Jake Bailey Extended

Yeah it’s gotta lower his 2022 cap number. Didn’t have his best year but he’s a great punter. Glad to have him here.

I think he was hurt last year and gutted it out

Special teams in general didn't help him out much. Three blocked punts is very unusual for this team, and that's gotta get in any punter's head at some point. He probably felt he had to rush at times, on top of being hurt.

Assuming the cap space is to sign someone what do the Pats need?

Great signing and an expected extension. He is clearly the best P option the Pats have. Still that's a lot of $$$ for the only player we hope never sees the field!

If they're in the 4.5 - 5m range for cap space now, that's still in line with just having some room for in season operating expenses. I think if they're planning to sign anyone significant at this point, they would need another move as well.

Wynn, Jonnu, Agahlor and Henry are all in the 9 million salary range.

Jessie Bates is an intriguing player.

All they need is operating expenses. By the end of camp depending on injuries and success or failure of prospects they may need or want a player or two for depth.

They’ll have players of their own they’re willing to trade or cut so space will open up that way as well. I suspect they’ll extend players also who show up this year prepared to be part of the solution going forward.

When you (currently) have the second most cap space in the league in 2023 you have plenty of cap space. They’re just doling it out judiciously at this point.

Was listening to a live stream with Miguel a few days ago... Cant remember why, but it had to do with a recent signing... He stated that they used about 19m of cap space over the course of the season last year (or the year before, cant 100% remember) ... those numbers include adding and releasing players (before, during and after camp, adding depth players due to injury during the season, promoting/demoting players to and from the practice squad (there is a cost associated with this - who knew? oh right, Miguel did)...

I think they need to add more cap space before the season gets into full swing... just like having the option to make moves if necessary...

It's right in the CBA. PS players get paid like they're on the 53 for the weeks they're promoted.

I guess they will wait until camp is over and cuts are made...then they will see who can improve the team.
