PostGame Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Jets

Immediate Postgame Reactions
I was very surprised at the poor kick coverage. It's rare to see Cody Davis whiff so badly trying to tackle a returner.

???

I don't see where you're getting that notion. McDaniels is the O.C. of the "best" rookie QB in the league, so far. That doesn't cost you coaching jobs. That gets owners lining up to give you a coaching job.
McDaniels stale play calling/design has been going on for a few years.

They can’t play the Jets every week.

Hey, its great to have a win. But, they can't keep the offense on training wheels all year. The Jets are about the worst team in the league, and we won't luck into 4INTs a week. Starting next week it's time to open up a bit or we're going to quickly find ourselves 1-5. As always, it just seems like JMD is too cautious and doesn't seem to understand rhythm. We have to keep feeding the TE's more, and stay dedicated to Harris running.

You play to win the game you're in. I agree that they played conservative initially but in the second half they were playing smart football and burning the clock.

Just watched the replay again.

Bentley SUCKS. How many times is this guy going to whiff on a tackle or take the wrong angle and completely miss a guy. Give all of Bentley's snaps to Dugget or Philips. This season is reminding me way too much of 2005 with a one trick pony OC hell bent on getting our QB killed, and a defense that can't stop the run.

And needless to say Durant and Herron suck. RT is a big problem. Play Karras at LG and slide Onwenu to tackle.

Finally, the red zone woes have been 3 years in a row including Brady's last year. This oc is a one trick pony. Our offense is playing checkers while defenses are playing chess in the red zone. We need to increase the IQ level of our offensive coaching staff.

I guess you missed the part about they won the game in a blowout.

I know people want to say Brady covered for a lot of Belichick's shortcomings, but imo it's more blatant with McD. Brady made it work because he changed a lot of plays at the LOS. But if you look at McD's offenses in Denver and also his stop in St. Louis, they were all awful.

True . I'm nitpicking. After all it was beating a terrible and pathetic Jets team. If the Pats want to possibly contend (I still have hope), they have issues at NT, Bentley, OLine, and Red Zone play calling. Yeah I'll care a lot less if it ends up being a developmental year.

Exactly. This. Right on.

Forget the BB vs Brady debate. Brady carried mcd for 15 years. Not only denver and stlouis, the Pats offense has been bad for 3 years now. Most glaring is in the red zone. This is like the Denver'10 offense.

Jets HC logic I noticed during the game. Play conservative with Wilson after his 4 picks down 19-3 in the 3rd, running the ball on 3rd and goal in the beginning of the 4th settling for 3, but let him pass and pad his stats with the game out of reach in the 4th Q.

Yes, McDaniels should have taken that Colts job where the owner is such a media whore he’s invited the cameras in for an in-season “Hard Knocks”. The same GM /owner combo that sat on a large amount of cap space rather than spend it to improve a competitive team leaving them without a LT and Carson Wentz and Jacob Eason at QB.

Or the Philly job with the preening media lackey GM who fired his SB winning coach bending to media pressure after that coach threw the last game of the year for a better draft pick as you know he was told to do.

Yep, Josh McDaniels made the wrong decision passing on those jobs to get paid like a HC while only having the responsibilities of being an OC and winning a 6th SB ring to boot.

This is what it’s come to? Winning by 19 on the road with a rookie QB is not good enough it seems. Wow!

Yeah their D-line is soft. I miss those stout 3-4 lines in the early years. They really have been cutting and pasting since.

This! Some of the runs in the 4th quarter were simply Bill saying "here's 5 yards if you want it without stopping the clock."

Between the kickoff out-of-bounds and the good returns by Berrios that was a battle the Jets definitely won.
Lots of things to clean up and still won. Offense can’t finish drives.
folk was a beast again. When did he get so clutch at longer FG attempts?? Love it

gotta beat the saints next week

What stale play calling? They were winning. He burned the clock. Why take risks? It was smart football.
He also made huge changes in the offense to fit Newton, though Newton was already too far gone for it to be of enough help last year.

But most fan bases blame the O.C. for pretty much everything, so it is what it is.

McD's stint in St. Louis was worse. They were 32nd (dead last) in pts and 31st in yardage the one year he was there. Granted those Sam Bradford offenses in St. Louis weren't great. They were 26th in pts the year before McD took over and 25th the year after he left so they weren't really lightning it up without him. But McD made it worse not better.
