Fingers-crossed KB gets a few negative tests between now and Sunday. He has been a treat to watch play - electric with the ball in his hands.

It is one test now and it isn't even a negative test anymore. It just has to be the virus has to be below a certain level (don't ask me to explain because it is over my head) because they believe that it has a lower risk of spreading at that level.

Patsies better ****ing hope for another hurricane-force windy day on Sunday, because without any ****ing WRs that’s the ONLY ****ing way they have even a ****ing glimmer of hope of defeating the Billdos again.

God Hates Us Patsfans All.

do i sense a lack of questioning GHUPA authority?

-.-

In general, viral load (the # of viral particles in your blood) has a pretty good correlation with having symptoms and being able to spread a virus.

I'm not one of the forum scientists (we have plenty of those already), but if it's true that the Omicron strain is much more contagious than the previous variants, it would seem that the viral loads would be higher & last longer regardless of the symptoms. I don't know.

The only player I have seen be placed and then removed from the list in less than a week is TJ Watt, who tested positive on a Monday and got his second negative on a Saturday. That was earlier this month before the rules changed, so hopefully KB will be good to go.

Still concerned that JJ Taylor has been on the list for 3+ weeks.

NFL still tests. But it is now easier for Bourne to return. Odds are good we can play Meyers and Bourne.

Meyers and Bourne with a 2 TE offense would be a good set up against the Bills, especially if Harris is available.

But I don’t think they test or measure that

Not necessarily. It could be that for some reason it’s better at grabbing a foothold given the same viral load. Maybe the spike protein is modified somehow. That could also affect the efficacy of vaccination. There’s a lot we don’t know about omicron yet.

I read this on the spike protein mutations from CR. But yea, they don't know enough yet.

"But sometimes, a virus acquires a set of mutations that makes it more likely to spread. Increased transmissibility can make these variants—a word used to define a virus with a particular set of mutations—dominate in a certain region or even around the world, as happened with Delta. This can happen if the new variant creates a higher viral load, increasing the chances that contagious particles make it to another person. It can also happen if the new variant is better able to evade the immune system protection provided by prior infection or vaccination, which could help it spread among people who would otherwise be protected.

Omicron has far more changes to the spike protein—the portion of the virus that infects human cells—than any of the previous concerning variants, according to Poland. For example, the Alpha variant had four mutations to the spike protein, Delta had 10, and Omicron has at least 30.

Some of Omicron’s mutations are likely responsible for its rapid spread, either by making it more transmissible overall or by making it better at evading protection due to vaccination or prior infection. But scientists still have far more to learn about how the mutations found in Omicron affect its virulence or transmissibility."

Von Miller and five other Rams players were just activated off the COVID list after being on it for only five days. A few weeks ago, TJ Watt was only on for five days. So there is a chance that Bourne could be off it by Sunday.

They do, albeit indirectly. The PCR test duplicates DNA, and needs a certain number of molecules to produce a signal; the more virus in the sample, the sooner that threshold is crossed.

Data isn't clear yet on viral load but some Hong Kong studies released 4 days ago indicate a clear difference in what parts of your respiratory system is affected by omicron, relative to delta.

Omicron tends to more affect cells in the upper respiratory tract instead of the lower respiratory tract, leading to infected people breathing out more particles but also perhaps leading to less severe effects. Specifically, omicron, over the first 24 hours, multiplies about 70 times faster inside upper respiratory-tract tissue than the Delta variant, but it also multiplies more slowly in the lungs.

What parts of you airways are infected greatly changes the basic physics of how it is spread. Upper respiratory infections tend to produce aerosols rather than large droplets. These much smaller droplets travel further and dissipate more slowly. Masks will still impede their transmission, but the 6-foot safe zone idea, formulated for large droplet-based spread, is pretty much irrelevant, it seems.

But this is just an early read on it.

I'm sure the NFL will pick up the pace of getting players off the list. I was surprised Baker Mayfield wasn't removed before yesterday's game, since he made sure to say he had no symptoms and was feeling fine last week.

The Chiefs just added Tyreek Hill to the COVID list. The odds of both them coming back by Sunday is lower than the Pats hoping Bourne coming back. The Pats may have a shot to take back the #1 seed on Sunday.

My guess is that they made this change - level of infection - as a nod to vaccinated players. Yes, the load CAN BE as heavy, but for a much shorter window of time in someone who is vaccinated...a couple of days, maybe.
