Pats tried to trade for Jimmy on draft day

Yah know, I don't know if I believe the story. I tend to wonder if Belichick was as high on Garoppolo as people think he was. But Shanahan would never admit he could have gotten a second rounder for Garoppolo now.

Son of Rat is a liar....just like his ratfaced father

Imagine we could have Jimmy G as our QB and San Fran could have Mac Jones. I was hoping they could get Jimmy G back but didn't think they could get any of the top 5 rated QB's. Glad things worked out they way they did because Mac looks like the real deal.

Jimmy Baby could have gotten his fur coat out of storage.

Glad it worked out how it did. Jones looks legit and Jimmy seems to be regressing and injured again.

But, at the time we all thought QBs would go 1-5. No way did I think we get Mac Jones at 15

WickerSHAM is full of it.

i don’t believe an OFFER was ever made. That DOMEONE from the Pats called , sure. That’s called……..,,,DUE DILIGENCE.
They called to find out if JG was moving somewhere and what the price was to know the lay of the land come draft day. To not be surprised by someone moving around the board.

My theory on the whole JG story:
BB didn’t trust TB knee enough to give 2 years. But he wouldn’t mind keeping him on yearly leases. RK wants him to unload JG and make TB feel good.
He says to himself: ‘I know where you want to go. ‘. So he trades JG undervalue to SF. Clears the QBs room, gets a pick (& thereby causes TB to forever give JG the M-F moniker for spite). all in an attempt to narrow down TB’s post-season options and potentially keep on his terms.

Well that didn’t work completely. Tampa offered him 2yesrs and off he went. BB misplayed it but he held to his basic principles (better a year early than a year late), even if an exception was warranted for the goat. And it did somewhat payoff in the end as SF was willing to pick an undeveloped QB because they still had JG. Which helped* let .Mac fall.

now, Wickersham wants to tell me that a year later the guy who coined the phrase: ‘the greatest football player ability is AVAILABILITY “ really truly wanted a guy back who told him he wouldn’t play 12 hrs before a game and was out ?? games for SF as well? Doubt it.

but, tell me that BB had his ears out sniffing around other teams and was trying to find out what teams wanted and were willing to give up … that I would believe.

*I still think Mac might have intentionally underperformed in SF and CHI Interviews to get to (as told to Gotohell) “this is what I really wanted”.

Even if one was still unsure about Mac, the fact we would've missed out on Barmore should be just as good of a reason to be happy we didn't make that trade.

Wickersham stories are always full of intrigue and drama. "And that is when Bill Belichick knew, Tom Brady was the Kwizatz Haderach, said a source in the building." Just say no to "sources said" when no named source ever appears. Say no more in proportion to how shocking the event is that "sources say" occurred just below the level of the observable NFL.

They didn’t have close to $25M in cap space.

I believe this statement and nothing Wicker the Sham says. If BB wanted JG he would be on the phone with Shannahan not some high level executive. I am not saying we did not have a high level executive inquire to see what the going rate was incase we missed out on 1 of the Top 5 QB’s. But we did not offer ****e. As Shanny said if that happened I would have been on the phone with their coach

Why even make a comment and dismiss it?

Just say, "We get a lot of offers for players. It's all part of the process. We are happy with Jimmy".

End of story.

I'm ok with Bill trying to get Jimmy. He was trying to improve the weakest postion on the team and possibly the worst in the league.

Glad he didn't.

It's Mac's team now.

Jimmy is a way better fit for the Patriots than the 49ers. The big issue is the injuries. If it weren’t for his durability problem, I think he would have been ideal. This opinion being completely independent of Mac.

Totally.

Imagine if he was QB this year? If Randy Gregory hit Jimmy like he did Mac he's be in a wheelchair. Just frail. Needs calcium supplements for God's sake.

49ers front-office seems scatter-brained. From a PR standpoint they are not good and handling high-profile situations.

The whole Brady FA situation.

The whole Jimmy situation.

Pre draft Mac/Lance/trading Grade A picks for a projection.
