Flores fired

In a Fins forum (take with a grain of salt i guess)...

"
So a few things I can confirm (and I don't put this out lightly)

1)Flores lost the support of Dan Marino.

2)Dan has the ear of not only Steven Ross but Bruce Beal who has already been approved by the NFL to be Ross's successor as our owner. Beal has been at more games than normal this year and I expect him to take majority confirm control soon.

3)The top 3 supporters of Tua in the organization are Dan, Beal, and Grier.

4)Flo's handling of the offensive staff especially the last 2 years confused and frustrated a lot of people.

5)Flo was loved by defensive players, offensive players were hit and miss. "

Everything I read in this thread points to a potentially good/great coach who needs/needed a little more grooming.

Flores wasn't ready yet. Miami knew this when they grabbed him.

Flores would be best off finding a situation like Todd Bowles has where he would receive credit for the teams defense.

If he comes here, it will still be Bill.

We know where the knife in the back came from...

I've always said it was real dumb for Flores to go to Miami, and that it would be a matter of time before he got fired.

But I was wrong in that I thought that move would stop him from getting another HC job, so good for him.

So it was the head coach's fault that the GM put together an offensive line that was the worst, or close to worst in the NFL - which resulted in his starting QB getting hurt (and setting off the losing streak)?

If the GM/HC weren't on the same page, then that's on the owner.

Had Miami won one more game does Flores still get fired? The GM/HC conflict would still have been the same.

an absolutely shocking move... I feel bad for BFlo... he deserved better

I thought he was a good coach... on the upwards side of the learning curve... learned how to deal with adversity, injuries, etc, and was able to get his team focused and playing hard... despite little to no help from the front office

He will get another job... just glad there are no openings in the afce for him to fill...

Probably. Ross has coveted Harbaugh for a while.

lol... he's more than ready to be a HC, he turned a 0-7 **** roster into a 5-11 finish his first season, went 10-6 his second year with two ****ty QB's, Tua only going 6-3 because there was nothing on him on tape.

Then this season, turning a 1-7 start into a WINNING season.

That's elite HC'ing.

I wouldn't criticize anyone for taking a HC job. It's great money and prestige, typically it's generational wealth that you won't get by staying a coordinator. No way to predict if you're getting another offer even if you think your star is on the rise. Even if you know the ownership situation is a challenge, chances are that you're better off taking the job and dealing with whatever it entails vs waiting around for the "ideal" situation.

Steven Ross says he will not hire Harbaugh away from Michigan. It would be a stupid PR move since the Business and Medical schools at U of M bear his name and he's an alum...

Just a crazy thought. Bill picks up the phone and offers the Patriots HC position to Florio.

Bill will retire from coaching to become Patriots GM. You heard it here first, folks.

About as crazy when Bill took the job 22 years ago.

Mike Florio would sure be an unorthodox choice for a coach but I think it just might work.

We don't really know what went on between HC and GM -- did Flo argue in favor of OL and not defenders?

Good luck blaming the owner, he's the one signing the checks. Part of Flo's job is getting along with the GM, like it or not.

From what we read, the decision was made a while ago.

He's been through multiple offensive coordinators and still hadn't settled on anyone. The team goes hot/cold more than a well coached team should. And even if he's right, Flores is at odds with his GM and QB.

It's not just wins and losses. Miami has a ton of talent.

I think Miami should have committed more to Flores once hired. But BF didn't do the best job of managing the situation he was in.

Like Bill learned with the press in Cleveland, all of this is part of being a head coach. Flores should be more ready next time.

I wonder if Carolina will be in play for Brian ?

The owner has a stiffy for Watson

This is a bit shocking- if he does not get any other offers the Pats need to bring him back ASAP. Could we hire him this week as a consultant like we did with Josh I believe after his stint at Denver ? It could be a huge boost for the defense !

Is this a joke? Flores and his agent are on the phones getting another head coaching gig right this second.

Yes, I was joking. It would be great having him in charge of the D instead of Stevie….but I know that it is not at all realistic.

I always thought Flores did very well considering he never had a QB
