DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION Official 2022 NFL Draft Thread: Day 3

Bill already getting commitments from the UDFA. I thought we would have one of the larger UDFA classes. I didn’t think we’d keep this many draft picks. Thought for sure we’d be trading all over the place. Anyone still think we’re gonna have a large UDFA class?

It would still make sense. The more bodies in camp, the more competition, and the more likely it is you'll find a good player in the mix.

Kind of a similar profile to Big Mike, though Onwenu is larger than Hines. LSU was a mess the last couple of years, maybe Hines can emerge like Big Mike did

I doubt Kraft feels the way about the draft that you think. He seemed more than okay giving Strange a call in the 1st.
When Kraft spoke about it last year, he was obviously trying to placate fans. That's, like, his business model.

Last year's draft had everyone ecstatic.

You think that's the reaction this year? Again, not making a value judgment here, just looking at it from on high. Buddy of mine was at the gathering - said they were booing.

However this turns out - and this is not a criticism or a complaint - it's pretty obvious now that last year's drafting philosophy was as big an anomaly as last year's FA splurge.

I truly am wondering if Kraft is fuming right now, because, given his comments, he looks kind of silly. This year is pure, old-school, IDGAF about analysts BB.
Funny, he actually looks happy in his draft room appearances. We need a new owner or these years of humiliation before Mel Kiper et al will continue forever!

Big center/guard prospect. I'm all about that in the later rounds.

I suspect we'll get some solid contributors this year. I also strongly suspect we don't have any superstars. Maybe that will be enough to add 2 wins and not fall apart in the playoffs. Maybe not. We'll see.

I like any pick from BB, this is 1st year I can remember being dissatisfied . I should be back to normal tomorrow

I absolutely believe this draft is all about 2023 and beyond. Tough, smart, high character guys. 1 bad boy in Jones to carry that edge. Preseason should be fun.

Agree in general but I'd bet that they expect those first three guys picked to contribute this year.

When's the last time a defense lined up against the Pats and saw a WR that's faster than any of the DB's? As in, "oh, we better take couple of steps farther back on this guy because we can't run with him if we are even at 20 yards." I'm looking forward to what that brings to the rest of the offense.

The running back room just got very different, and wouldn't be surprised if Harris is traded to a team with a RB deficiency and that doesn't mind paying him next year. That could bring back another player.

Pats have 71 players under contract + 11 draft picks. That leaves 8 spots to add a few more Jags.

In any draft you can only hope for 3 starters/contributors. I think we achieved that.

Didn't like Hines tape much (RG) and with superior G Hayes still on board iirc this might've been about some C versatility.

Has power & length (arms) what Pats like but not much else atm.

One of the slowest 3-cones BB ever drafted. I wonder if scouts showed him..

Fair enough. I actually like quite a few of the players. I'd have preferred to see a premium pick on an EDGE or NT, however. I still don't see any difference makers at those positions. Now, if we bring back Flowers, which I'd love to see, then I'll feel pretty good about the team going into training camp. I still think we're missing a big fatty who can stop the run, but I'll let it go.

I'd also have liked to see Dareke Young instead of Kevin Harris if they were going to go for another runner. Young can block, run, catch, etc, and he's bigger and more explosive than Harris. I did think RB was a need in this draft, and I LOVED the Strong pick, but Harris seems like the kind of UDFA, dime-a-dozen back that we see every year.

Strange, Marcus Jones, and...(Thornton or Jones?)

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if quite a few from this draft class carve out nice roles for themselves.
