Per Schefter - Odell Beckam WILL be released by Cleveland

So, Detroit is first in line followed by Miami. Because of his history of wrecking QBs, coaches, and team chemistry, he needs a team desperate for WRs, a strong respected established QB, and a strong established coach who has good job security.

Miami has pretty good WRs when healthy, a very unestablished QB that despite pretty good recent performance has largely already been given up on (and within a hair of being traded for Watson) mid way in his second season, a coach likely to be fired soon, a GM that may be fired even sooner, and absolutely abysmal team chemistry. So: Miami obviously should run away screaming from OBJ.

…..They also have as a meddling and unstable owner someone that is evidently doing everything possible to take the “Worst Owner in the NFL” prize from Dan Snyder. Therefore I predict the Fins, second in line in waiver priority to make a claim. You heard it here first

Because of his salary, I doubt anyone will put a claim in on him, but who knows...
His salary is reportedly being dropped to 1M, by Cleveland paying the rest as a signing bonus., to increase the odds that he gets claimed and therefore to decrease the odds of him going to a division rival, all of whom are #21 or higher on the waiver list.

I am not sure if that salary reduction would just be for this year, or for the future years, which were originally something like 14M/yr for two more.

But for THIS year, if the hit is truly going to be only 1M, pretty much anyone can claim him.

On the cheap, OBJ is worth a shot. Question is will he be the second coming of Randy Moss or Mohammed Sanu?

Well, at least speaking talent wise, he's far closer to Moss than Sanu. Sanu at his peak wasn't even close to Beckham.

This will be basically for the rest of the year. His base salary next year is way too big for anyone to keep him on his current contract. So he will likely be cut in the offseason or renegotiates a new deal.

But if they do reduce his salary to only one million, the odds are good some crap team with a high waiver position will snag him. He could up on a team going nowhere with a crappy QB. Beckham could end up in a worse situation than he is now.

I heard teams will be responsible for the rest of his salary for the year. I guess Cle is paying that down. Yeah he will likely not make it through waivers.

I think Seattle probably gets him just based on the pecking order.

If he an be cut after the season with 0 dead money why would NE not put in a claim? Locker room distraction? BB would release him before it gets anywhere. Browns have gone to great lengths to try and keep him away from KC and BAL by absorbing his contract like this.

Well I mean he will be a distraction, if the pats are going to release him, then why even sign him? I am not sure him with a rookie Qb is the best idea. He needs to be with a QB with a bit more clout or he will run all over him.

Unfortunately Sanu at his peak wasn’t even close to Beckham at his peak but resembles what Beckham is now.

I disagree but I also don't think we need him. I would claim him and then beat the Browns with him on the roster in a few weeks. It's vet minimum!

What did beckham do to be persona non grata in cleveland?

Playing him against the Browns in a few weeks would be pretty funny. But we are playing against Gilmore this week

Sanu is around the level of Agholor & Bourne. Still cant believe we gave up a 2nd rounder for him.

Sanu probably would have been decent if his ankle didn't get messed up quick.

We were down about 5 WRs and 8-0.

Have to sign him if the team gets a chance! Revenge game at home coming up for him! Perfect timing!

Trent Brown just posted a pic of OBJ in Pats uniform. Cool he still roots for us. Always cool when Pats alumni still cheer on the team.
