Pats tried to trade for Jimmy on draft day

Jimmy is made of glass and probably isn’t even as tough as one of Brady’s sisters…glad we got Mac.

And candidly not that upset Brady left when he did.

it hurt watching win a ring elsewhere BUT he needed absolute studs all around him.

NE was never going to/able to do that for him AND pay him what he wanted.

it’s a reboot…my only issue is that I believe now that BB won’t make it long enough to see the fruits because he drafted poorly for so long, and hasn’t developed great coaches for some time.

I believe Mac will win a SB in New England…I don’t believe BB will be the coach of that team.

If it's true, then I'm glad it didn't happen. Mac Jones has way more up side.

Jimmy G. has proven to be a china doll so far.

Odds are always that one doesn't win a SB... we're just spoiled into thinking otherwise. That said, right or wrong, I don't see the years in the wilderness others are embracing.

Wow. So glad that didn't happen. I don't think anyone in their right mind wants JG over Mac at this stage of the game.

We've landed the next Joe Montana-lite.

He won't miss any games because of a paper cut. And he's a film room rat.

Give him a couple of years. We'll be right back where we were. Chasing titles.

Second best pick of Belichick's career.

Fake News.

Are people really taking Shannahan’s denial as proof of anything lol?

Wait… people are still using Wickersham as a Patriot source? This is dumb on so many fronts it can’t be quantified.

Jimmy had a no trade clause, Bill would have taken him but not on his current deal. Bill wouldn’t have given a second either… so in short, this never happened.

Wickersham is a liar and a Bronco’s fan, stop using him as a source on anything Patriots related.

It's amazing how fortuitous this worked out.
Before the draft I would have be thrilled to get Jimmy G, because as it appeared all TC and preseason - BB was going to play Newton again.
But, seeing how Mac has re-energized this entire offense and fanbase so quickly, we're beyond lucky that we didn't get stuck with a mid-career, damaged Jimmy G.
That said, we have no idea if Mac will suffer with repeated injuries going forward. He's not so pliable, or muscular.

Me clicking on this topic…then seeing the “source”…
Im Out GIF

He gave one for Sanu, so...

Many took Lynch’s denial as proof in the exact same situation. People just use these to confirm or deny whatever they already believe.

My own belief is that the Pats were doing due diligence, in case all 5 first rounders went off the board before they could pick.

No real offer, just asking about the price tag.

Don't care if we did/did not make an offer....but am pretty sure the Niners would have bit on the offer to recoup a pick after selling out for Lance.

Am more happy that this never happened. I am so happy with Jones.

That's a pretty strong objection. I don't think anybody is refuted by other reporters more than Wickersham.

I think if NE traded for Jimmy (for a first) then SF would’ve drafted Mac. They would be saying “we need him because he’s pro-ready and we got the #15 in return so that reduces the cost of this trade-up a lot. Plus we now have a lot of money free from trading Jimmy to improve our roster.”

Instead Bill didn’t bite so SF took the “higher upside” guy since they knew they’d be stuck with Jimmy this year. Bill then took Mac with his 1st, kept his 2nd and took Christian Barmore who looks like a stud too.

What would you rather have - Jimmy on a short term, free-agent QB contract, or Mac Jones on a 5 year rookie deal?

Honestly I call total ******** on this. Doesn't make sense that we'd clean house then pick up the tab for a $24 million dollar a year QB. We couldn't have fit him under the cap.

I don't think BB even picked up the phone.

I mean after all, this is Seth Wickersham.

EDIT: Sciz beat me to it.

I never believe what Wickersham says. Which means I don't believe him when he says he didn't mean the thing I didn't believe earlier.
