I am in wait and see mode.

Too much noise all around to make a decent evaluation of the player.

I doubt they draft someone. There's no big time QB in the draft and I'd argue any this year in the first down are a reach. Generally you give a guy 3 years of a rookie contract before you look at moving on. If he can't beat Zappe in camp... that's one thing. But realistically what will happen is they'll try to make some plays in the off season, hopefully ditch Patricia, and give Mac next year to prove it or not with better support.

If he does, great. If not you go to the draft and get your guy and hope the situation is better for a rookie to walk into

It's sad to consent to, but I'm finally ready to let go of the hope that Mac is the guy.
We can blame OC a lot, but yesterday there were plenty of plays to be made. And over the last several weeks, a lot of missed guys.
He's only comfortable with the screen passes and check-downs, not really seeing the field.
It may be the change/quality of coaching, but still, wouldn't hurt to see Zappe in a couple games now.
Mac likely can be fixed with a complete overhaul next year, but who knows what stubborn BB will do.
Check down behind the LOS Mac.

Based on the evidence do you think that can remotely happen?? Not a chance I tell you Joe Burrow will show us what a real young QB plays like then the undefeated against the Patriots Tua and the Great Josh Allen. Mac won't be able to Keep up and our D can only do so much. I am confident the Pats will move on after our next three. Mac will also crap the bed in a competition I bet fingers and toes he loses great for us.

Notice those three QB's will be throwing to Chase, Hill, Waddle, and Diggs. Notice what they all looked like before they got those guys.

This is just bonkers:

Should have Drafted George Pickens who is already better than any WR on this Patriots roster. He's as polished as they come as a Rookie but no we Drafted the Rail before him what could have been.

Please stop the crap David Carr thew to a Jag for the game tying TD. How many times have Mac threw a ball like that for a TD?? VERY few! you know why he's scared that it might get picked. I have seen enough of Mac Jones he won't ruin anymore of my Sundays can't wait for the season to end. It should be a fun Off-season for the Patriots so many things to set right.

The real question still exists, even with all the coaching malfeasance... is Zappe better?

But Rod would disagree is every way.
