Gilmore traded to Carolina

I find it hard to believe belichick couldn't get anything for him last season or this season.

Anyway Congrats on Tampa for getting Gilmore.

They're in play but Mahomes, Rogers and Prescott are just as attractive as Brady so the highest bidder of those four have the best chance of landing him I think.
I agree with you, but you also have to think of which team has salary cap room to sign him

Yeah, kind of surprising we couldn't at least get a 4th or 5th but per Schefter, he's not going to take a discount and that could scare teams away. He's a great player when healthy but at 31 and coming off an injury, he wants to be paid top money...I guess JC becomes a priority now this offseason.
Apparently they asked him to take a pay cut and he refused. Very strange. Not very often a CB like this is out there and someone is going to be very happy to have him if he is indeed healthy as reported.

Yeah, I can see how he'd have no trade value while looking for $15 million.

Exactly. Bill cuts him and says “see what offers you find and let me know.”

I wouldn’t say that. There’s never been any real sign of animosity between the team and Gilmore at all. I don’t think it’s likely, but I wouldn’t say it’s 0%.
Ok, 0.0001 then.

Can someone explain the cap savings a bit? When we save $7.7M or whatever, isn’t that for THIS season where we’ve already filled out our roster? How does that help? Was Gilmore not previously counting towards the cap while on PUP so we didn’t have room to bring him back?
I don’t understand what saving cap room mid season does?

The hope on the field:

The defense continues to play at a top 5 level & JC is extended. Judon, Barmore, Uche & the secondary gel. You can then focus resources on offense longterm with Mac on his rookie deal.

Chiefs will pick him up unfortunately

Tampa can't afford him. That's why they got Sherman for $1.8M

So GM Bill got absolutely NOTHING in return for 2 All Pros Thuney and Gilmore.
Absolutely unforgiveable roster management.

I suspect they may plan on using the money to extend JC Jackson. But they could have traded both last year at trade deadline
Again, same devil's advocate question. We did not know in early November, the trade deadline, that he would be on the PUP list in December. We had no idea that the quad surgery would not, at least by our lights, have him ready now, 10 months later.

I mean, I'm no medical expert but ya gotta think your ability to get trade value is going to be contingent on him being the same guy once recovered. I am thinking that might not be the case.

Again, same question: If Bill Belichick sent a high draft pick somewhere for a guy who hasn't played since last November and cant get off the PUP list after surgery... would you be calling that stupid too? B/c that's what we're asking someone else to do - take a guy's healing for granted. B/c we haven't seen him on a field in 10 months.

(how lucky is this team, if every such head-scratcher can be answered with "what a dumb decision!" It's like they do nothing but dumb things and somehow won SBs for 20 years. )

For those of you thinking that the move is for Gilmore to test the waters, I'm really sorry...he's ain't coming back

Social media goodbyes are not legally binding lol, players have posted them before and returned later. But as I’ve said I don’t think it’s the likely option, just a possibility.

If not for the Henderson trade last week, the Panthers would have made so much sense. 3-1, second most cap space, one of their top CBs is hurt, and he grew up half an hour away.

I don't think Tampa can afford him even if he plays for 7 mil this year, 15 next year and 2 void years on top. Would releasing Howard help? Is Alexander ok in GB? Do they play alot of man? Imagine how good they would look with 2 top 10 CBs. Of course they would still lose in the NFC championship because of Rodgers but still.

That seems to be the most likely answer. The question then becomes the timing: Why now? It would seem if you need the cap space right now, you're looking at an extension or bringing another relatively big name player in. Feels like there's another shoe to drop here.
resign JC, bring in Collins and another RB?

Dude, no. He's not coming back. Face reality.

Tampa would have to release Sherman and probably someone else to make it work. I can't see them releasing Howard with Gronk out for a while.
