So far FA is going as expected for the Pats. I fully expected JC to be gone. Disappointed we couldn't keep Karras.
But BB has brought back the important pieces we value (DMac, Folk, White, Hoyer, Ferentz), and let go of some old/useless ones (Wino, Collins, King, Langi). And the first new import, Wilson, is exactly what we need - new mobile ILBs.
Only essential left to bring back - Meyers.
Next "likes" to bring back - Bentley, Jakob, Bolden (cheap insurance), Gunner (since Berrios signed with Jets).
Unsure - HT, T. Brown (too expensive for the reliability)
Langi was re-signed 2 months ago. Pay attention for a change.

Every time I peak my head up and check the news, the Pats have lost another big piece. Signing any splash WR or wanting to improve our promising RB game is useless if we're depleting the OL from the most consistent guys we have. Remember Onwenu was NOT good at LG, will he be better at RG? Then what's the plan?? Sherman, Cajuste and Herron? Yikes.
You're not paying attention. Onwenu was actually good at LG. Both as a rookie and as a 2nd year player. They moved him to RT because none of Herron, Cajuste, or Durant could play there worth a damn.
Bringing in Collins at LT would be a big move - both in FA money and the OL. Assuming Wynn can suddenly move in to LG is still a gamble, not only for the position change but relying on his consistency regarding injuries. But, it'd be a big step up too.
I think 1 more top-level OL talent will suffice. whether Collins or Brown - we could probably make Onwenu and one of the newer guys like Sherman, Desjarlias work at the other G spot. So either:
Collins - Wynn - Andrews - Onwenu/Sherman - Herron/Onwenu OR
Wynn/Herron - Sherman/Wynn - Andrews - Onwenu - Brown

And this is before any potential draftee.
Yes.. We're gonna put Collins at LT. A position he's NEVER PLAYED AT in the NFL.. He played LG and RT. Then you whine about it being a gamble on moving Wynn inside?

You really need to do some semblance of research on the topic you're posting about so you don't look completely foolish.

If I remember right, Onwenu’s difficulties (though he was still mostly fine) at LG seemed to have a lot to do with being on the left of the line versus being used to being on the right when he was the RT. Possibly going to RG would be simpler for him since it’s still on the right?

IMO - they should pay Brown. Yes he’s had injury issues but so has Wynn and Wynn’s contract is due next year, and Wynn does not measure up to Brown. Pay Brown and make him your LT for the next couple years at least, trade for Collins to be your RT, make Onwenu your Mason replacement and figure out LG, maybe give Wynn a try and if he doesn’t work out then you trade him at the deadline or you just keep him as a reserve LT for the year (though an expensive one). Then you can focus on WRs, DBs and defensive line in the draft.

Onwenu played LG, RG, and RT as a Rookie.

LG - 112 snaps - 3 pressures, 3 hurries
RG - 185 snaps - 1 hurry, 1 pressure
RT - 616 snaps - 3 sacks, 5 hurries., 8 pressures.

Note: He played multiple positions against Denver, LAC, and Buffalo. I didn't have time to do a deep dive into what he gave up where in those games.

Sophomore: LG/RT
LG: 290 snaps - 2 sacks, 2 hits, 3 hurries, 7 pressures
RT: 276 snaps - 2 hits, 2 hurries,. 4 pressures.

I think the biggest problem that Onwenu has is that the Pats haven't kept him at one spot. His first "bad" game at LG last season was against TB. Then he was mediocre against the Chargers while playing RT. He then ended the season with a bad game run-blocking against Jax when he saw 30 snaps back at LG. He saw 10 snaps at LG against Miami and his pass blocking was trash that game.

His most snaps have been at RT. His least at RG.

Total:
LG - 402 snaps - 2 sacks, 2 hits, 6 hurries, 10 pressures.
RT - 892 snaps - 3 sacks, 2 hits, 7 hurries, 12 pressures.

