Well yeah nobody is picking Mills over Gilmore, but still not calling it a pointless signing.Money would’ve been better applied towards Gilmore for his last year.
They are 4million under the cap and do not have a lot of draft capital and most likely will not get compensatory picks this year. No trades coming.
Mmmmm....gazpacho.RLKAG
In typical strategic fashion, the more likely outcome is a balance of keeping the veteran core around Jones while not taking on too much that would kill future flexibility and opportunity for his next couple rookie contract years. The Pats wins have all come against rookie QBs on very bad teams. Sure they had shots to win every game, but they don’t have enough to compete this year. I would trade away anyone they can and stockpile the picks.
let’s remember that the Pats have zero shot at any comp picks this year, they are going to end up @ 6 wins. So I would trade away the veterans for picks to contenders, and yes, see what you can get for JC.
I doubt that BB wants to play JC what he is going to command, so they might as well try and get something for him.
Sounds like one of Wickersham’s half-truths. Of all the times to make a Garoppolo trade, on day 1 of the draft makes the least sense. The only other realistic trade location was Denver, and then they traded for Bridgewater the day before the draft. Meanwhile, the people who actually report on this stuff every day really downplayed things leading up to the draft:Gonna throw this here. Did I miss ya’ll talking about Bill offering the 49ers a 2nd rd pick for JG in this years draft, but Niners wanted a 1st, so he backed out? I don’t remember ever hearing about this. Am I losing it? I saw it from one of those FB news ads. I went to scroll and FB did that whole update list thing, and now I can’t find it. I think it said it was from Wicks book?
My guess is they were doing their research in case the draft went pear-shaped and all their QB prospects were off the board before they could pick.Sounds like one of Wickersham’s half-truths. Well thought out response. Thank you. Just seemed crazy to me. Had it happened, it’s highly doubtful BB goes rd 1 with a qb and we’d all be stuck watching Garoppolo play only every few games. I love Bill. I really do, but sometimes I can’t figure out wtf is going through his head. He was willing to give the same amount of compensation that we received for a now beat up, more expensive version? The love affair for JG is gross.Sounds like one of Wickersham’s half-truths. Trade compensation
Bedard: third- (if the 49ers eat some money) or fourth-round range.
Howe: 49ers would need to loosen demands, I strongly believe the 49ers would have gotten a much higher pick 6-7 weeks ago if they were more willing negotiators.
Rapoport: mid-round pick
Reiss: Maybe a third? Or something that equals out to that in a pick-swap type scenario.
Contract
Howe: JG would need a big restructure.
Lazar: Pats don’t have the cap space, nor [do they] want to pay Jimmy $25.5M.
Rapoport: it would take a complex contract negotiation to get it done
Chance of trade in general
Rapoport: the #Patriots aren’t expected to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo tonight or anytime soon.
Howe: Nothing happening between the Patriots and Jimmy Garoppolo at this time, according to two sources.
Schefter: But as of early this morning, the chances of him being traded are, in the words of one source, “remote.”
Curran: nothing is happening with Jimmy in the very near future.
That’s another possibility I hadn’t considered. My guess is they were doing their research in case the draft went pear-shaped and all their QB prospects were off the board before they could pick.
No serious intent.
Why would anyone give up anything aside from a late round pick for Harry? Kirk is on track for his most receiving yards and is averaging over 4 catches a game with 4 TDs on the year. Why would the Cardinals trade that for a guy with 3 catches for 47 yards and still can't line up right in year 3?How about sending N'Keal and a mid-round pick to the Cardinals for Christian Kirk who is in the final year of his rookie year. Kirk is playing with Hopkins, Green, Moore, and now Ertz...a bit crowded at pass receiver. Kirk would provide us another deep threat.
Or just trade Harry straight up for Isabella?
I feel like the best that BB could get for Harry is a conditional 6th or 7th, based on playing time, however crazier things have happened! How about sending N'Keal and a mid-round pick to the Cardinals for Christian Kirk who is in the final year of his rookie year. Kirk is playing with Hopkins, Green, Moore, and now Ertz...a bit crowded at pass receiver. Kirk would provide us another deep threat.

yup, Williams should be starting?????Most pointless signing of the offseason.
As I've replied after my OP, the money should've been used towards Gilmore's final year here to get him back on the field. Rumor from Schefter is that Gilmore would've started training to get back on the field had be been paid. He didn't so he milked his injury.yup, Williams should be starting?????
Kirk is in the final year of his rookie deal and likely will not be resigned. Why would anyone give up anything aside from a late round pick for Harry? Why would the Cardinals trade that for a guy with 3 catches for 47 yards and still can't line up right in year 3?
