NEW ARTICLE: Patriots Linebackers Analysis and Morse’s Morsels

Why are you moving the goal posts? This is about Jalen Mills as an individual - not the rest of the defense.
Can a player be bad on one of the best units in the league, that gave up the 2nd fewest passing yards and 4th fewest passing TD’s in the entire NFL?

Team results matter…

I can tell you why

Not concerned about the CB situation is lack of objectivity /homerism. If your last years best man corner is gone, and you have your other starter now covering opposing WR1 and a couple of unproven vet/rookies in the system as the other outside CB, it's something i worry about.
Especially in combination with an average pass rush because outside of barmore and judon we don't generate consistent pressure.

Or because I’ve already stated repeatedly here that without a small group of young LB’ers emerging as contributing players and health along the defensive front that this defense has a high probability of being very average if not outright bad…. and that’s “homerism” in your estimation.

Football is won and lost at the line of scrimmage, we won a Super Bowl with a WR playing nickel CB. This team had turned multiple UDFA corners into some of the highest paid free agents in the offseason... including this last one.

We have a bunch of CB’s who will potentially man the outside spots that are to the CB position what Jakobi Meyers is to WR, they have everything you want except inline speed. They’re not amazing, but they’re better than the Sterling Moore’s of the world. I already said a lot has to go right in the defensive front for this defense to be good, and even said it was unlikely to happen… but that’s a "lack of objectivity."

Football is played front to back. Learn the game, or at least learn to read.

Man, good thing the league hasn't changed in the last 10+ years.

The more it changes the more it stays the same.

And believe it or not, having great corners has always been a good thing, and there's also always been examples of teams who got by or even won Super Bowls with CB's who weren't All Pros.

I didn't think that you thought that Hightower and Van Noy were top contributors in 2021. Many pointed to their relatively weak seasons.

I didn't, especially regarding Hightower, who played as if he were there just to collect his checks.

Most of those positive statistics you cited earlier were accumulated during the Fraud 7-game winning streak, btw... This defense as currently constituted blows, at both stopping the run and pressuring the pocket; and the CBs here simply do not have the physical gifts necessary to stay in coverage the length of time required before our Non-Existent Without Judon & Barmore Pass-Rush arrives on the scene... No wonder they're switching to zone... Bend But (maybe) Don't Break is Back, Baby!
