Red Sox re-sign Lowell!!!

Nice!

That's exactly what I suggested to my friends, 3/36, but it was kind of wishful thinking, I didn't expect that he would take a pay cuy and less years than he wanted!

2003 mabey???? 3/37.5 Nice job getting it done!

i was very happy to hear about this today .lowell was made to play at fenway .i dont see his production dipping much either .not hitting behind ortiz and man ram

Thanks FTW, I've been busting my butt all day and haven't seen any news. I got a break and scrolled down to your post.................YESSSSSSSSSSSS! Just got my second wind.
We don't have one big need that I can think of, and have a whole lot of options.

3 years @ 12 mil a year.

Good move by Theo, once A-Rod was back with the Yankees, nobody was going to give him 4 years.

Are the Sox actually going to field the same infield two years in a row? Anyone know when the last time that happened???

I'm pretty sure this represents a hometown discount - but also I think Lowell had no desire to just play in any old place on a losing team - or change position if the Yankees were to be believed

Look for him to make up the difference with some endorsement deals - which should be lucrative

Additionally I don't doubt ego enters the equation - in Fenway he's playing in a place well suited to his style in an environment that loves him

Nice to have you back Mike (signed, someone who bemoaned you being thrown into the Beckett deal!)

Very good RS news.. this is a good thing.

Great job signing Lowell...pretty good contract as well. Lowell also turned down a 4 yr/$50 mil contract from Philly to stay...class

It's a good sign for Boston. Lowell is a classy guy, a clutch hitter, great glove, and made for Fenway.

Wow, Theo did a great job this offseason, I never thought we'd get either Schill or Lowell for the price we did. I was completely OK with the idea of letting them walk, but at the prices he got them for, this is definitely for the best.

Now, let everyone else sell the farm for Santana, Cabrera, etc., and we'll just sit tight and get ready to repeat.

Let's compare - although I'm on record being willing to pay Lowell much more than he got, we got him for the next three years for $37.5 million.

That's just over 1 year salary to A-Rod for whom the Yankees are on the hook for a whopping 10 years and $275 million!

AND we didn't give up any players to address our third base needs! That's key and was something that I think was VERY much part of Theo's stratgey... hold onto those players of value to bolster starting pitching via trade.

To be exact, the price for 3 years of Lowell is equal to 1.36 years of Arod. Yeah I'd say that the Red Sox got the better deal here. :) Welcome back Mike! It's good to have that gold glove back at 3rd. And his clutch bat is not bad either. ;)