I said it before and will say it again. Stick him at a position and leave him there. With Mason gone, you need to build around Onwenu and Andrews. But they need something more than Patricia/Yates for the O-Line Coaching.. Without that, then it won't matter who they have for players. Patricia = Gugs PT 2, imho.

Pretty bummed they let Karras go, and all he got was 3/18....
The writing was on the wall for that. I said it at the end of the SB that Karras was gone and likely to Cincy because their Guards were horrible.
Pats need to rebuild the O-line and it's going to be built around Onwenu and others. Not Karras. 6M is a lot of cap space.

Do you think we pick up a receiver or draft one?

or Both?

I didn't realize Danny Amendola is an UFA. He's 36 so I can see Bill having interest.

Bill: Hello Danny?
DA: Coach?
Bill: Yea, we're interested in bringing you in & giving you that contract you always cried about.
DA: OK? What's that Coach.
Bill: 3 years, 30M w/ 20M fully guaranteed.
DA: For real Coach?
Bill: Yea
DA: Wait.
Bill: What?
DA: Is that in dollars Coach?
Bill: Rubles.
DA: @$#^&*!;%#

No thanks to TY Hilton he's too old wouldn't mind Landry. Our Offense needs Speed other than the RB's on Big run none of our WR's can beat a Team on one play we are too slow on Offense. With our current Receivers Safeties can play in the box which makes it difficult for our RB's t operate. Need a wude out who can open things up downfield.

Good chance that this guy is just throwing sh*t against a wall and/or re-reporting what others have tweeted. I don’t doubt that they are interested in Robinson but if you believe his Twitter feed, you would think that he is one of the most plugged-in guys around.

Claims to know what a lot of teams are up to in FA. I call bullsh*t that he has that many real sources.

Longer road ahead to get back to last years results let alone a SB. I admit it, we got alot of areas to improve on this team. Feels like we are loosing more blood and will bleed out soon if we don't get stitched up.

I don’t think Allen Robinson is good enough for the $ he’s going to get.

The question is whether he will get what he wants to get. Other than the Jags grossly overpaying for Kirk (and the Chargers overpaying for Williams), this year is starting to shape up like last year with WRs that no one is willing to pay for them in free agency. We already have seen DJ Chark give up on getting a long term deal and take an one year prove it deal with the Lions.

With the legal tampering period coming to an end today and the biggest WR free agents still unsigned (Robinson, Landry), I am guessing the WR market is going to come down like it did last year for the same reason. Will it drop to a level that the Pats will jump? Who knows? I can't see Robinson and Landry doing what most of the WRs did last year and settle on an one year deal and hope next year's free agency will be more favorable to them.

One thing really working against WRs now is that the draft is continually producing great WR prospects. That is supposed to be the strongest position in the draft this year and it has been up there the last two or three years.

Except we always pick the bad apples of the wr prospects.

More than likely. And in the realm of "throwing sh*t against the wall", claiming a team has a ton of interest in arguably the best WR on the market isn't exactly putting your d*ck in the pickle slicer.

This is what we need to do...have to get the approval from Kraft which might be an issue:

We need to do this to sign 3-5 quality starters or we won’t be contending for the playoffs is my projection

pats have a history of making a move and doing a restructure more or less at the same time.....you don't usually see them clear a bunch of space in advance, more as an as needed move

did marcus cannon get discussed.....basically has missed 1.5 of the last 2 seasons......he's old.....but think they give him a look asa camp vet at the minimum?

I think the reports that the Pats have "a ton of interest in Allen Robinson and Jarvis Landry" and that the Pats "are laying in the weeds, kicking the tires on guys but telling them to come back if they don't find the big offer they're seeking elsewhere" go hand-in-hand here. They want Robinson/Landry but don't want to pay big bucks. When those guys don't find the big bucks they can circle back to NE who can say "listen, your APY will be lower than what you wanted but you'll get a decent amount of total overall money." Considering the way this free agency is going, it seems like the Pats are taking a wise approach.
