Anyone else feel like it's Jakobi's final season here?

What does It say about our current group of wide receivers, that bb went out and signed humpreys?

Maybe not everybody is 100 percent healthy?
Maybe not everybody impressed bb?
Maybe bb thinks more competition is needed for that group?
Etc.

10 WRs on a 90-man roster isn't outrageous (I include Montgomery among the RBs and Slater among the STers)... There's still 4 spots open too...

Didn't seem to be much work to get a long term deal done. I think the team may be shifting to faster more explosive players. I think he leaves next season and Thornton takes a bigger role (expecting him to not have a very big one this season).
Well it depends. How much does he want to get paid? BB never gives up top dollar in a contract unless your name is Randy Moss and even then only begrudgingly. You can think of Meyers as being on a 1 year prove it deal.

If he wants to make a lot of money, it won't be in New England. Meyers puts up typical average slot numbers and doesn't score a lot of touchdowns. His contract should not be that high. But if he wants more, it's unlikely he stays past this year.

Meyers is going to be an expensive 4th WR option unless Parker/Thornton completely bomb. I don't see that happening.

Thornton, Parker, Bourne should be the Pats top3 in 2023. But only time will tell.

I like Meyers and think there's a lot of value to guys that are as reliable as he is (however limited at the ceiling).
Yep - the kind of player who is ever upgradeable, but at the same time gives you a nice 'floor' if you're not able to do so. It won't kill me to see him go, but I'm glad he's here for however long.

Chark had one good season, which wasn't even in this decade. What has he done lately? Not much. And tell me how many complete seasons has he played? Started that long slow decline...

Meyers role on the offense is based on what is called. Some players get the glory, some don't... Just ask Christian Fauria about how that works... He can be found daily on WEEI ...

Again, thanks for playing

It is ironic that you mention Fauria when talking about Meyers.

I have compared Meyers to Fauria many times on Patsfan because they share the same trait.

When they catch the ball, their feet stop & they fall to the ground.

LOL

really man, i understand what you are saying about the TD's... but at least he found paydirt 4 times last year (2tds, 2 conversions)... until someone better emerges, you have to keep him here, unless the price becomes absurd... The Chark comparison was for his 1y/10m dollar contract... just to illustrate where the wr market went last year... Chark underperformed in 2020 based on his 2019 season, missed most of 2021... and still got 10m... so its not out of the realm of possibility that someone offers Meyers a 3/30 deal... my comfort range in re-signing him is more in the 6m range, might go as high as 7.5 but thats pushing it for me...

he moves the chains for us... and as Judge Smails once said, the world needs ditch diggers too

So you like Meyers better than Chark?
That’s your right as a Pom Pom shaking Patsfan.

I don’t agree and that’s my right and if you looked at the responses, I am not alone.

Not every member of Patsfans shakes the Pom poms like you & the Bruins fans

If you don’t like my posts, put me on ignore….

I don’t put anyone on ignore, because not everyone agrees on sports.

When people toss insults, I laugh and eagerly play their game.

You really are an idiot

This may shock you, but I agree with you.

He is not a bad player & I don’t mind him on the team. I just think we should upgrade the position when possible.

I bump heads often with the regulars on here who think Meyers is wonderful.

We have had plenty of receivers who have contributed over the years who did not excel in all stats.

Amendola comes to mind. His regular season stats were pitiful some years & then he helps us win a couple super bowls.

I love Mac Jones & I want him to have quality receivers with guys like Meyers as a bench or part time player.

If he starts scoring, increases his yac & helps us win a couple of playoff games, I will gladly change my tune.

Things are never as they appear.

Edelman knows that BB will say no. That way Edelman can join Brady which was the plan all along. Mr Patriot tried to help his Pats, but they did not want him. Its like George Costanza trying to get fired by the Yankees because he has been offered a better job.
It takes two knees to catch passes. Yes, even from Brady. Unless you think Guerro has no magic juice that regrows knees.

Except in the red zone, where he is erased. I suspect elsewhere on the field, defenses have him as the lowest coverage priority because he's not a threat to score on YAC.
Right. The guy who led the team in 3rd down conversion.

My wife passed away in 2018 from breast cancer, but you didn’t know that.
She would have been ashamed about what you said regarding Nate Soldier and the Vegas Shooting.

It might be....it depends on:

a.) Development of Thorton and Nixon in years 1 and 2 respectively.

b.) Bourne repeating or exceeding his 2021 performance.

c.) Agholor extending his deal or not.

d.) How much Jakobi and his agent want....we could be talking something with an AAV of 13-15M given how the WR market is right now...that is only half of Davante Adams $$$.

e.) How much other teams would be willing to pay Jakobi who would be a solid #2 for most teams, but not a game breaking #1.

f.) Whether Parker and his agent decide to start discussing a new deal with Parker going into a contract year in 2023 with only a 6M cap number.....

g.) Not really factors, but these two things could affect the depth chart pecking order: Trading/cutting N'Keal Harry and the likely retirement of the greatest ST Gunner of all time......

Jakobi is a number 3 . With the way contracts are handed to wr1 , my thinking is wr 2 or wr 3 will get the lower contract value. Similar to what rams do. Pay 10 guys 90% of salary and 90% of roster remaining 10% .

With so many fouls for contact, nfl is gonna become like flag and hence extend careers of wr and QB by limiting injuries.

For the record….. I made that comment the day my wife learned she became stage 4.

I still have the private messages I sent to a couple people with clout on this site, including Ian & Shmessy explaining why I lashed out.

Hopefully you will never experience that type of news.

I still think Soldier sucked & I am glad he didn’t resign here, but I prayed for his boy when he was sick.

Some things are more important than sports.

I get it and sorry to hear about your wife.

Sometimes we say things we don't mean or meant to be taken too literally.

As much as I thought Solder was very overrated, I was rooting for him and his family with everything they've been through.

That would be WAAAAY too high for him. In fact, I think we could have a situation similar in Miami where the inferior player gets paid higher (Byron Jones) than the surpirior player (Xavian Howard). That was rightfully corrected recently.

Bourne is only making $5M per year and outplayed Myers by a mile given he had 56 less targets than Myers. It's not even close.

Look at it this way, If Bill wouldn't match JC Jackson's $16,500,00 per year average, there's no way he pays $13M-15M to Myers.
