Tom Brady: The First Ever QB, OC and GM in NFL history

Maybe not entirely but he's legitimately playing a significant part in all of it. The NFL has never seen this level of control/authority given to a player and Brady deserves to be the first. I'm pretty sure he wanted to ascend to the same position in New England but that would have led to Belichick leaving and the Krafts weren't going there.

Brady has been given control in Tampa Bay by the ownership there. This probably means Brady's signing a new contract (to be the QB) that will take him past his mid-40's. I don't think there's any doubt Arians stepped aside because he had no choice. I firmly believe his sideline confrontation with Antonio Brown was the last straw for Brady. As difficult as AB was it's apparent Brady felt he could manage the situation for the remainder of 2021 season at least. Arians denied Brady that opportunity and probably in Brady's mind also denied him another shot at a Super Bowl.

Next season Bowles is the HC in title but Brady and Leftwich probably will be coordinating the offense entirely without input from Bowles. I'm willing to bet also that Brady/Leftwich will be making all decisions while the offense is on the field. Brady's controlling the coaching staff now while having recruited the players he wanted for two years. He probably put together that trade for Mason.

If Brady wins a Super Bowl with a third HC in five seasons then it's going to be a bad look for head coaches in general. Joe Gibbs won three SBs with three different QBs but that was done over the span of a decade in a different era, still pretty impressive, this however would be a more impressive feat by Brady.

Leftwich probably lands a HC position eventually thanks to his partnership with Brady. I doubt people were thinking much of Leftwich with Winston throwing 30 picks.

Absolutely true. The thing is it's worked. Brady got them a Super Bowl and probably would have won a second if not for Brown's meltdown and Godwin's ACL. Right now they're the favorite to represent the NFC in the SB again.

Agreed on Brady's general distain for Arians laid back approach, which probably pissed him off more having Arians come in last minute with changes to the game plans that he and Leftwich had intensely worked out.

I saw a change in Brady's demeanor after the sideline fiasco with AB. Sort of reminded me of how he looked by the end of the 2019 season... somewhat dejected. Some of Brady's comments after that game seemed pointed at Arians for not having an understanding of how to deal with AB.

Brady also took a subtle shot at Belichick in the last Tom vs Time episode, which I think most people missed. Brady takes note when he thinks someone has in a way sabotaged his chances for success.

Not sure the league knew about his mom battling cancer. But agreed, that entire situation was motivation for Brady. I think he also felt like Kraft abandoned him in his fight to clear his name.

I agree. I think Brady likes Arians but he wants the leader of the team to be more than a part time coach. An ex-teammate said a few months ago on a radio show that Arians would come in at noon and it was Brady and Leftwich putting together the game plans. With the amount of time, preparation, and commitment that Brady puts in you can't really blame him for expecting the head coach to be as committed.

Brady changed their offence from the Arians chuck it deep to the one he likes and they went on to win a SB. Brady changing things have worked out pretty well for the Bucs.

Looking at this has me wondering if Brady couldn't dabble as an owner too.

All joking aside, letting Brady go is one of the few mistakes that Bob has made over the years. It was a really big mistake though and one that I'm sure he regrets now.

I always cringed when I saw Bob take the mic after a SB win and slur out "we are all world champions", even though his team represents only one region of one country in the entire world. I think it's presumptuous to consider any team in that situation of being the world's anything.

It's even worse in Balcoball in America, where they call their title series the World Series, even though when they had the only true world competition a few years ago they finished behind Japan and Korea.

Like his basketball counterpart Gene Shue, who just sadly passed away, Norm brought his intensity and demand for winning to his coaching. He hated Tarkenton's scrambling. But he did lead the Falcons to their first winning seasons.

Anyway, back to Brady vs Kraft, you know, the man who saved football. Ironically, it could be said that Brady saved football too. Imagine an NYFL world where the SB winning QB's would be spread out between all those other QBs? That would be boring as hell compared to what we ended up with in Brady.

Like a lot of others, including those crying for Michael Bishop[K-State, like Grogan!! That alone should have put him in there!!], I knew we were never going anywhere with Drew. But Drew's a good guy, and really well liked by lots of teammates, the media, and Kraft. Incredible there are still legions still mad at Belichick for not putting him back in[and thus eliminating us] in '01.

Brady, right from the outset, clearly had the attitude and work ethic to succeed. He was the anti-Drew in so many ways, it was so enjoyable - and refreshing - to see him play. TODAY I do not believe his play in '01 is understood or appreciated. To me, this guy was CLEARLY set up to succeed in the long term, even if Coleman hadn't correctly reversed the fumble call in the Snow Bowl. It was blindingly obvious. Now, Kurt Warner had come out of nowhere only a couple years earlier to lead a previous doormat all the way, but he was older, and had some superstars. Brady, even with basically no experience as a rookie, learned how to work a game. You can't credit Weis enough. I swear, if Charlie had been our OC instead of the WR coach against the Packers he could have had Drew hand the stupid ball off to future Hall of Famer Curtis Martin at least 25 times and we could have won that game in '97.

Anyway, the Patriots were appointment viewing from the second Brady started. I believed we had the advantage at the quarterback position in every game he started for us, never mind who was on the other team. Yup, I'm a homer, but it's still true.

As for Robert, what he did - purchasing the land and the stadium lease, hanging onto it, taking a huge chance and buying out Orthwein, making the Hartford sweet deal that got the league and the legislature to wake up and do something to keep the team here, demanding nothing less than winning, hiring Belichick who was[and still is]considered toxic to legions in the media and the league - along with his genuine philanthropy and {private} consideration for former players, seems like it should make up for retaining the worst logo and uniform in history which insultingly replaced the best which was established for over three decades, actively going right along with resentful media, bitter opponents and the league in denigrating, dismissing, ignoring and outright denying all the success and great players and fan support prior to his ownership, and rolling over for the subsequent three (so far) FakeGates with three stolen top draft picks...

But for me, it doesn't.

A franchise, a team is defined by its players and fans: the ups and downs, the highs and lows, the trials and travails, the laughter and the tears, the good times and the bad times. Winning a Super Bowl is supposed to be the culmination of this relationship, the pinnacle of this commitment, a celebration of the investment and sacrifice of years together, usually with the same logo and uniform. A Super Bowl title is not the be-all and end-all of a football team's existence. All the local philanthropy and activity by Robert Kraft is admirable; However, his complicity with media, opponent and league denigration, dismissal, ignorance and denial of the Patriots' success and players' accomplishments on and off the field in the 34 years prior to his purchase has empowered and enabled the very same treatment during his ownership.
