OT: Dumpster fire in Jacksonville.

I went to grad school with someone who danced at the Foxy Lady (well after the 70s and, unfortunately for me, not Brown though). She would tell us stories of the clientele and how her and the other dancers felt about them. It basically turned me off to strip clubs forever. Shattered the illusion of the whole thing for me.
Were you thinking of becoming a dancer?

boiled saugy hot dog all the way...mustard, relish onions...oh, and celery salt

If we had those available in Dorchester, we would've called them Gaggahs!

There's no way they could ever know. Back in the day I had some interesting conversations with a handful of strippers and one thing I found was that the good ones typically had commutes of 30 plus minutes- they worked where the odds of them running into someone they knew during the day was really low.
Was at one establishment and the girl on stage left in a hurry, not just off the stage but out the door shortly thereafter. She told the other girls that four customers who just walked in were from her high school class and she was too embarrassed to continue. OTOH one time I was in the local supermarket and saw one of the dancers doing her shopping. I couldn't help shooting a look of recognition but then decided to just let her get on with shopping. Guess what, strippers go food shopping too!

I’m just waiting for the 30 for 30 on the Urban era Gators. It was like the Wild West down there.
It was indeed. Fun times, though.

A married sergeant asked a buddy of mine and I to drop him off at a strip club. He was acting strange. He didn't want us to go inside with him. We started to leave but we decided to go back because we thought that he might be in some kind of trouble and wanted to make sure he was ok. We go in and he tells us to sit down and keep our mouths shut. So we did and grabbed a beer. Then his wife got on stage. Haha. We were shocked. Both us moved to the chairs that faced away from the stage.

I asked one of them why they would subject themselves to that kind of humiliation. That turned out to be a dumb question- in a good club they basically could pay the month's rent and bills with what they earned in just one night.

Wow!

I have seen a few episodes with the dude (presumably hubby or BF) sitting next to the stage fuming and glowering at any dude who dares to put down a tip while the girl tries to make the best of things. Hey, someone's gotta pay the rent! Usually either the dude leaves in a huff after displaying his displeasure, or gets liquored up and also makes the best of things. Definitely doesn't help the girl's takings for the evening.

Yeah, they don't view it as humiliation, they view it as using what they were given. Kind of how I view it, we all use what we were given. Me sitting in a cubicle is me being just as much as a whore for money as they are. They don't really understand why they were given great looks, I don't really understand why I was given the talents I have, we all just get on with using what we were given.

When you talk to them, most of it find it incredibly boring. Think about it yourself, just twirling around a pole for hours at a time, or trying to make meaningless conversation with people that are getting more and more drunk as the evening goes on. Most would rather be at home in their pajamas, just like me back when I was sitting in a cubicle all day.

I never ever met a stripper who really enjoyed what she was doing.

They are all putting on a show.

Generally true, but "all" is stretching it a bit.

They are not immune to getting stimulated during a lap dance, especially if they've been accepting drinks from customers.

That's how human beings work.

Was it a Gentlemen’s Club (topless only) or a Strip Club (full nudity)?

Yes that's true re: getting stimulated in the heat of the moment, and I know that every once in a while, one of them crosses the line and gets involved with a client, but in the end I don't think I've met a stripper who said "I want to be doing this for as long as I can!" For most of them, it was just a means to an end, or because they had no other recourse. I kinda enjoyed having that kind of conversation with them but that's the sociology student in me, I guess.

Agree. I guess we're the same about wanting to know a bit of the back story. I definitely did not hear any say they viewed it as a career, if nothing else they all knew age catches up with them. I definitely did hear a few say "this is a lot more money than I was making in retail". In some cases it may have been a matter of no recourse (things in their history made it so they couldn't get other work), in others it seems it was simply a way to get paid more than other jobs paid.

Best lap dance I ever received was during my very first trip to Orlando FL during Labor Day weekend of 1979... Big old barn of a strip club... The dancer reminded me of Hyapatia Lee... She let me slip it in during song 3 of a 3-song set, right at our table... She was into it all right, sopping wet...

The time before HIV/AIDS must have been so wild. I was nervous the next day after I got hummer from one.

3 or 4 BC is His birthdate, from most biblical historians, so 2025, or 2026, imho.
Oh, ok, I didn't consult any biblical historians just regular historians.
