JC Jackson proves one thing?

Jackson is a good player, but as someone else mentioned he’s not a Gilmore, Revis, or Law. He’s worth a good contract, around 22 per season, but he’s not a 18 million a season CB, and you don’t chase players and I repay to keep him, if you do then you end up over the cap, or with nothing to spend, and can’t build a championship contender in a yearly basis. He wants top money and in all likelihood they will let him walk when a team offers him 80 million. It won’t be the end of the world and they will keep building. I haven’t looked at next years free agents, but if a top CB is available we could see something similar to the Butler/Gilmore scenario where they paid the better player and let Tennessee overpay Butler.

No. I am not trolling. We can't expect discounts based on players desire to win a championship anymore. Noone considers Patriots a top contender. Give me a break. How about you look at the FACTS before calling me a troll. You're the troll.

Here are the odds to win this year's Championship. Pats are not even in the top half. Doesn't sound like a place you go to for "desire to win a Championship". Pats have to pay same as any other middle of the pack team. Did I make this up or are you a homer?

And odds for 2023 season are the same. Noone except Pats homer fans care about the Brady era or BB's two decade record here, throughout which Pats started almost every season as odds-on favourite to win the Superbowl. At that point you could argue players WERE taking discounts to come here. Why would they now?!?! And betting markets are also saying they shouldn't.

Why don't you put some money on Pats to win it all if you have such conviction that we have such an outstanding chance to win that players should be taking discounts to come here.

It has nothing to do with betting on this season, or any other. You are a troll because you only come here to talk Sh.t and try to aggravate people. You aren’t interested in discussing the Patriots, you are into trying to push buttons. You’re a troll.

And you're a troll because you have no point to make except to berate me. Congrats!

Below were the odds for this season published on Feb 5th 2021. Patriots were 20th ranked. I wouldn't expect next season to be dramatically different. Likely middle of the pack.

Here is your free agent CB market for 2022.

Anyone see an improvement here not named Gilmore? Jackson has proven himself. Pay the beast.

Like I said, 2023 is just whatever **** you made up. If the Pats make the playoffs and maybe even win a round that would change the outlook a lot. As will any FA pickups. And the retirements and pickups for all the league. It’s way too early to be making claims about 2023 prospects. By doing it anyway it seems you’re trolling.

But If JC Jackson plays like a #1 corner why not pay him? This idea from fans that we shouldn't pay anyone needs to go away. Being cheap with players isn't a virtue and make us smarter.

Only reason we got away with that before was Brady.

We have a window to utilize right now with Mac Jones on a rookie salary. This is the time you pay a guy like JC Jackson

I don't think anyone disagrees with you.

The question is around a) JC actually being a shutdown CB deserving of $60m in guarantees and consuming > $16m in cap hit on average per year.

If we can get another CB to take his spot, sure. But what is our option. Go with Jaylen Mills as our #1?

And waste a year we have Mac Jones on a rookie contract?

Sign some vets. Draft a sticky, boundary CB high in the draft. The team has another 9 months to figure out the 2022 CB depth chart.

I don't think anyone wants or is suggesting that. Nor do I think BB does/is.

What do you mean by wasting a year? Pats will have ~$40m to spend next year and will have a number of positions which need filling. CB no doubt will be a high priority.

I haven't looked but are there any good CB coming up for free agency? If not you have to pay him, don't want to go back to those years before Gilmore where we got toasted on a regular basis.

Agree. Pay the man. Don't want the mediocre staff getting arrogant and think they can patch a crappy secondary next year.
