OT RIP Dwayne Haskins

Incredibly sad. Heard about it from a fellow dad at a young kid's BDay party. I totally get why my Mom always warned me to look both ways crossing the street - even back when I was in my mid 30's. Then again, she never had to tell me never to cross a multilane Interstate highway.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins died early Saturday morning after he was struck by a dump truck while he was walking on a South Florida highway. Haskins was 24 years old.

Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Lt. Indiana Miranda said Haskins was pronounced dead at the scene.

"He was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 595 when there was oncoming traffic," Miranda said in an emailed statement.

No idea why anyone would try or need to cross an interstate on foot. Unless his car broke down and he was trying to get help?

very sad.

My cousin and her husband ran out of gas on a back road in Conn and he walked to get gas, never came back, they found him dead on the side of the road hours later from getting hit, the family is still not 100% over it, just a sad chain of events.

Look like there’s conflicting reports. Adam Schefter said he got out of his car for an unknown reason and was struck by another car.

He was hit by a dump truck
What looks unclear is why he was out from the car why he was walking on the highway (seems alone) and why he tried to cross the lanes

It was approx 6:40 and seems he was going to the airport

This whole thing is tragic and is just one of those things that make no sense and never should’ve happened. I have a feeling more is going to come out about this over the next month. I feel sorry for everyone involved. My sweet Uncle had his tire blow out while delivering mail about 6 years ago. Wife was also in the car. It was about 5am. He was off the road quite a bit, car jacked up, swapping the wheels when some young woman on her way to college classes was putting on her makeup while driving, didn’t see him when she swerved off the road. Something like that impacts several generations. RIP DH.

Sorry to hear about your Uncle. That must’ve been horrifying for you Aunt to witness.

I think this happens more than you'd think, unfortunately. About a decade ago a woman in Connecticut was heading to a wedding and playing around with the CD player in her car to keep her kids happy when she hit an elderly 80 year old who was getting his mail. She heard a loud thump and just kept driving. She didn't bother telling the police and made up a series of lies to the insurance company. The family of the victim told the judge to go easy on her because she was a young mother. She served no jail time.

Crazy stuff. I agree that there’s more to it, but I’m not sure it’ll ever come out, the one guy who knew whatbthe whole story is died this morning.

Things like this is why AAA is a great idea. One phone call, sit tight and it gets taken care of. I’ve had to use them once, throttle cable came lose and car no go pulling away from a toll booth. Luckily I was able to coast to a safe shoulder area. Phoned AAA, didn’t get out of the car until there was a tow truck parked behind me as a shield. Would recommend.

Curious to know BAC. Dude was used to avoiding DL rushers trying to catch him, eluding a dump truck should’ve been easy. It’s not like they’re hard to see. Unless he wasn’t trying to. It’s just too crazy, gotta figure anything might be behind it.

AAA is great, but the "Curious to know BAC. Dude was used to avoiding DL rushers trying to catch him, eluding a dump truck should’ve been easy" comment is CRINGEWORTHY. I try to believe the best about people, so perhaps it came across insensitive AF by mistake.

AAA is amazing. Bailed me out in a few terrible storms.

Schefter’s tweet was ridiculous. He should be ashamed of himself. Hopefully the explanation is he went to bed last night rip-roaring drunk.

heard it this morning....terrible....RIP young Dwayne !

So sad, didn’t realize he was so young. Have a daughter his age. Just brutal for the family, my deepest sympathy to all of them.

Why would you let your car run out of gas anyway

If he was driving to the airport, maybe he had prepaid a full tank in his rental car and was trying to get his money’s worth.
