Semi-OT: Brady to Retire? (UPDATE: RETIRED)

Status
Not open for further replies.
I'm wondering if Brady's primary consideration on retiring or playing in '22 is who the Bucs have coming back (both players and coaches). I don't think he would like answering directly to Arians if Leftwich leaves, but then Tom's return essentially would ensure winning the division regardless.
This is exactly what I was telling wifey tonight…

Brady needs to sit down with Licht to see what their FA and draft plans are…. If Brady is coming back to a Bucs team without some of the vets they have on short deals and likely with Godwin’s situation up in the air…

If the Niners move on from Jimmy after a disastrous NFC title game and Lance isn’t ready yet….

The Broncos could be a landing spot….

Hell, if he retires…and Mac blows out his ACL in week next year….wouldn’t BB give him a call? Payton did at least call Brees…..

Brady wants to compete…his greatest fear is waking up in 12 months and watching the NFL playoffs on TV and seeing QB’s doing dumb ****…

If Brady can have some horses…I think he sticks around …

So depressing to think this but I'm not sure that Brady wants to retire a patriot. I hope I am wrong as I would love to see him sign the one day deal but I think he also respects the bucs for what they did for him at the end of his career.

Whether he retires, whether or not he does the "one day contract" thing with the Pats, it really doesn't matter. Tom Brady will always be a New England Patriot. Anyone who says otherwise is a moron.

If @amfootball is serious about recovery and leading a life free of Brady Infatuation Syndrome (BIS), he can join a support group. I heard that Jim Gray is organizing online virtual chapter meetings nationwide. The organization will be called Brady Infatuation Syndrome Survivors Anonymous (BISSA). Membership dues are $1k monthly and include a case of avocado-flavored concussion water.

I told yall last offseason that Brady was done winning super bowls.

Its over. Focus on the TB12 juicer.

Maybe waiting until after the Super Bowl to announce something. Ya' know, there are 4 other teams still in the news. I thought it odd that Ben did that this week but he isn't as newsworthy as TB, plus they had that bridge collapse yesterday.....

I was blasted on this site for saying Brady struggled this season in Tampa.

The guy had great numbers. But I watched every game of his, and it was a struggle. He wasn't in sync with the Tampa receivers. Very late in the season, he and Godwin started clicking, after AB's whole vaxx card thing came down. But before that it was a struggle. I mostly blamed the playcalling and gameplan. Things were not good.

But Brady too was throwing flatfooted too often. His arm seemed as strong as ever when he stepped into a throw. But there was something in his tight hips when he didn't have time.

I predicted this was his last year. I could certainly see what was going on.

I'm amazed he put up MVP numbers when this Tampa team clearly had problems on offense.

I am telling you they really struggled against the Jets, it wasn't a fluke, they had a great record, but they fought and clawed for it all year.

I think the Rams are patting themselves on the back for dethroning the champs, but those were not last year's Bucs, even with Godwin.

I don't know about his mechanics, but the Bucs' opponents had a combined record of 114-124. Most of Brady's touchdowns were against the panthers, jete, bears, giants, atlanta, miami, philly, etc.

If he couldn't go out with a SB this was the second best way to go out. Coming so close to yet another epic comeback. I could see this game being in his retirement documentary in a big way. Going out like the GOAT he is.
Back in the 1970s, that game would’ve been been celebrated in typical NFL Films glory. I could hear John Facenda narrating it and saying something like, “The great old warrior had one last brilliant comeback up his sleeve.” With rapid fire highlights of throws and TD plays to tie it, and classic 1970’s NFL Films music to accompany it.

All the signs are there. He released Man in the Arena this year which something you do at the end of a career. He just bought a home in Miami which would likely be more of a winter home for them. There was retirement talk about him for the first time. He refused answer retirement questions rather than outright dismiss them in his post game press conference last week. Brady, in the past, always talked about playing to 45 or longer and dismissed retirement talk.

If he does... and i didnt think this possible yet... hes only 44, not 45... I hope the bucs release him so he can sign a one day contract in New England.
He will be 45 at the start of the 2022 season. If 45 is still the age he wants to hang them up, it’s very conceivable that he calls it a career.

I just hope if Tom does retire, Bill will use him as a consultant in some capacity.

I think Brady is going to walk away from the game all together when he leaves. He might do media related things with the NFL, but he will not set foot on a practice field ever again. He just launched a clothing line and he has TB12. I think he will enter a phase where he will be focusing on being a brand rather than a football figure.

Take it for what it is worth considering the source, but Brady’s long time assistant, Ben Rawitz, is reportedly interviewing with other QBs for the same position with them.

Speak for yourself. I know that you and many others here who only knew Brady as the Patriots quarterback (until 2020) hero worship him, but many here who were die-hard Pats fans long before Brady arrived do not feel the same way. We thank him for all of the incredible memories and appreciate his greatness but we moved on once he left. Frankly, considering any pro athlete a hero is kind of absurd.

It will be interesting to see how many posters here disappear if/once Brady retires.
You’re such a better Pats fan than everyone else. So hardcore.

Brady was the least of the Bucs problems. The Bucs were the highest scoring offense in football. It was all on the defensive side of the football, sure they showed up in the second half of the Rams game, but in typical Bucs fashion (in 2021, not true in 2020), this defense choked that game away when it mattered most.

But I agree with you, something seemed off with this Bucs team. You can’t tell by the record, Went 6-2 in the first half of the season, had their bye, and then went 7-2 in the 2nd half. But the injuries caught up with them. Losing Godwin was a crushing blow. It was like losing Edelman in 2017 for Brady. And like in 2017, the defense was the reason why Brady wasn’t a champion this year.

It’s so bizarre, but every year since 2014, the odd years , 2015, 2017, 2019 & 2021 were years of losing key players to injury or suspension (Gordon) or stupidity (Brown being lost the the Pats in 2019 & Bucs in 2021). And those years, obviously didn’t end well for Brady, though through no fault of his own. The only year Brady overcame was in 2016 after losing Gronk for the 2nd half of 2016. But he had a pretty key TE in his place in Matellus Bennett.

Throwing in my two cents. I think he just may leave.
I think with Tom his legacy is important. He left NE and went to a stacked team and won a SB and had a second good year with a great 27-3 comeback in his final game. He proved he can leave BB and still be successful.
With the good amount of FA’s most likely leaving next year and a suspect coach with the Bucs up against the cap this most likely will not be a stacked team next year. They will be good but not stacked. With a coach like BA, that will not be enough to win.
BB could win with less talent because he is prepared for everything which will win some games that should have been lost. BA is not that guy (Cooper Kupp) proved that.
If Tom stays another year and has a mediocre season then it will again come back to Brady needed BB.
Brady seemed not happy late in the season, and the whole AB thing didn’t help. Then to come back in that game like he did and have the guy you should be triple teaming catch 2 long passes to end the game might have been the icing.
He can still go up on top leaving now.
Just my opinion but I’m usually wrong

The big question is when will the people on this board who claimed they were done with the NFL once Brady retires announce their retirement?
