As a Bills fan, Zappe scares me

Mac's ankle is feeling much better as we speak...I bet he's putting more weight on it.

A counter point: Look at how the Dolphins third string QB played yesterday.

If nothing else, we have a cheap backup QB for four years, saving us millions of cap dollars.

I think BB and team heavily simplified the game, largely depended on FGs and a nice defensive score, survived Agholor's bad hands, and let the defense control the game.

That should be the recipe for Mac when he returns. Mac has had too many interceptions. Some have been the fault of the receivers, but some have been Mac clearly throwing into double and triple coverage.

Mac should be told if he can't clean up that part of his game, Bailey is gonna start.

Agholor is a FA this off season, clearly he won't be back next year, he is just not playing well enough relative to what he gets paid.
Simplify the offense even more... we were told offense was being simplified for Mac this season.

Pats were far less painful to watch this season with Zappe over Mac. Not sure it has to be more complicated than that.

That's not what I've read.

What I've read is that the 2022 offense was simplified, the 2023 offense is now meant to expand the envelope.

There was a lot of spin about simplifying the terminology after so many years of McD and Brady adding too much complexity. The reality is that the 2022 offense is more complex because they were taking the training wheels off Mac at the same time.

Could very well be just a coincidence, but even I as a fan felt calmness. Wonder how the Oline feel.

Reporter "Could you foresee any scenario in which Mac Jones is 100% healthy and Baliey Zappe remains the starter this season?"
Bill "Yeah...I'm not going to get into scenarios."

I don't thin Bill said "yeah" as in yes. IMO it was closer to this...

If it happens, I'm not complaining

I want to see some long strikes by Zap where the ball lands in front of the receiver instead of hitting him in the axx. Thats all. NFL type throws.

Probably wont happen because they want him on a short leash

Zappe was throwing to wide open guys while playing against the worst defense in football. Please stop the nonsense
Mac was doing that against Baltimore who is the worst pass defense in the league and still threw 3 INT and 0 TD.

Ughh, I was so excited about Mac too. I know it's too early to say anything, but did not start the season nearly as well as I thought he would.

So what's your point, that it proves Zappe gives us the best chance to win? Let's see what Zappe can do if he has to come back, or score points starting on our 25. He made some good plays and he didn't appear shook but he didn't do anything(nor was he asked to) when we took over already in scoring position. A bunch of field goals. If Mac continues to turn it over when he comes back then that's a problem but Its just to early to start projecting.

Zappe had 1 drive starting in Lions territory. He scored with drive starting at :

NE 3
NE 13
NE 25
NE 34
NE 32

Right now Zappe gives us the best chance to win because he will not make the mistakes that will kill us like Mac has been doing.

I thought that Zappe showed more poise in this game than Mac ever showed this year. I saw Zappe step up in the pocket. I can’t even remember the last time I saw Mac step up in the pocket. I think more often then not he is turning his back on the OL and tries to run out. Sometimes running right in the pressure. There was a play, I believe in the Steelers game where he bailed out of the pocket when the pressure wasn’t even close and ran right in the defender trying to go outside of Wynn.
I thought the offense looked much more in rythme with Zappe.

At this point it’s pretty clear that Mac is not a QB that can carry an offense. The first 3 games proves it. The patriots thought they could ask more of Mac in year 2 evidently it was a mistakes and if we have to go back to the Zappe gameplan (lean on the run and throw safe passes) with Mac then it’s not a good look on him.

I don’t get the consternation over the QB situation, the Pats have two good prospects.

It really doesn’t matter if one starts over the other, they’ll play the one who gives them the best chance to win but will still have a good one on the bench.

Drafting Zappe was smart, they needed a starter and a back up… Hoyer is a coach.
