I think the best most here rate him is in the competent category meaning "if he plays to the mean of his potential in what he does well can manage a strong running and defensive based team to be in most NFL ballgames." Damning with faint praise, I know.

What's worse he's not doing those things well he must (rapid (and good) decision making, accuracy, and ball protection) to be even that 2d/3d tier level QB right now.

Elite is a strong word (at least to me) that invokes "Top 2 or 3 players in a given year or more" talent (and yes I do believe that players can be elite in short stints like a single season, but never be that again).

I honestly have never believed Mac Jones was going to meet that criteria. Even last year, he played to his strengths more consistently, but it wasn't even a great QB year, much less elite (and I'm not the world's toughest grader either).

A win vs the Colts could really go a long way to setting us up. Confidence going into the bye and we could definitely use that time for some key guys to get healed up. Then the Jets again. Some tough ones after that so I don't think we can afford a loss in either of the next 2.

If the Pats can make it into the bye without any major injuries, then there is a very good chance that guys like Barmore and Dugger are back on the field making the defense that much stronger for the stretch run.

Bill is going to need to spend quality picks on the O-line this coming off-season for at least 1 OT and 1 OG as well adding help for Barmore.

No one has really mentioned, but that was Josh Bledsoe who had excellent coverage on the 1st Jets TD. It was just an excellent throw and catch.
The Pats REALLY need a safety to replace Myles Bryant because he is just such a liability out there. It seems that in every critical moment, when he's on the field, the other team focuses on him and they make they play. I'm really hoping that Bledsoe or Wade can surpass Bryant so he'll be a game day inactive.

I'm rooting for the kid, but Zappe's in about the best spot he could be in. Had a bad second half against Chicago but Mac made everyone completely forget about him and they'll still be chanting his name this weekend.

He's got potential and he still hasn't even had a full offseason the way Mac has to get stronger, and he's under contract long enough where they're in no rush and he could very well push for the job if the next nine weeks don't show much promise for Jones. Hopefully, it works out, but if it doesn't, at least we're not sitting here panicking about who they could take in April...yet

I'll be curious if the hit Jones took gets any attention. The way he initially gestured sure seemed to indicate he was concussed. Why in the world he wasn't pulled for an neurological eval is beyond me, especially after all the Tua stuff.

I didn't get to see the play in real time as my stream had cut out. One of the broadcast crew mentioned this saying "If I'm the Jets, I'm questioning how Mac was still in the game".

It used to be that there was an "independent" NFL Consultant who could call down to the Sideline or to the Ref to say a player needed to come out for an eval. It was supposedly instituted because of Edelman.. With the recent TUA stuff, you're right, how Mac was pulled from the game is confusing. It could be because he wasn't directly hit in the head . I just don't know.

It IS a situation that bears watching going forward.

2021 Mac had a high completion %
Broke rookie records at qb not seen since Marino
Took his team to the playoffs
Came in under an ESTABLISHED offense and creative coordinator
Thrived under that system

2022 - failed coaches were brung back in to the organization asked to perform multiple duties
Offensive scheme was changed, not conducive to your qbs skill set but rather the players around him.

Correction: They were Defensive Coordinator who had been an Offensive line coach for a season on the Patriots and a Special Teams Coach.
They have BOTH performed multiple duties in the past.

The offensive scheme was NOT changed other than to simplify terminology and add plays conducive to Mac's skillset.

Please show the PROOF that the plays added were conducive to the Skill Players and not to Mac.

Gets hurt misses time , now working his way back.
Not excusing the give aways but the Offensive line has been bad all year. He showed some stones hanging in there against that ferocious front converting those 3rd downs..

The O-line has been mediocre. They've had good moments and bad. But Mac has taken bad sacks and missed WIDE open receivers.

You realize, someone had to find Tom, right? And are we supposed to penalize all coaches who found a player, coached them up, and then went on to prolonged success? Under that set of guidelines, Bill Walsh, Don Shula and quite a few others - again, based on that mentality - were mediocre coaches who deserve no credit for the guys they cultivated, or the players they coached around them.

Again, it's the chicken or the egg situation and you can't have one without the other. Winning in this league is hard and all successful coaches needed a terrific QB to win. That's why you remember the years when guys like Trent Dilfer or Nick Foles win it all - because it seriously never happens.

We'll put it this way, even Tom can't overcome bad coaching and injuries, and this season is clearly proof of that. As a matter of fact, if nothing else, it shows Arians was at least decent enough for how far they got two years ago. And it's too bad, because I was hoping Bowles was finally going to establish himself but even he can't keep that circus intact.

No penalty flags there as far as I remember... No turn-style whiffs either... As Rob0729 mentioned above, I also thought he performed better than Strange69 did, who seems to be regressing the past couple of weeks...

Cole Strange's performance has been fairly steady. But you could really see what the loss of David Andrews at Center meant to the line as a whole on Sunday. The Jets defensive line came into the game looking fabulous since the beginning of October piling up sacks, pressures and QB hits. Jets DT Quinnen Williams is the real deal on the inside.

I hope Andrews is cleared to go against the Colts.

Here is his INT%, which leads the league by a mile, even over known INT machines like Winston & Wilson, & rookie Pickett. His Int% is an outlier in the league. I also drew that in crayon so you can see.

Yeah, Mac Jones is not having a good statistical season. There's no denying that. The inconsistent play of the OL has lots to do with that. Let's see what happens as things unfold. I thought they did a good job on Sunday in the second half of pretty much keeping him in the gun, running the ball when the defense showed pressure, and going conservative with the lead.

That sack where he held onto the ball and didn't sense the pass rush at all was disturbing. It shouldn't take too many of those car wrecks to get him more aware and stepping into the pocket and getting rid of the ball. This is a work in progress. I like that the Patriots have two very capable young QBs with upsides. It's just tough to watch sometimes.

After that 1-3 start, 4-4 looks good to me. We're on to the Colts at home.
