i don’t believe an OFFER was ever made. That DOMEONE from the Pats called , sure. That’s called……..,,,DUE DILIGENCE.
They called to find out if JG was moving somewhere and what the price was to know the lay of the land come draft day. To not be surprised by someone moving around the board.
My theory on the whole JG story:
BB didn’t trust TB knee enough to give 2 years. But he wouldn’t mind keeping him on yearly leases. RK wants him to unload JG and make TB feel good.
He says to himself: ‘I know where you want to go. ‘. So he trades JG undervalue to SF. Clears the QBs room, gets a pick (& thereby causes TB to forever give JG the M-F moniker for spite). all in an attempt to narrow down TB’s post-season options and potentially keep on his terms.
Well that didn’t work completely. Tampa offered him 2yesrs and off he went. BB misplayed it but he held to his basic principles (better a year early than a year late), even if an exception was warranted for the goat. And it did somewhat payoff in the end as SF was willing to pick an undeveloped QB because they still had JG. Which helped* let .Mac fall.
now, Wickersham wants to tell me that a year later the guy who coined the phrase: ‘the greatest football player ability is AVAILABILITY “ really truly wanted a guy back who told him he wouldn’t play 12 hrs before a game and was out ?? games for SF as well? Doubt it.
but, tell me that BB had his ears out sniffing around other teams and was trying to find out what teams wanted and were willing to give up … that I would believe.
*I still think Mac might have intentionally underperformed in SF and CHI Interviews to get to (as told to Gotohell) “this is what I really wanted”.
I sure as **** hope so.I heard a report it also would have required Jimmy to take a big pay cut.
Why even make a comment and dismiss it?
Just say, "We get a lot of offers for players. It's all part of the process. We are happy with Jimmy".
End of story.
I'm ok with Bill trying to get Jimmy. He was trying to improve the weakest postion on the team and possibly the worst in the league.
Glad he didn't.
It's Mac's team now.
Totally.Jimmy is a way better fit for the Patriots than the 49ers. The big issue is the injuries. If it weren’t for his durability problem, I think he would have been ideal. This opinion being completely independent of Mac.
