PFT: Belichick sees Dramatic Improvement in Mac

I was literally referring to bb grabbing Mac by the hand after the game when Mac was nearly in tears

That was quite literally his first regular season NFL game ever, right? And they lost in the final minutes following a turnover, after being positioned to take the lead (and likely the win).

I can understand, given all the circumstances, that could result in some strong emotions, especially for a young quarterback who's certainly under a lot of pressure..

Mac is still a kid; he's not only maturing physically, but emotionally and mentally. He'll be emotionally hardened and calloused in short-order (and I'm sure he already is, to an extent).

That's what we all hope. We saw many examples of him getting too wound up. One that comes to mind is the ankle twist after being hit and losing the football.

He has admitted as much that he practices breathing techniques to help calm down. I hope he can learn to harness the energy and release is the right way.

I don't get the "Limited Ceiling" narrative around Mac. He is a very driven player, he is a very High IQ player, a film room rat, he started woring on his diet and strength and conditioning in his first offseason, went to T House to work on throwing mechanics and 'arm strength', and has won the respect and confidence of his teammates.

The ability to make the correct reads is the MOST important quality of a QB (assuming a reasonable amount of arm talent) Mac is WAY ahead of the curve there. The Other Stuff he is working on and by all accounts makes progress with. People seem to forget or are too young to remember that Brady had a weak are when he came into the league. This was the knock on him in all the Draft reports, Bledsoe had a much stronger arm. Brady however had the higher football IQ he knew where to go with the ball. Jones looks very much like a young Brady albeit with the experience of playing a full rookie year.

I see no reason that Mac cannot be the BEST QB in the NFL.

He was put on a temp ban but there was a question if he would be brought back.

He needed to be a good boy and wasn't.

He might have self-selected which supports what you said.
You've got a mole in Ian's inner scrotum or just Team Bill weekly meeting updates? Lol

At one point he was paying $170k a year in child support.
I was pretty sure he was NOT paying it.

Henry has had on-going problems making his child support payments to the mothers of nine of his children. He was arrested in Polk County, Florida in March 2009 and charged with failing to pay $16,600 in child support.[35] His lawyer estimates that he is obligated to pay at least $170,001 per year in child support payments.

And then

On July 15, 2009, Henry was sentenced to three years in federal prison for financing a cocaine trafficking operation

Really Mac is going to be a lot more and more better. As Burrow skyrocketed his team to the Super Bowl. Hope Jones can do that.

For some reason, the general belief is that with QBs the ability to improve physical skills is more limited than improving football intelligence (ability to read defense, go through progressions quickly, knowing when to stand in the pocket an extra second or take off or dump the ball, etc.). Personally I don't get it. It is far easier to work on your mechanics and get stronger or leaner than to train your mind to process information more quickly or in a different way.

I could see if Jones came into the league built like Trevor Lawrence and still had the same arm strength he had coming out of Alabama. But Jones was clearly not in pique physical conditioning even for a QB and had a lot of room to grow in that area.

And also, the positive about Jones coming out of college was that he was the most NFL ready QB. I think to many, they see it as code that he is very close to a finished product and what you see is what you are going to get for their NFL career.

Good grief. What a valuable member of society.

My gut tells me he learned something from his time with Tom.

In addition I think he is genuine with what hes seen from Mac in terms of he has done everything BB expected him to do and a lot more.

Also might be BB has evolved a little.

My belief is Mac IS setting the standard for work ethic on the team and BB is recognizing that with positive reinforcement which permeates throughout the locker room. If he talks that way about Mac, that'll motivate Mac and the other players on the team to follow his example.

It might also be the way the kid is wired. Tom fed off the "doubters" and would walk through a wall for praise and BB knew it. It was all mind games with Tom. Maybe Mac works harder when hes praised? Maybe he needs that positive feedback? Not sure. Just a guess.
That was my take to, leaders figure out how to motivate their people. BB probably recognizes this is what helps motivate Mac

That’s a big time overpay for what he provides. We could have stayed put in the 1st round, taken Wyatt to play the 3-tech, and then watched Strange on day 2 while saving the money.
Based on what knowledge of other teams draft boards

This argument used to get used for Jordan Richards and Tavon Wilson to justify reaches. The Super Bowl champion Rams made it pretty clear where they evaluated him, for one. It’s not that far-fetched to think he was a Day 2, or even a Day 3 guy. If you lose out on Strange? Oh well. Move on to the next best guy on your board. Hopefully, Strange goes the way of Mankins and Vollmer instead of Richards and Wilson.

Watch that clip again, they weren't laughing because of where the Pats took him. They were laughing because of all the scouting work they had done with fingers crossed they were the team that had found a gem that would fall.

Okay. Watched it again. They watched the tape of him because they thought he would be there at 104, and made that very clear.

Exactly, the Rams thought he was going to be an under the radar pick for them at 104. Also it was reported that Tampa wanted him at 26.

According to some observations his arm is stronger, but not in Josh Allens league

As for the things that actually matter, Jones’ arm looks stronger (as does the rest of him, which you’ve certainly read about by now). There’s more zip on his short passes and the deep ball impressed last month at minicamp. He’s not about to whip passes like Josh Allen, but there’s a marked improvement here.

they considered him at their draft slot,
