Why are guys avoiding 88 and 80?
These young guys want numbers in the teens which look terrible. In fact, Terrell Owens had said back in his day keeping a number in the teens during training camp was a sign you were getting cut.

Numbers in the 80’s just aren’t cool enough for kids these days.

If reports are true # 11 has only 6 receptions in camp so far. Meyers is in the 20's range.

28 is off the table this season

That's how they've honored certain players, sort of "retiring" their number but just for one season.
Sometimes, but not always. White is a fan favorite and a Super Bowl hero but he wasn't quite Gronk or Edelman.

I think he is referring to this one, but it's misleading as Thornton hasn't been playing with the 1st team and Mac until recently. If anyone is trying to argue that he's not having a good camp they are just not paying attention

Yes I know. That's with Jones. Most of the time he was not running with the 1st team.

Damien Harris now a complete RB or is this check down Mac??

Wonder if Butler will take a different number now, or if they'll just have a 4 on offense and a 4 on defense until the end of preseason.

I think they'll share, and if they both make the team (not a 100% lock for either of them, especially Butler) one will change. I'd expect it to be Butler because he said when he picked 4 that he doesn't really care.

This isn't true. Many WR want to wear different #'s but couldn't bc of rule changes. Moss would have wore 18 if allowed. You can't name 5 better WR than Larry Fitz and he looked clean af in 11. So did Roy Williams. Keyshawn Johnson.

In terms of aesthetic teens look way better imo.

I got a crisp 20 dinglebucks bill here that says nobody wears 28 this year

Keyshawn Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald were the only ones that took advantage of a loophole until they allowed it in 2004. You could wear teens back then only if the numbers in the 80's were taken when you were drafted/signed. If you chose a number in the teens, you don't have to take a number in the 80's even if it opens up.

It's certainly possible you're right, but there's no reason to act so sure about it. It also depends on how much respect Strong garners.

Stardom awaits Thornton wearing No. 11. I just hope he can find a way to avoid contact and getting snapped in half.

The latter. IIRC, teams are allowed to duplicate numbers in the preseason as long as they're not on the field at the same time.
