Howe has not got confirmation from Brady’s camp so he reports what he knows through his due diligence. Tom wanted to probably break it after the SB. Mole in his camp leaked it to Schefter blowing up that idea.
My guess is Brady’s camp and Tampa are now drafting up a farewell letter or video to release soon because by Tom trying to wait this out would totally take over NFL news right up to the SB. Overshadowing the SB. That is not Tom’s nature

I wouldn't be concerned about this retirement butting heads with the playoffs (or vice versa) news-wise. There's ample room for both in the news cycle; in fact, they might complement one another. With the Bucs' season over it's important for them to set things in motion for next season and it all hinges on Tom.

No, I'd have to respectfully disagree. Reiss does what he wants within the guidelines of his job. If he wants to do it and it's outside of that, he simply won't. He's posted entire columns on Twitter that didn't appear on their site, and his integrity and commitment to doing the right thing always trumps everything else.
