Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Jets

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

Most embarrassing win that I can recall. Folk fell apart, 4th and 3 shotgun sweep and macs statue like pocket presence just awful to watch. Maybe we squeak in playoffs but we are not a good team the offense is in shambles.
Folk didn't 'fall apart', he was trying to kick in a hurricane.

i really think what you're seeing right now is the buffalo wind game stretched out......the patriots were in a stretch where they could get away with going ultra-conservative, limit/eliminate mistakes, and let the D win games......i think they can do that again thursday, too.......i wonder how much of the play calling is "matty sucks" vs "BB doesn't care what anyone thinks, he just tries to put together a gameplan that results in a win"

i don't think the missed FGs and total breakdown of the OL (along with two injuries mid game) were part of the plan, but no one at that coaching staff cares about much else beyond the win......i honestly think a win that causes the boston sports "media" to utterly lose their **** is a bonus to this staff lol

take away the wind and the injuries and maybe they open it up a little more vs the jets, but factor in the injuries and wind and this WAS a winning gameplan.......limit one of those and this was a classic 9-3 win, maybe more because making those FGs would have forced the jets to open it up a little more, and that would have resulted in TOs

between mac getting hurt, the OL being a turnstile, and the schedule.......i really think the plan to some extent has simply been the buffalo wind game stretched out, somewhat by design

the question is, what happens when they have to open it up? nothing good if they don't solve some issues up front......and that OL is key

I've asked the Mac haters, who could come into this organization, under the demands, the pressure, the day to day grind and handle what the patriots ask of thier player's especially qb , and endure everything Mac has had to.. let that sink in.. not every coaching decision works out, and we can accept that.. bb has succeeded more than not.. but the kid hasn't been put in the best position to succeed.. we actually looked better on offense earlier in the season.. I thought coaching was all about adjusting..
Are you trying to make it this easy? Zappe.

Glad this was written. Twists the knife more for all he a-hole Jets fans.

"Was first impact technically on the side? Maybe. Did Wilson shove Hardee in the back with both hands? Absolutely."

One hand's contact was initiated on the side of the shoulder pads (regular camera angle), and the other hand was in front of the defender (oncoming camera angle). Florio's fine, but I don't know what the heck he's seeing there.

Plus the defender was absolutely not catching him, even though Hardee has 4.36 speed. Marcus was just reentering top speed from getting slowed down from the punter, and the defender looked gassed (his running form even before the block).

What the... the headline says that it "came from the side" but the article goes into fine detail about why it was a block to the back? Make up your mind Florio.

Bunch of people here saying Mac is at fault for most of the sacks. The clock disagrees:

Many fans blamed Jones for this sack yesterday ignoring the fact that Cajuste just waived hello to Clemons as he ran by him unimpeaded to the QB and Trent Brown missed his block so bad that he ended up on all fours on the ground. They claimed that Jones either didn't even try to step up in the pocket or he didn't have the pocket awareness to know that both his tackles would completely blow their blocking assignments and start to step up in the pocket even before he backed up.

Also this from Daniels.

Love seeing sensible facts! I have a question if you could help me to understand.. everyone on offense is statistically worse this season. It gets tiring seeing how much Mac gets beat up.. it is Mac's fault a new offensive scheme was installed? Inexperienced coaches given the duty to ascend a young qb? I'd like your expert opinion. Thanks!

There are a number of reasons why the offense is miserable and Jones is getting killed. I think the coaching is too predictable. The offensive line is a hot mess. And at times Jones is holding onto the ball too long or not moving around in the pocket although the anti-Jones crowd overstates it. I saw one play yesterday where he should have just thrown the ball out of bounds and took the sack instead. Every other sack was arguably poor protection and people not getting open.

3 seconds is long enough. 2-3 seconds seems like the usual time for the qb to make a decision.
This is on Matt and the offense pass concept and play calling. It's unacceptable to have no one ready to catch a ball after 3 seconds. The routes can't take so much time. The passing game is a mess

Maybe I was not specific enough for you. The reporting is that Brown did not start due to a coaches decision because he missed practices. If he was sick BB is not being fair to the player.

From WEEI Thumbs Down
Trent Brown – New England’s big left tackle was in uniform but did not start against the Jets after reportedly missing a couple practices during the bye week. Instead, Isaiah Wynn returned to his former left tackle spot while Yodny Cajuste got the start at right tackle. Brown then entered the game at left tackle in the second quarter when Wynn went to the sideline with a foot issue. The big man was beaten badly for a sack late in the quarter to force a long Nick Folk field goal that hit the crossbar. New England also lost David Andrews in the first quarter to a thigh injury. Despite the bye, the Patriots' offensive line remains a bit of a mess.
Unless he missed practices because he was sick (as was reported) and Bill didn't start him because he was sick.

Three second is enough IF there is a receiver who ran a shorter route and turned around. Unfortunately, you can see in this video that none of the receivers in frame (and there were three of them) were even looking back to catch the ball. A couple were open, but they cannot catch the ball if they are not looking back for the ball.

Except the headline doesn't match the article.

The headline quotes the NFL's conclusion, then Florio goes on to say that they got it wrong.

yes and this is the problem. Patricia and Jones did not anticipate the rush, they could have changed the play to a concept including a short route.

Well, that doesn't account for whether or not his movement or lack thereof had something to do with the time he had.

Each of Wynn, Ferentz, Cajuste, Strange and sometimes Brown were overmatched yesterday, often more than one on each play. If one guy gets beat you can often step up or throw the ball away, but when two or even three are getting beat at the same time it is way harder.

Over 61 sacks (2009-2011), Brady's average time to sack was 3.1 seconds, so Mac is getting sacked significantly more quickly than that, suggesting that overall he is not getting sacked because he's holding onto the ball too long. Obviously any one play can be different - let's see what the all-22 reveals.
Which ALSO doesn't take into account Brady's incredible ability to move in the pocket to avoid pressure. The raw time till sack is NOT the be all and end all to the story of what's going on absent any other data.
