Nobody stands out so far. Could be Agholor since we have some WR depth - but that would put a big dent in the cap.

I'm not convinced Zappe makes the team yet. Could be a surprise I think since he's having a decent camp.

Or M. Butler?

Meyers in a trade would shock most people, but it would actually be a good thing as it means Parker or Thornton are going to be a big part of the offense.

No, because Bill said today he improved a lot since last year…

True but the surprise cuts usually come from a position of depth and we have depth at WR.

Agholor might be redundant if Bill believes Thornton is legit. I don't think he is though since that would be an awful lot of dead money.

I forgot James White as the odd man out but will retire so he's not cut.

JJ Taylor

Isaiah Wynn would be my pick, but his salary is fully guaranteed.
Going with Michael Onwenu
Wowza. Cutting Onwenu would be - IMO - a massive surprise. In fact, I can only think of a handful of players who I’d consider « safer ».

I’d go White, but I’ll echo the poster who thinks he’ll retire instead. BB loves that guy.

I’ll go Guy.

I would think if it looks like he can't play anymore because of the hip injury, the Pats will cut him instead of letting him just retire... That way he qualifies for/picks up the $2,050,000 Injury protection benefit, just like they did for Jules...

Agholor and Meyers have trade value, especially if/when some WR's on other teams get injured in preseason games... they won't get cut, they'll get traded... and only if Thornton, Nixon and Wilkerson make them redundant.

I said Malcolm Butler a month or so ago, I'll stick with that.

That’s a good one. He’s a candidate for sure.

Strictly talking about cuts (not trades, which leaves Meyers/Agholor off my list): Butler, McGrone, Bethel, Cody Davis. I know McGrone is just a late round pick who missed his entire rookie season, but there was a huge hype train for him all offseason. As for the special teamers, I currently have them on my 53, but there will come a time when we move onto younger core special teamers and it might be this year.

The Onwenu mention seems crazy on the surface, but you have to factor in that the team seems to hate him for reasons unknown to fans. They made him ride the bench way too much last year and this week have been splitting his first team snaps with a guy named Hambright. I would be really mad if we cut Onwenu, but I would also not be super shocked.

Yeah I could see at least one LB getting cut such as Wilson, McMillan, Jennings, Perkins or Uche with McGrone going on PS. In fact, cutting a 5th rounder shouldn't be such a shock. If McMillan gets injured again, I see an injury settlement release coming his way.

Mac for Zappe Hahaha.

Onwenu is in his 3rd year at very low dollars. He will not be cut. Hambright might start (I doubt it), but they will not cut Onwenu even if Hambright starts as Onwenu will be a backup. There is a log jam at LB, can't imagine we keep them all, but not sure any cuts at LB would surprise. A trade at WR, as has been previously mentioned, sounds reasonable if no injuries happen. Special team guys seem reasonable if Thornton, M Jones, and others shine to clear roster spots. Zappe will make the 53 unless he is awful (does not seem to be).

My pick is Hoyer who will be added back after a few weeks in the season. Keene might go but that is not a big surprise.

The cap situation gets worse if they cut Agholor, vs. keep him and pay him?
Butler getting cut wouldn't be a surprise. His comeback is at best 50/50.

Positionally, the safeties seem to have the most "good but not great" guys with a couple of "young and promising" pressuring them for spots.

Somebody mentioned Guy which seems like a legit surprise.
