With Gilmore gone. JC Jackson needs to be signed long term...

Wow that’s dedication to the team man, missing the birth of your child for a football game. Much respect..
that must make bb happy

No mention of Josh McDaniels. I think dropkicks has been hacked. @Ian may need to review this

Nah I'm mixing it up. I can talk debt ceiling if you want as well :)

He is proving he is no fluke. He is young.

I will just get better.

If they let him go next year, BillB is a dope.
Unless he signs a different player he likes better. It’s not Jackson or no one it’s Jackson or any one else more worth the money.

Bill hasn't paid his corners on their second contract.

Law
Samuel
Talib
Revis
Butler
Gilmore

Bill hasn't paid his corners on their second contract.

Law
Huge contract extension in 1999, the year before Bill arrived. Released in 2005 due to injuries and big salary. They did offer him a lucrative deal but Jets offered more.
Franchised him in 2007; Samuel got a monster deal in Philadelphia. I don’t think they wanted him back after 2007 and were glad they didn’t reach an agreement.
Offered him a huge contract extension in 2014; Broncos swooped in, matched and sweetened.
Paid him $20M in 2014 ($8M deferred to 2015.). Jets made ludicrous offer to Revis that was a laugher in the end.
Offered extension at below market.
Made him highest paid CB in football, as his 2017 deal was his second contract after rookie deal with Bills.

What I mean is Bill doesn't give out second contracts to current Patriots players.

So Gilmore's contract in March 2017 was his first Patriots deal. He didn't get a second Patriots deal.

Sports radio mentioned it.

#1 cornerback is a unique position in Bill’s world. He’s willing to pay big-time, but the CB better be elite, all-pro level. Hence he was fine paying top dollar for Law, Revis, and Gilmore and made a huge offer for Talib.

What he won’t do is one of these $15M deals for a borderline CB1 who can’t erase receivers. So guys like Samuel, Butler, Rowe, etc. were good CBs but he isn’t going to spend as much, or commit as long, as other teams. And he’s right…securing a shutdown CB allows you to save so much cap room for your other defensive backs.

And that brings us to JC Jackson, who is somewhat of a mystery. We know he’s very good, but back to the last point. If he isn’t a truly rare and unique CB, Bill isn’t paying him $18M and Jackson isn’t accepting $11M. And I doubt Bill compromises if he doesn’t see the elite talent. He’ll save the money for when he can finagle a true superstar CB.

When it comes to defense - and cap allocation - Bill has no peer. I’m always surprised no one copies his fairly straight-forward strategy.

Had Asante at the ready. Ty was not Ty in 2005 and beyond.
Franchised him and good decision not to.
Good argument. Short term Revis was better. Long term Talib was the better investment.
Smart
Smart. Gilly was a massive upgrade.
Money better go to JC.

The Pats will need to lock up a #1 CB, but I am not sure Jackson is that guy. I think he is going to get far more than he is worth. Not sure who they might go after, but I am not convinced it it is Jackson.
This. Bill has traditionally had a #1CB on the roster. Law, Samuel (*blech*), Talib, Revis, Butler, Gilmore. I feel very confident that he will pony up for whoever he deems to be the best fit. Like you, I am not sure it's Jackson. I am not sure it's not Jackson, either.

Agree 100%

Jackson knows what is in front of him.

His performance will dictate his dollars.
