Questions:

If JCJ signs the FT tender…and we trade him to another team…

a.) Can we trade him for LESS than two first rounders?

b.) Can his new team give him a long term deal? Or are they on the hook once JCJ signs the tender?

The Pats can trade him for whatever they want and/or another team is willing to give up.

As long as it is before July 15, the acquiring team can sign him to another deal.

Sorry guys, but this "lockdown CB" you speak of is a unicorn. It doesn't exist in today's NFL. This board has not given up in finding flaws in Jackson's game so he doesn't get priced out of the Pats market.

Again, it may not happen. Hell, the Pats could agree to a deal with him before the franchise deadline for all we know. But it isn't ridiculous to think he could net a first rounder.
If he's not worth a 1st rd pick. Then he isn't worth the contract he will ask for. And he's not the player some on here think he is.

It doesn't matter what any of us think. It is what GMs around the league think and some of them don't do much more research than look at the stat sheets.

If I thought he was worth a first round pick and a top CB contract, I would want the Pats to re-sign him at all costs and not entertain any tag and trade talk. But my opinion of Jackson means nothing to his market among the league.

But we watch every game he played. I don't know if GMs even do that in some cases.

Of Jackson's 25 interceptions, all but 4 have come at the expense of Ryan Tannehill, Mitch Trubisky, pre-2020 Josh Allen, Andy Dalton, Ryan Finley, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Drew Lock, Jimmy Garoppolo, Joe Flacco, Tua Tagovialoa, Sam Darnold, Zack Wilson, Mike White, late career Matt Ryan and Trevor Lawrence,

Less impressive when you look at it that way

A shutdown corner doesn’t get lit up like a Christmas tree when he goes against top tier talent.
He is a good number 2.
Not a shutdown corner.

You definitely have a point in that there really aren't any Revis' in the league anymore. Gilmore was pretty damn close to it in 2019, though admittedly that was one year (and while he's been good outside of that year, guys like Revis sustained it more).

But the question to me is not whether JC is a #1 (he is, by today's standards), it's whether a #1 corner is worth what the market will pay him IF it means you have to go another season with Myles Bryant and JJ Williams as your options for nickel CB. Having a guy you can put on an island against the other team's #1 WR is a nice thing to have, but you can scheme against one player. Where teams killed us, especially Buffalo, was in their 3rd/4th targets because we lacked depth in the secondary. If you can resign Jackson AND improve the depth, that's the ideal path forward. I just have a hard time seeing how they do that right now.

Stop it! It wasn't the offenses fault the defense totally collapsed. The defense gave Allen time to eat a sandwich in the pocket and they were converting so many first and second downs that they barely even had to convert third downs in either game.
Yes, lets blame Jackson and the defense because MACaroni arm and the offense could not score points or at least stay on the field long enough for the defense to get a break. 3 INTs and 2 fumbles with QB ratings of 31.4 and 75.8 in the Buffalo losses.

MACaroni cant win from behind as it is and you want to blow up the pass defense.

Agree - not a shutdown corner.

Disagree - not a #2 corner.

I will say he’s a 10 mill a year guy.
However if we are paying Nelson 15 mill how can we not pay JC the same or more?
I am on record to say that Agholar signing was one of our worst free agency moves.
I really hope he proves me wrong.

JC Jackson hasn’t allowed 100+ yards in a game in his career. Ramsey allowed 100+ yards in back to back playoff games.

I think most of it stems from Diggs having Jackson’s number & people ignore his work on Evans, Williams, Moore, Pittman, etc.

He’s great at defending anyone who is not a burner.
I don’t understand why we continued to leave him on a island against burners.
I know rolling a safety to that side opens up other threats especially in the Buff games.
I feel like the game plan and execution, effort on the field was pitiful.
Judon had to be more injured than assumed. We had zero threat of a pass rush and our secondary was no match for the depth of the Buff pass catchers and Allen’s arm strength and velocity to make them pay.
I honestly can’t remember a game where we never had a chance such as those 2 buff games.

So people our souring on him because he wants to get paid, just like every single NFL player? Cant afford to let him walk unless he's replaced with someone who is as good or better than him.

Agreed. With the emergence of Gabe Davis the pats could put JC on him & bracket Diggs if they can upgrade CB2 in the draft.

JC’s also covered Diggs when the front seven has been dominated. Barmore in his 2nd year with Judon healthy is a start.

Is there a shutdown corner in the NFL right now? If we gave up a number 1 for Cooks a few years ago, I would think JC's value has to be close to that....

Starting in 1998, Ty Law was was regarded as one of the best CB’s in the game along with Sam Madison.

However, this board wants to forget he had games where he got beat badly against WR’s in the AFC East in 1998 and 1999. Granted, the competition was way better, but the board acts like he was never beat. He also struggled in Bill’s first year in 2000 and 2002. Point is, CB’s get beat on occasion and Jackson plays in a league where it’s much easier for WR’s to get open and make plays.

Jackson is the most intriguing FA this offseason. I thought teams would chomp at the bit to get him last season, but only heard crickets.

the defense got torched from minute one all the way through that game. tehy allowed an average of 9yds per play and i think the bills had 1 3rd down if i recall correctly. The offense wasn't great but lets not get it skewed. The defense sucked from minute one and massively.
