Potential Coaching Candidates after BB Retires [Update: Bedard believes Monday's outcome could result in "serious question" about Belichick's Future]

Bill is facing a gauntlet. He's facing one former player he kicked to the curb that is itching to beat him, a former assistant who wants to reenact 2009 and fist pump his way off the field before getting fired himself and then 3 teams fighting for the #1 seed.

It is bizarre though how any fan could think that Bill is pointing the team in the right direction. This is Carroll 1999 all over again.

When a reporter says something like this, I always wonder exactly who the "trusted source" is that would tell them something like this. Even if Kraft was thinking of firing Belichick, how many people would he tell? Probably not many and I highly doubt he'd tell it to anyone who'd leak it to a reporter.

It just seems so obvious nowadays that many "reporters" use the anonymous trusted source thing as a way of throwing something out there that they made up in their heads.

Did he? Do you have any confirmation on that?
Brady had a direct path to Kraft and went to BK to get Jimmy gone because Brady felt threatened. From my sources back in Mass, Jimmy was running his mouth that the Pats were his team. Supposedly Jimmy looked really good in camp and was ready to take on old man Brady.

BB did not want to trade Jimmy away. There was a quote by BB that basically stated "when your boss says trade a player you do it."

I think the wheels come off where the Pats end up 6-11 or 7-10 and Belichick and Patricia lose the team. I think there legitimate chance Kraft cleans house. I doubt it will be if they lose in Arizona, but Arizona could be an indicator of how the rest of the season goes.

But Kraft was not happy about Patricia and Judge running the offense last spring. He said Belichick has earned the leeway to go with this plan, but that doesn't mean when it blows up in Belichick's face that he is going to give Belichick a chance to right the ship.

It will really be how the rest of the season goes. Because if Belichick loses the team, I don't think Kraft is going to let Belichick do what he did after the 2009 season and clean house of the players who were malcontents and rebuild.

But my guess is if Kraft wants Belichick gone at the end of the season, he will force Belichick to fire Patricia and Judge (possibly Steve Belichick and Mayo if the defense has another late season collapse) in hopes Belichick will quit on his own to defend his staff.

Wickersham citing a bunch of anonymous sources.

Tom Curran thinks BB could be on thin ice if they continue the 4th annual December slide and does his "shoulder shrug and grunt" when asked by Kraft what his plan is.

But why would anyone want BOB here after the sh*t he pulled in Houston?
BOB went off on the GOAT.

His short fuse could never deal with the Boston media. The Houston media are ****y cats compared to the Northeast

Bill arguing on the sidelines with a 3 time SB champ at that time was his claim to fame.

Watch the video. Bedard doesn't believe it will come to it because he thinks the Pats will beat the Cardinals and/or Belichick will probably go to Kraft and say he is getting a real OC and offensive coaching staff next season that will probably save his job. But the sources say that it could be the end of his Patriots career. Not that it is. Could.
That guy ain't getting 16 minutes of my time to peddle his click bait theory.

Guess the mods disagree with your thread-worthy comment since this has been merged into the eventual BB retirement thread.

I know what Bedard meant, but I doubt very seriously BB would be fired in season. I fully expect there to be some executive decisions on the staff this off season..
That's why it's click bait nonsense. He doesn't say BB will be fired in-season, but does what he can to suggest it by saying this single event in-season is what will trigger a firing, all based on unnamed sources.

He can't be proven wrong because the only way to prove it would be if after BB's eventual departure someone significant (BB or one of the Krafts) goes on the record saying it was that one game against the Cardinals that was the reason that BB is no longer HC of the NEP.

Till then, it just stays a click bait narrative he can peddle to fill time on his podcast.

This is a better spot for this post...

I haven't read the Bedard article but it seems highly unlikely Belichick's future with the team would be tied to this one game. Against an NFC opponent. Even if they lose they could rip off 4 wins in a row against AFC teams to finish out the season. That would more than make up for a loss to the Cardinals. Aside from that the Krafts probably will have a close eye on what we do against Miami and Buffalo. If we lose those two then we're 2-4 in the division with a sweep of Zach Wilson. 0-4 against Miami and Buffalo would be incredibly demoralizing for the organization. At that point the Krafts may have some reconsiderations about Belichick's future but probably not enough to flat-out fire him. They also would obviously need to consider who would be the alternative to Belichick... right now the only semi-available guy to reasonably replace Belichick is Sean Payton (who is going to coast draft picks).

Imagine Jonathon being in a meeting with his Dad when asking Bill to remove his sons from the coaching staff.

bedard is the absolute worst. well the whole boston media is salivating talking about BB's job after 3 season post brady with 1 losing season. And they will accomodate a new coach with rebuilding for 4 yrs ???
Boston media loves to drive out its players and coaches and they are pissed they havent been able to do that with BB

It’s been said in the past that BB has earned the right to decide when to step down. May have even been said by Kraft
My $0.02: Bill will probably come to the conclusion that the Matty P experiment has been a fail all on his own and make major changes in the off season. His recent comments about not being able to change the scheme mid-season support this idea.

If not, Robert and/or Jonathan will lean on him to make changes, but that's all they'll do.

If he says no, chances are strong they won't fire him, IMO, just like they weren't willing to take things to the limit over Brady. There's no indication that they're preparing for a life after BB. The only ones talking up that line are Boston sports mediots who would love to hang BB's scalp off their belts.

I don't get the infatuation with a guy who struggled to finally win one ring and otherwise ended up irrelevant by the end of most Januarys in the NFC...?

They started 6-2 in 1999. There was actual hope that season. That’s how quickly things can change.
