Here is a screenshot of the play at the moment when Owenu threw his guy to the ground. See that Andrews is standing right in front of Owenu. Look at how much space there was between the defender and Strange.
I got one question. If Jones stepped up in the pocket on that play, would Owenu get credit for the sack for throwing his defender into Jones.
And also, up until Owenu threw his guy to the ground and disengaged him, why would Jones even need to step up into the pocket?

Once a Defender is on the ground 8-10 times he's basically done Mac got a little nervous. I am sure he would love that play back. Allen - Mahomes - Brady - Herbert and Jackson makes that play.
I am sure which ever receiver ran right into the safety would love to have it back. I am sure Henry who is flying in the air in that screen shot would love to have it back. I am sure that Owenu who threw his defender to the ground and let him free would love to have it back.
Still don't know how it makes the play on Jones. I have pointed out multiple players who were big contributors in this play failing. Some arguably far more responsible than Jones.

I am sure Mac knows he ain't getting perfect protection from this current OL but that sequence ain't bad the D gets paid to play too. Mac just have to make the most of it like BB said we did some things well and need to clean up others.
LOL! Kingsburg at least seems engaged, albeit to the detriment of his team. His team sucks too, especially without Murray, so there's that. Sleepy Bowles has actually got some talent to work with yet he's coaching his team literally into the ground. Bowles might be the worst head coach in the league today. Kingsburg and Lovie Smith are pretty bad. I can't figure out how Detroit is winning so many games with a goon like Dan Campbell.

This screen shot is after I'm talking about since you can see Mac in the picture already breaking down. Shuffle inside toward Andrews is what I would have liked to have seen
Watching this team each play, each week : it’s absolutely mind blowing NE is 7-6. I mean, the injuries, the mistakes, the penalties…. and yet TODAY they’d be in the playoffs.
Anyone else concerned about Thornton being used in the quick passing game with all of those big bodies near him? There was a play where he was in the slot and a quick pass was delivered to him and big guys tackled him.
Last night was a flash back to Madden 2010 I think huge screen pass bias. Good thing we were playing a Team with a questionable Defense and Coordinator.

But why would Jones need to step up into the pocket before this screen shot? He would literally have been on Strange's arse to not have the defender not hit him when Owenu threw the defender to the ground. But before that, Jones had a clean pocket with no reason to step up.
Did everyone hear Troy Aikman's assessment of the Patriots?... "not a playoff team." Well, they may actually be, but he has a point if he's referring to the 7th playoff team in general... this season it's likely to setup a couple of really uncompetitive wild card matchups.

Because the two tackles were taking the rushers deep and he had wide open space to the right. I'm not saying go toward where Onwenu's rusher i headed. I'm saying shuffle to the right behind Andrews. Look, I know he's not as nimble as Herbert, but he doesn't have to be. This is the kind of space in the pocket a lot of QBs can take advantage of

MP is in over his head.
But I laugh at all these media clowns ranting about all the screen passes. If you're gonna cover the nfl shouldnt you have beyond just a basic knowledge of the game?
Our ol can't block. Period. Mac running for his life almost every play. No way in hell can they attempt any deep passes.
That's why the scheme is what it is.
The #1 issue is NOT MP. Not Mac. Not the wrs. It's the extremely offensive line.
Yes injuries on the ol have played a part. But Wynn sucked when he played. Brown has been inconsistent. Gotta fix this mess in the offseason. Do what takes including kidnapping Scar.
I definitely agree with you for the most part, but a ~40 air yd pass can need as little as 2 seconds from snap to release (so ~1.6-1.7s snap to decision to throw). Since the emergence of Zappe as a threat to take his job, Mac has seemed incredibly conservative for the most part, so he's probably not in "throw the guy open" mode.
At worse if he dumps it to Harris here, there's a 5 yard pick up for a 3rd and 5 instead of a 3rd and 10. But you can see Mac's not set and he's already panicking. Missed opportunity.
