Belichick called Humphrey a "big receiver, tight end-ish type of guy," and he could earn a roster spot as a pseudo-third tight end. As shown above, Humphrey's (no. 83) blocking ability flashed twice in New England's crack toss scheme. The receptions are nice, but the blocking and plays in the kicking game will make Humphrey a tough cut.

LJH is tall, has good hands, and is slow. I think that is fair. LJH's RAS (relative athletic score) numbers are listed under "The Worst" section in this link 2019 NFL Combine results: Wide receivers winners, losers. LJH scored less than 1% on all of the "speed" scores, that means 99%+ of the WRs at the 2019 combine were faster. If a player is one of the 99.5% lowest at the Combine, I think it is valid to say he is "slow as molasses" relative to his NFL peers. We can disagree. LJH's height is great, and his hands are solid, so he has positives and negatives.

The Patriots are transitioning to smaller faster players on offense and defense. Hightower, Collins, and Van Noy are out, Winovich was traded, and new faster smaller guys are playing. In the draft we selected the fastest WR and the fastest RB in the whole Combine, so obviously there is an emphasis to get faster. In my opinion, adding someone who was the slowest at the 2019 Combine is not in line with the Pats new direction (a direction I agree with). We can disagree.

Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry are one of the best TE duos in the NFL. They are both average and short of All Pro, and playing together they will see their overall numbers drop as they share the ball for the sake of the team. Since you think Smith and Henry are one of the weakest position groups on the team, l am not sure how to respond. I think you are completely wrong.

Can we add LJH to the PS? Sure, that is fine. Should we add LJH to the 53? I strongly think not. We let Jakob Johnson go as we head in a new direction offensively and I see including one of the slowest prospects in the 2019 draft as not in line with our new direction. Can LJH crack block on the end? Yes. Can he run the seam with his height and hands? Yes. Is that really what we are looking for? I do not think so, even if you qualify your argument as a "TE-surrogate".

Seriously, we need a #3 TE, and Asiasi is that player. Most here recognize that Asiasi had made a place for him self on the 53 man roster. But, sure, the team could acquire an upgrade, as they could for at least 40 of the 53.

I think the O Line is dealing with a big batch of new stuff in addition to the usual injuries and shuffling. The passing game got simpler, the blocking scheme became rocket science.

Perhaps that is why they have a rocket scientist coaching the O line..

I’m a firm believer that fans can’t take away much from a preseason game. However, in the interest of pointing out BB’s famous “never as good as you think”:

1) I didn’t see a single Carolina starter out there. I had a depth chart looking at every number I saw, and no starters. We, of course, had all but a few starters in for like three series.
2) The Carolina Panthers aren’t particularly good…

I watched the Carolina version of the broadcast (where ex-Panthers are the commentators and they run Bo'Jangles commercials). Every other comment was how there wasn't a single starter getting any reps on either side of the ball. (IIRC) They were playing a QB who is fourth on the depth chart. The starters won 5 games last year. Intuitively, they shouldn't be able to anything good.

But, preseason/grain of salt. Fingers crossed.

I only watched the first half. My issue with Asiasi is that he has done nothing in two seasons, however it’s not a big deal to me as far as who they keep, but ST’s almost always factor in to the final roster spots at each unit.

Asiasi is a lock. They need 3 TEs that can play in-line.

He can play in-line and block? All last year. Asiasi also is a great teammate, goes out of his way to join the QBs at their Spring throwing sessions, BB said Asiasi took a big jump this year, he is huge, very athletic, and fits with the team. I think you are barking up the wrong tree - it is his third year and he keeps improving. He is a fine TE backup and might start someday.
