Noticed this on Twitter but haven't started looking back through film yet. This was in the Colts game where Mac audibled and you can see the defender signal that a toss is coming - and then it gets blown up. Wonder how many more times this may have happened where there's a tell in the call and whether or not they need to change things up, but I feel like we've seen more tackles for a loss this season compared to years past:

time to change the verbiage?

You know they are out there, watching the broadcasts / getting the on field audio from our games... syncing this stuff up...

and seriously @Ian can you please preemptively ban DKM from this thread before it becomes yet another anti-McD screed?

I won't ban him - but @DropKickFlutie - you know the deal, try and keep yourself from going down the rabbit hole in this one ;)

This is a great point and would be important to fix so that Mac has the right tools to make adjustments that benefit the team.

And no worries, I know pape is a snowflake who loves NKeal Harry and can't handle any criticisms of the team. No need to discuss here.

This reminds me, didn't the Dolphins also figure out Brady's verbiage at the line a couple years ago. Wonder if that was ever fixed.

It could either be the verbiage or the fact that they’ve limited the playbook for Mac, so we are essentially running the same plays over and over and over again. The latter would be easy to pick up on film review.

that particular play was at the beginning of the second quarter, and I do not believe we had run that play/audible in the first, its quite possible they were already looking for it ... something they picked up in game prep... wish i had the nfl films subscription, be interesting to look for this thread thru past games...

yup... agreed to an extent... same audible/personal groups it seems. Can only go to the well so many times.

I noticed the Bills LBs doing the same motioning during Sunday's game.

QBs are used to switching up verbiage as early as high school. So if they haven't asked him to, shame on them. Running the same plays over and over is likely as well. You can run the same play out of different formations to get different looks out of the D. Probing to see what the defense will do under certain situations.

I would certainly think and expect them to have a simpler version of the offense with a rookie QB, not matter how good he might have looked earlier in the year. I would also think they won't ask him to do things that other vet QBs can do, regardless of their GOAT status or not. These things are all very difficult for us to pick up at on on TV. Even on the all-22s, we don't know the design and reads that these guys key on. The coaches in the NFL would know this, however, and would be able to coach up defenders to defeat certain looks. The Patriots '01-'19 made their bones doing exactly that, tedious film study and Ernie Adams calling out tendencies. Now we have a rookie, and no Ernie. Meanwhile, other teams could have caught up.

I think, from my leather ez-chair, he's looked like a rookie as the games have gotten a little bit tougher. It has tempered my expectations of not only him but of them for the 2021 season.

aye, but none have looked too big for him.

There will be growing pains... and if this issue is a sign, then soon, hopefully, he will learn to exploit that...

Imaging using a fake audible on this scenario... get the D to change up and do the unexpected...

In the Superbowl 49 man in the arena Sherman was the guest and basically said that he knew what we were doing and Brady knew what they were doing. Those are two very cerebral vets but even still I generally feel like most plays go down like this.

Line up and try to disguise either on offense or defense and then the opposition tries to figure it out can they do it pre snap and with enough time to alert everyone. This is why TB usually calls out a check rather snapping it when he gets someone to jump.

No, they haven't been too big. I would like to see him step up a bit more. Take the game over a bit.

Every offense has tendencies. The film on 3rd down and short with that personnel is probably minimal so I think personnel and alignment, plus down and distance helped Leonard guess right.

I hope this is true, because it is something that can be coached out of Mac,

.

Rather than the verbiage of the audible, it could have been a timing/situation call. That is, an audible with this personnel grouping when we show this D usually means a change to a toss play / outside run.
