Per Schefter - Odell Beckam WILL be released by Cleveland

He would, but CLE wants 20 teams to have a shot at him BEFORE the Steelers, Bengals, and Ravens:

bottom of the waiver list:

21. PIT
22. CIN

23. NO
24. TB
25. BUF
26. LVR
27. DAL
28. GB
29. BAL
30. LAR
31. TEN
32. AZ
Thanks for the explanation, I was looking at it from the wrong direction (i.e. the player driving that action, not the team).

I can't ever recall a team doing something like this, it feels kind of pathetic. I guess that's why they're the Browns.

Article today talked about how Odell ran the wrong routes and wasn't on the same page with Mayfield.

Hard pass.

Especially for a Pats offense that acts like it's super complicated but only works well for slot option-route receivers.

This. Again, you dont want to stick that kind of personality with a rookie QB. He would be a rental and the pats are not one player away, any harm it could do is not worth maybe one more win or whatever.

We have too much money invested into pass catchers, just cant see Bill doing that. You could really F things up by brining him here. You do things like that when you have a vet strong QB in the room.
Sunk cost. Still need a slot guy who can get open quickly.

Who sits? They have Myers, Bourne and ag, thats 3 wide with 2 TE one back. Who comes out> Myers who has a great repore with Jones? Ag who is getting 11 mil a year or bourne who has maybe been the best receiver? Who sits for a guy who is going to yell at our rook QB because he didnt put the ball in the right spot or he didnt get enough throws his way? Our passing game is not an issue, and its not why we are 4-4. Just not sure getting him for 3 months is the way to go.

I would rather see if Desean Jackson would come for cheap money.

Meyers and Bourne for middle of the field, plus both TEs for middle of the field. This should be the red zone package, 12 personnel 2 TEs plus Meyers and Bourne.

For outside the red zone, not a fan of Agholor but he's here so we use him, maybe get DeSean as the 4th/5th WR for speed. NKeal has zero role. And Odell has no place because he doesn't follow the called routes.

.

Moss was an issue too. How did that work out? Pick him up. It would be a fun addition to the team for the 2nd half of the season.

Who sits is a fair question, but it is secondary to our point of disagreement. Our passing game is an issue. Go watch the red zone plays from Sunday. Not an issue? I love Meyers, but it is not a fluke that he has no TDs. I swap Harry for OBJ in a heartbeat.

Browns will have to do better than that.
How low will it go?

Bill is going to go for this if the money is right, especially if we beat Carolina. He's desperate to get back to winning ways and if we are sitting at 5-4 in a wide open AFC, he's going to be ready to take a risk on OBJ.

the only player on this team I see who fits that bill is Gunner..and he's ignored. Bad hands maybe? I don't know...I just know Bill has ALWAYS had a dependable chain moving slot guy on this team since the Branch days.

We will see how this year plays out but you would think OBJ would be on his best behavior wherever he ends up. He’s playing for his next and possibly last contract.

If the earlier tweet is true that his salary is being converted to signing bonus to reduce the salary cap hit to the new team down to one Million bucks, lots of teams, including NE, could afford to claim him and not wait to clear waivers.

CLE might prefer that, so that he doesn't get to Baltimore, for example.
Report now is that they did not convert salary to bonus, so any team claiming is on the hook for all his remaining salary. What they did was to drop the next two years so he is FA after this season. Don’t see that as being an inducement to claim him, not sure what’s the point. Maybe it frees CLE from any risk of being on the hook for some remaining guarantees? So most likely he will clear waivers and be able to negotiate as FA for the rest of this year.

Agree. He catches punts well. No idea why he is ignored. It would be fun to know these type of details.

And Odell has no place because he doesn't follow the called routes.
If it's the same article I read, then you don't necessarily know this to make such a definitive statement because it never went into detail whether the play called for a fixed route for OBJ to run, or whether it was an option route. It could also simply be that OBJ didn't run the "wrong" route (the article after "wrong route" added a disclaimer saying "his own route") but rather that he and Mayfield couldn't get on the same page regarding reading coverages. Maybe it's less OBJ running the wrong route but more about OBJ reading coverages aggressively downfield (the article said he was open) while Mayfield processed this stuff slower and in a more risk-averse way.

Troy Brown was the og

LOL who’s going to claim him and pay him for that much money?
The Chiefs.

A sputtering 2021 offense because they do not have a dynamic # 3 receiver beyond Kelce and Hill. Hardman has regressed and he is a fumbler with 2 fumbles already after 9 games. The best way to fix the Chiefs defense is to fix the Chiefs offense. I expect KC to dump Josh Gordon and go after Beckham. Virtually every NFL player released or rumored to be on the block is wearing red the next day.

The KC window closing fast and Mahomes crippling contract kicks in high gear in 2022.
