4 games in (EDIT Now HALF)/, let's talk spending spree (SUPER EDIT Regular season ending extravaganza)

When do we see these new tight ends play again?

These aren't my evaluations of the players straight up, but rather my evaluations of how they've justified the new contracts:

Underpaid: Judon, Karras
Seems about right: Bourne, Mills, Van Noy
Minor overpay: Henry, Godchaux, Anderson
Comical overpay: Agholor, Smith

This isn't to say even Agholor or Smith are lost causes. In camp, reports were that Agholor looked like our best WR at times, and I certainly liked what I saw from Smith over Henry before the real games were played (after which my opinion turned around completely).

I think some people will take offense that I placed Henry in one of the "overpaid" tiers. I just don't think 600 yards and 10 TD (roughly his full season projection), without elite blocking ability, is worth $12.5M/year.

Judon's not underpaid; he's About Right.

Bourne & KVN are minor over-pays.

Mills, Godsmack, Agholor & Smith are ALL Comical Over-pays.

EDIT: Before the Final game of the season tonight, here are my up-dated evaluations:

Slightly Under-paid: Bourne

Seems about right: Double-H, Judon, Karras

Slightly Over-paid: KVN, Anderson

Comically Over-paid: Godsmack, Jalen Greenhead Mills, JonNo Smith, Whoa Nellie Agholor.

Judon has been one helluva surprise for me. Was hoping for at best a Ninko kinda guy. Damn has he been something else.

KVN has been a disappointment for me. Was hoping he’d come in with a fire lit under his ass. Instead he looks slow.

Mills (IMHO) is not being used the way Bill had intended.

Godchaux has been a big let down for me. I know you were *****ing about this move from day 1, but I was reading some other things that made me hopeful. Whelp. You win brother.

I just keep telling myself that Bourne, Agholor, and Smith are struggling along with the rest of the offense and am hopeful that as the line stabilizes and they get more experience the back half of this year and the rest of their contract.

Godchaux has been playing well the last 6 games, hence our run defense has been much improved, I think people dismiss him because he's not a sack guy, but he's come in and done what he's supposed to do, "stop the run".
Asking fans to correctly value how well a A/B gap defender plays can lead to misunderstandings of their actual role.

I'm not really sure what fans had for an expectation for God.

Not all D-lineman have the impact like Barmore.

God has played over 50% of the defensive snaps.

If he was getting consistently blown off the ball he'd be playing much less if not at all.

Hes been more than fine.

From the NFL stat site......

Jonnu Smith at Tennessee in 2020 , 15 games , 41 receptions , 448 yards and 8 touchdowns
Jonnu Smith at Patriots in 2021 so far , 9 games , 21 receptions , 193 yards and 1 touchdown

So in 2021 , is this how he is being used or has he gone backwards in performance ?

He is NOT being used. Waste of $ when the oc has no clue how to use 2 TEs.

Been beating the drum that instead of blaming cam, instead of getting a fancy receiver.... need to replace HT when he decides he’s ready to go. Or his play does.

The sb teams all had excellent linebackers. Ppl say Bill wants his old school slow thumper type and that’s supposed to be outdated... but the man knows his defense. If that’s what he wants, go find one.

been on this since ‘19. We could’ve traded the goat for a haul securing lb, a qb, an interim qb till we get that qb...

but I digress.

just wanna see a good defense as a foundation. 2011. Lost so all the season success, all the Brady... meant nothing. Only pats fans will even know what they did. We have a defensive coach. Let’s take advantage of his skills while we still have one goat left!

I thought that he was underused years ago, but never believed that he could become as big a part of the offense as he has, particularly in his 30's
In the same manner "bell cow" backs especially break down over thirty, would it be just crazy to think that backups, who are not pounded on over years of play, might have on average a better chance at longer shelf life?

Whatever Godchaux makes he's overpaid. Jonnu is looking more and more like a bust and Agholor was overpaid the minute the ink dried on that contract.
So what numbers must those players have exactly at those price points?

Sorry Ashley, unless he came in and had 46 TFL and 12 sacks by this point in the season - he's a bust dontcha know?

I mean that's exactly what is asked for in this defense of its interior linemen, they don't have to learn gap discipline, adjust to new teammates, occupy blockers so others can make plays - they have to rack up statistics or they're human excrement.

And the improved run defense shown in the last couple games where they've schemed to address the run versus the pass? All Judon. 100%. No one else is worth the money outlaid this offseason - he's doing it all, all by himself - in fact, hasn't he been the only one on the field a lot of snaps? It's just when they deem to bring in the other guys that teams do well.

I never expected TFLs & sacks from Godsmack... I just expected the interior of our DL to not be a complete sieve, especially at the ridiculous money he's being paid... Nick Chubb (remember him, Billy?) is licking his chops...

I know you're a member of the little sunshine and rainbows all the time group but Godchaux hasn't been terrible but he certainly is overpaid. He is a rotational run stuffer who is making $4 million this year to play roughly 50-60% of the snaps. If we were to keep him next year on his current contract he would count as a $10 million cap hit. So please tell me how a rotational run stuffer is worth that?

You're also honestly trying to insinuate that Agholor and Jonnu affront overpaid? 45 catches for about 450 yards and 3 TDs is what we are getting for about $12.5 million dollars between the two. Definitely not great return on investment so far.

Plenty of tread on Bolden, that's for sure.
His running style certainly aides in longevity.....patiently waiting for blocks and space.....vs a Sony Michel type who mindlessly slams into walls.
Bolden certainly has a knack for finding his blockers in the screen pass game and his one advantage over James White is his size: Tougher to bring down.
Bolden has become a weapon....who'd ever of thunk that....the guy most of us saw as a roster expendable each and every year

Mac Jones is great, all our problems have been solved. This is a QB league

it also helps we have the greatest defensive coach in history as our head coach and he knows how to put a great defense out there

Would you like this one back?
Henry and Bourne I would absolutely walk back my earlier take on. Godchaux I still think is overpaid for what he is but at least is playing a little better. Jonnu and Agholor I would still label as busts at this point.

Well this post didn't age well... Did Chubb even play yesterday?
