Game Day Thread Official Post Game Day Thread- Pats beat the Jets

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

On the positives -
1. Rham could be really good. Potential center piece of the offense. Like Kamara.
2. Meyers is a beast. If only Mac could look at anyone else.
3. Pass rush & Secondary showed up today (in periods, with series of bad lapses). Wise & Judon really took over 2nd half. Peppers emerged.
4. Folk is one of the most consistent kickers in the league.
5. Marcus Jones is starting to be exciting as PR
Lots to dissect definitely, but this was hard earned win.. have to give that jets D credit they are ferocious! They remind me of the Rex Ryan defenses.. I wish that my guy Hunter Henry would appear somehow! This guy is too good a player to be MIA like this.. how. Much easier would Mac's life be if he had the TE involved..

Mac showed zero pocket awareness or pocket presence. He needs to perform a LOT better before I'd call him 'good'.

Sure you can say that the OL didn't do him any favors, but he has to know where the pressure is coming from and either dump it off quicker or throw it away to the sidelines to avoid losing yardage if there's no play to be had.

6 red zone opportunities, only 1 TD. That's a 16.7% TD conversion rate. That by definition is BRUTAL offensive efficiency.

We're just lucky that Nick Folk never misses kicks under 50 yards and the defense showed up with their A game today.

And you as a poster are BRUTUAL as well. Always looking to complain and twist facts to make your invalid opinion look better. Go look at Josh Allen in Y2 and get back to me. Sheeesh.

The one thing I liked about Mac today, he was under a lot of pressure and didn't panic.

He was again way too loose with the ball. He held it too long. BUT... he didn't panic.
Ehhh. He looked pretty flighty to me at times. Not "panicked," but far from cool as ice.

Ehhhhh. Your context is too narrow. If you look at the entire year, not just this game, and re Mac take into account to the latter part of last year, and examine the facts, there is no question Zappe has outplayed Mac over that period. I agree Mac did not disqualify himself today, but I believe even more firmly that he certainly did not EARN the job today. Our difference may be a matter of emphasis, I suppose, but there's a difference.

People overrate Zappe’s play this year. He was great vs the Lions. He great on two drives against the Bears until they made adjustments to shut him down. The other two games he didn’t screw up and let them run the ball.

Last year, Mike White threw for 405 yards and 3 TDs vs the Pats. The Jets didn’t pull Wilson for Mike White.

Can we stop with the "play calling sucks" narrative? The play calling is getting more creative with every game and is looking better and better as each week builds on the last.

You are going to tell me that Mac had a near perfect passer rating on play action last year and now you think he sucks at it and it is all him. You think it has nothing to do with a completely changed offense, an OC who has no experience calling offensive plays, and the Pats rarely call play action for him?
I was ready to blame the issues about 90% on the coaching staff early on, then Zappe played well. When the 4th round, undersized career back-up at best? rookie played well under the same coaching staff, well then I also had to take a closer look at Mac.. and I don't accept the coaching change as a strong enough reason to excuse the extremely poor performance he has put out on the field.

I still think he can regain some of the promise he showed last year, but he needs to start doing it. The OL has been suspect (but also looked vastly superior with Zappe in?). The coaching has been questionable (but surprisingly no one was questioning it during a certain 3 week stretch). Ultimately, Mac needs to do a much a better job controlling the things he can control. If what he is currently showing is his ceiling with this staff and this OL, it's not good enough and we should try the other guy (if there's not significant improvement by, say, after the bye).

It's good to win but the team certainly didn't show that they really are anything but a middling team.

I hope they get Mac some nice offensive weapons in the off-season because this has been pretty hard to watch unfold.
Hunter Henry is a top 10 NFL TE, he's been seemingly phased out this offense, even with Parker out he still didn't get any looks, imagine if Mac had a TE, however Mac does need a bona-fide WR and we need ty Montgomery back!

The only positive of Parker getting hurt, is that MAYBE they'll be forced to play Bourne more vs the Colts.
Sad that they couldn't find ONE time to take a shot or trick play to Thornton.
I really saw this as an old-school BB plan. Play very safe (boring) on O, force a young QB to make mistakes and count on our fundamentals to be able to out-coach your divisional b*tch. It worked.
They know they need to recalibrate at the bye - they just needed to tough out a win, and they did.
I think it will only be a bit more aggressive next week. They're trying to prevent errors at this point.

I thought he was too cool back there. I was waiting for multiple strip sacks.

As YOU describe the facts of Zappe's play, he has outdone Mac. Oh well, we'll see. I do think we don't know yet where this will end, don't reject at all that Mac might win the job, but to this point, I was certainly hoping for more from our first-rounder. Weren't you? And did not expect this much from the - what? -fourth-rounder.

This thread is nauseating. The Pats go into the Meadowlands to play a team smelling blood with 5-2 record that also spanked Miami and Green Bay. The Pats win in the Jets house and y’all are *****ing and moaning - even about players who played well.

Imagine if Hunter Henry had a decent QB

Look what happened when the Bears figured out Zappe. The four drives. Four tipped balls at the line and two INTs. Zappe looked great vs the Lions who have the worst defense in the NFL. People overrate his game vs the Browns.

The Jets have one of the best. You are not comparing the two on equal footing.

If Belichick truly thought Zappe was better, he would be starting Zappe. That is a simple fact. Zappe will get back in only if Jones plays himself out of the starting job. He didn’t today.
I wouldn't be surprised if Belichick suspects Zappe might be better right now but is just willing to give Mac more time to develop or prove that suspicion correct. The multi-year Richards experiment comes to mind.

Approximately how many "yays" and "yipees" would satisfy you?

I think play design sucks. I have no qualms with play calling, but when your spacing is constantly messed up, that's on the coaches. Take the 4th down play when Mac faked and ran it. You have to give your QB an option there. Horrible play design. And I've seen a lot of that this year. With fewer weapons ast year, we had much better play design.

That's what this board does.

*****ing about Mac, *****ing about playcalling. *****ing about Zach's 350yds even though the threw 3 picks and comp less than 50% of his passes.

Won a divisional game on the road and back to .500 after a **** MNF disaster.

Insufferable.
